Karen....we don't have a George on our side of the family. "Our" Lyman's dad was Raymond. As we've done this research, we've been surpirsed as to how many Lyman Millards there have been over the years. "Our" Lyman and his dad were raised in Canada. I did find another Lyman in VA, and possibly one in OH (of similar vintage) during our research.
Good luck!
Jennifer

Your great grandfather George Millard would be the older brother of my great, great grandfather John J Millard. I'm filling out a family tree and am curious about Lymon's siblings. I've found two girls - Lois Drake and Lois Comfort or maybe that's Louise. do you have any information on them. Also have a photo of Mary Eva Millard - I believe she died as a toddler, but don't know which of the brothers children she was.

Also the brothers, George, Franklin, John Jay had a sister Emily - I can't find information on her either. Also assuming she and John J's twin Seth, died young.

Appreciate any help you can give.

Thanks,
Karen

Hi,
I've found another reference to this family on a UK genealogy site. The person who posted details of Samuel Millard and his son Harrison also said that they have reason to believe that Samuel came from Bedfordshire, England. Does anyone have any proof of this?
I ask because I have a Samuel Millard b.1790 in Maulden, Bedfordshire who seems to have vanished after his baptism. There are no other records relating to his marriage, illegitimate children, burial or any appearance in court of gaol records.

I'm looking for the family of Mary Millard (Millward , Milward) born abt 1805. She was married to Edward Holland,,born abt 1801; marriage St Mary's Handsworth Staffordshire. Edwd Holland , pistol maker, Mary and Children were living in Virgins End, W Brom , in 1841. There were Millward individuals on the same page and I have been looking into the possibility that these are Mary's family. Ann Millward, born abt 1775, a widow may be Mary's mother. Thomas Millward born 1826 nail caster with Jane and children Thomas and John could be connected too.
The previous posts suggest that I could be correct in my assumptions. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Lu

I'd say your guess about Martin is a good one. That was the time of the civil war. I would think he would be a union soldier and I think there are web sites where you might be able to confirm that.
The Millards seemed to stick together wherever they went so where you found one you found several more.
Dora

Thanks for the reply. The James I'm interested in, is buried at Fairfield Cemetery in Lake Zurich IL. James Millard (husband) buried in 1854, Amanda (wife) buried in 1901, Martin W buried in 1863, Jas. (co. R 96th IL INF) no date and James Millard buried in 1913. This is how the markers read. There is also a large "millard" family monument. Hope this helps someone looking for the family. I'm trying to find out if Martin was in the civil war. He was only 24 when he died in 1863. Thanks for your information. Carol

John, I don't know if you are still out there (or if you are still alive), but you and I are clearly related in some way - my father's family is from Bloomsburg and my paternal grandfather's maternal grandmother's (my great-great grandmother's) maiden name was Shoemaker. On top of all of that, my father (and for that matter, my paternal grandfather) also grew up a block from the Bloomsburg Fairgrounds on Railroad Street. Based on what you said, I'm guessing your grandmother was a sister-in-law to my great-grandparents and an aunt to my paternal grandfather.

Some information to determine our relationship:

*Father: Carl L Millard Jr (called Junior by his family), born 1942

*Paternal grandfather: Carl L Millard Sr, 1917-1991

*Father's paternal grandparents: Jeremiah L Millard (1889-1953) and Mae (Strausser) Millard (1896-1982)

*Paternal grandfather's maternal grandparents: Daniel E. Strausser (1866-1950) and Lavina (Shoemaker) Strausser (1875-1949)

Priscilla, I have finished my Millard family history. James and Welthy must have divorced after 1806 (when Rufus was born). I can't find the divorce, but he married Asenath Johnson in Hubbardston, Worcester, Mass in 1814. They then lived in Stamford where Johnson and Franklin were born. Asenath died in Wauconda about 3 years before James did. He lived with Johnson until his death in 1850. James was Baptist and apparently Baptists back then did not divorce and remarry because it was pretty hush hush. My subscription to Ancestry.com has expired and I'm not going to renew it for awhile. If I do, it will be to look on the other side of the ocean. Right now I'm just going to let it rest for awhile. Dora zimmerlady@gmail.com

I got it from the cooper turner tingey family tree.
Apparently (hopefully I'm right) Martha married Henry R. Herron and they were my grgrandmother's parents. Look for Eliza E.
It's been a long time since we corresponded about the Millards. I finally put the last piece of the puzzle together. James was married to Welthy Clark and they had 4 children and then divorced after 1806. In 1814 he married Asenath Johnson in Hubbardston, Mass; they lived in Stamford, VT and had 2 boys, Johnson and Franklin (my grgr). Then they moved to Wauconda, Lake, Ill where they died.
You'll have to look at my Britton/Millard tree since I corrected it and I also posted some comments. Have you found everybody you was looking for? I've been working very hard on this for six months so I may have found something you need. Dora

Thanks for leaving your posting, but I don't see any link. My great grandfather's cousin Charles Lynn Sharman was born early in 1851. At the time of the 1871 census he was living in Finchley with his grandfather John Lynn. In the autumn of 1873 Charles married Fanny Millard, who was almost nine years his senior and came from a Bedfordshire farming family. By 1881 Charles had turned to agriculture himself and was a dairy farmer in Finchley, which would have been a far more rural place than the suburb of Greater London that it is now. His first two children, Alice Jane and Fanny Millard were born in 1874 and 1879 respectively. There may have been other children. Charles’s subsequent life events are uncertain, but sometime in the next twenty years he emigrated to Australia where he became a railwayman. By 1903 he was a stationmaster living at Hawthorne near Melbourne, Victoria. With him were Fanny and their daughter Alice Jane. After Charles’s retirement (sometime between 1903 and 1914) they moved first to Canterbury and then to Camberwell, both now adjacent suburbs of Melbourne. Fanny died in the early 1920s, and Charles died in September 1941 aged 90. Alice Jane carried on living in Victoria until at least 1949.

Place names in the information I have are Stroud, Norwood Cemetery, Nailsworth Chapple, West Hampton, Rodborough, Cherkenwell, St. Mary Newington, St. Peter's Wulwarton, and Chipstead, Surrey England. We are somehow connected to Thomas Millard and Mary Hambidge Millard born in 1777 and 1779 respectively

Gary's mother was Hazel Millard, Hazel's father was Charles Edwin Millard, and Charles's father was Walter William Millard (b 1932).

I would very much like to find out who Walter William's wife was.
Thanks for answering. I am semi-seriously considering doing a DNA test of the Millards. I understand one has been started and I have a male cousin who I think would do it. I'll have to think about it and get more info. I don't really know very much about the procedure or exactly what they would find.
Lori Shepherd, the City Clerk in Stamford has some records that might be helpful to you. Her # is 802-694-1361. Also, Betty Vadmias at 802-694-1486 has quite a few church records that may help. They are both very willing.
Dora

They couldn't find a photo of the Pratt house in Stamford though....and of course, my Ebenezer's wives (Lydia and Sarah/Sally (Aldrich) Pratt burials have never been found nor of his oldest daughter, Prudence (Pratt) Harris which I think is really strange.

I sure hope you can get some answers about James Millard.

About the only thing I found out that I didn't know before was how difficult the state of Vermont is. Instead of having a central courthouse where they keep all the records each little town kept their own records. I did go to the city clerk in Stamford but she didn't have much that I didn't already have on Ancestry.com. I did see the Millard cemetery and James Millard's house. The lady that lives there now is going to look to see if they have an abstract. If they do then a divorce would be in it. Tyler at the museum in Bennington was as helpful as he could be but he's the one that told me about Vermont's strange record keeping. The Probate clerk is sending me some documents from Stephen C. Millard's estate. I'll look them over when they come and see if it tells me anything.
Thanks for your interest.
Dora

Lindall Jones married Mary Bigelow White in NY. A history of the Hudson valley says they had a daughter Amanda Jones who married Franklin Millard (the one I'm looking for). After that history she is never mentioned again as being one of their children. In 1843 Amanda and Franklin Millard lost a little boy who was 3 years old, burid in village Cemetery in Stamford, VT. Does any of this sound familiar?
Dora

In corresponding with the Oberlin College Archives in Oberlin, Ohio, the archivist sent a photocopy of relevant pages 9-12, since I was mainly interested in Jane Lawson Millard's ancestry, her husband Joseph Davenport Millard, and their descendants. So, if anyone has this Joseph Millard in their tree, they might want to contact Oberlin.
I have J.D. as born 25 Jan 1826 in Adams Township, Washington County, Ohio, a son of Joseph Tillinghast Millard and Lavina Warren. J.D. dies 1 Aug 1900 in Pleasanton, Michigan. The earlier genealogy pages apparently go back to 1700.

I am also looking for a William Millard, who very likely could have lived in either Tarrytown or Coperstown, New York about this time.
My ggg-grandfather, Elias Bedford was the son of Daniel Bedford and Milicent Flagler, both their families lived in Dutchess County. Daniel and Milicent raised their family in towns along the Mohawk River.
I believe Elias Bedford married Olive Millard, the daughter of William Millard. In at least 10 years of research on this family, I have found no information on these people.
Elias and Olive, had a son, Moses Bedford born in Boone County, Kentucky in 1819. Olive either died in childbirth or shortly thereafter. Elias remarried in 1824.

I have been looking for information on a William Millard. I don't know if it's the same person or not. He would have been around 18 at the time your letter was written. He was a Reverand and lived in a few different area's before settling in Lewis County, NY. I do believe he was born in Saratoga County, but I have found very little information. I know it's been a few years since you posted this..have you gotten any other responses? The William Millard I'm looking for was my third great-grandfather.
