Frederick Miles from Oxford to Australia in 1852

Hi, I am looking for any information on my Great Great Grandfather, Frederick John Miles, a Coach Painter who came to Melbourne (then Adelaide) in 1852/3.

Frederick was born around 1830 in London, his father was William Henry Miles. He may also have had a brother Alfred Robert Miles who came to Adelaide in 1845, but not 100% sure.

I originally thought that Frederick came out to Australia on the ship Arundel, however the ages don't match.

Appreciate any assistance on how to connect my Frederick Miles with the home country and learn how he came to Australia. I have quite a lot of info on the Australian branch if this is of help to anyone.

Thks

Greg

I believe that I may be related to Ernest Edward Miles.
My great grandfather was called Ernest Edward as was was his son, my granddad. We've been trying to trace family in Oz as my father cant remember meeting them.
I know both grandfathers served in the Royal Navy, Ernest the older moving to Oz during his time serving and staying on afterwards.
My grandad Ernest jr was known as Ted and married Milly after WW2, living in Stoke and ending their days in Northwich Chester.
I know from old letters that we are likely related to Thelma and Jim Lambie who lived in Boondall Brisbane in 1970's

HI,

Im trying to trace a Leslie F. Miles born in 1927, Abingdon to Lavinia Jane Lay and Frank G Miles. Circa 1933/34 Leslie and his siblings (Percy, Edith, Sarah, Mary and Thomas) were scattered throughout England in childrens homes due to the death of their parents.

I have been unable to trace any further information on Leslie. I do know that my grandfather (Percy) made contact with Leslie in the late 70s/ early 80's and that he was living around the Thornton Clevelys area and had/was serving in the Navy.

If anyone has any further information such as if he was ever married/had children or if he is still alive i would be very grateful.

Thanks
Sarah

Re: Miles/Reed Ohio

I have found some information for you, but perhaps you may already have this:

Bessie also went by Elizabeth. In the 1900 Federal census she was the step daughter of Walter F. Rodney. Her mother apparently remarried, and then again found herself widowed around 1920. Her mother Agnes died in 1939. The informant on her death record is Mrs. E. O. Reed. Here is the record:

AGNES BUSHILL RODNEY:
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-1951-21323-318-77?c...

E. O. may stand for something …Anyway, the 1920 Federal census for Butler County, Ohio, shows that they had a child named Miles born about 1915. Also, the 1930 Federal census shows a Myles, parents Ed and Bessie Reed, living in Zanesville, Muskingum, Ohio. Social Security Death Index shows a Ed Reed died 1966, in Butler Co., Ohio.

I hope some or any of this information helps,

Paula
P.S. I posted this information on the Ohio Genealogy Forem, as well. :)

Fred Robert Miles of DE, possibly MD?

Checking to see if anyone might know about my great-grandfather Fred R. Miles- he was born around the turn of the 20th century, and I was told he had family in MD but that he was not raised by his parents. His youngest daughter is still alive but knows very little about him, other than the fact that he celebrated his birthday near hers (October 4) and supposedly had spent some time in MD. His death certificate says that he was born in 1904 and his father was also Fred Robert Miles. Does anyone have anything at all that might help me locate him? I do know he married my great-grandmother, Anna Marie Ryan, in Elkton, MD and he claims his birthday was in 1899. I have checked DE Public Archives for a birth record- there is none. I cannot find anything in the Miles family of MD book... the closest I can find is a Fred William Bedwell Miles whose parents died when he was a child, but his birthday is August 30, 1893. I can't make sense of the birthday enough to justify him, although this Fred seems to disappear where my Fred picks up in the census. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

I am searching for information on the parents and family of Bessie T Miles. Bessie was born ca 1892 in Ohio and died 15 Sept 1958 in Middletown Buter Co Ohio. She married Eo Reed. Yes his name is Eo spelled that way. Eo was born 17 May 1890 and died 7 Jan 1966 both in Middletown Buter Co Ohio. I do not have a specific marriage date I believe it was in Ohio in 1913. Their only child (Miles) was born 15 Jun 1914 in Middletown so I believe they were married before then. Bessie and Eo are my great aunt and uncle

Thank you so very much in advance.

Looking for direct fem. desc. of Evan or Jesse Miles (late 1770s/1780s)

We're looking for a direct female-line descendent of Sarah/Sally, wife of James Christie. Sarah 1762-1844.

Two of their daughters married a MILES:
Mary Christie (1782-1833) married Evan Miles (b. 1778)
Sarah Janette Christie (1789-1881) married Jesse Miles (b. 1789)

The line MUST go from her to daughter, to the daughter' dau, etc.

Myself, and three other descendents of Sarah and James Christie, are interested in doing a Mt-DNA test via Family Tree DNA (FTDNA.com). WE WILL PAY THE TESTING FEES. It involves brushing the inside of one's cheek with a special brush/kit from FTDNA.

The documented line must be ONLY mother to dau. so please double check the line by looking at it from both directions, i.e. from Sarah down to the present and then from the present up to Sarah.

We can test a male but only if it's his mother who is in the direct line (not his grandmother).

We admit to being insatiably curious - we want to see if there's an validity to the persistent family story that Sarah was the daughter of an Indian Chief; we'd like to see if we match with anyone who can actually prove that Sarah's name was Lemon/Lemmon, and we'd like to find out where Sarah sits on the World's Haplotree and what the ancient migration was of her direct female line.

In your reply please put the names of those in your direct line but leave out the names of those who are living (just put in the relationship).

I will post a reply via this board.

Surnames of Sarah's daughters: Dunn, Lewis, Miles, Penn?

Thank you.
