I have learned that Carmela Milo was born in Angri, Salerno, Italy; was married to Antonio Miranda in Torre Annunziata, Napoli, Italy; and lived in Torre Annunziata after her marriage. As of now, I assume her siblings were also born where she was.

There was another sister, Raffaela, who did not come to the US. She married Francesco Russo and was a widow living in Torre Annunziata at the time of her death in 1897.

Helen

Hi.

I think your ancestor Milo/Millot is either a brother or a cousin of my ancestor. Our branch came from France to The Netherlands, being persecuted as Huguenots. The names in the family are identical to the ones appearing in my tree.

If you want I can give you information on the French Millot's.
Contact me at milo.skye@gmail.com

Regards, Skye Milo

Harvey Milo was my Dad's older brother. Harvey was born in Milwaukee, WI. I have not much information on his real father or the 2nd or 3rd husband his mother married. And he took them name, Trinkle than Milo (if was short for a long Italian name. Can provide more information, most of the information is located in Wisconsin. They did not move to Chicago until about 1927 according to my Dad. There were 7 children in the family. Check the 1930 census for Chicago, Il they lived on Aberdeen. The 7th child was not born yet. I have a lot more information if this a match.

Dunno, might be a connection, but my Grandfather was George Trefren, the son of Harvey Trefren who married Harriet Gour the daughter of Joseph Gour and Cordelia Donefier a.k.a. Dompierre, we are all from Lyndonville and St Johnsbury Vermont. I am not 100% sure of this but according to a birth certificate, fo Harriet Gour born in So. Royalton,Vermont in 1880, Joseph Gour indicated he was from Trois Riveres, Quebec. We know that the two Canadians:Cordelia & Joseph George Gour were Abenaki.Dunno if this helps you in anyway? My Mother is Sandra Carole Trefren? Coincidence?Maybe?

My Great Grandfather Gennaro Milo was from Nola, Campania, Italy. It so happens that during Roman times Titus Annius Milo was governor of Campania. I was told that the name is from the Greek. As Naples was a greek settlement before Roman times Family Tradition holds that the Milo's have been in that area since before Roman times.

Regards
Gennaro Milo

Hi sorry for the huge delay in the response!
My name is Francisco José Dell’Anno, I’ m Matias ‘s father, with who you have already communicate. First thing first I want to tell you we are relative. Our history in Argentine starts with my grandfather Nicolas Miloslavich, who was born in Dubvronic and came to Argentine about 1870 when he was 16 years old. He came because his parents had died and he decided to look for adventure. Actually he intended to reach Paraguay to meet a cousin of his father´s who had become a leiftenant of the Paraguayan army. The ship that brought him arrived in Buenos Aires, Argentina, as Paraguay has not got a deep water harbour, so he had to go across many Argentine provinces (more than 1000 Km). When he arrived at Concepcion del Uruguay in the Entre Rios Province, Argentina, he decided to establish there and found a job as assistant in a drugstore. There he discovered some herbs with which he started to prepared a beverage he called “Lucera” and started an important enterprise. My grandfather Nicolás had 7 children, all already dead, the two eldest, Nicolas and Rodolfo from a first marriage. After the death of her first wife he married my grandmother, with who he had 5 childer, María Elena, María Amalia (my mother), Antonio, María Deolinda and Carlos. My grandfather invited his nephew Mateo to come and work at his enterprise. Mateo came to Concepcion del Uruguay from Croacia in the early 1900, he married and had four children, 3 girls and a boy (Omar), who you referred to. Only two of them, Aurora and Omar, are still alive. We see them from time to time when we go to Concepcion del Uruguay as we live in Buenos Aires.
I am looking forward to hear from you and would like to know where you live presently and which is your nationality.
Hi Carole.

Better late then never...when researching the board, I came across some queries regarding the origin of the name Milo. My grandfather, a Milo, discovered that the name originally came from the island Melos, otherwise known as Milo. It is a Greek island, the very same where the statue of the Venus de Milo was discovered (hence the name).
Back in Roman times, there was a senator called Titus Annius Milo, who once was defended by the famous Cicero. The resulting speech was named Pro Milone, and is still referred to in modern legal history.
When the Hugenotes where prosecuted in France, many families went to either the Netherlands via Belgium, or England. Some kept their original name, others had changed it to the French equivalent, Millot. The name can be found from South America and North America to Eastern Europe and Australia. They sure did like to get around, those Milo's!

Hope this has helped you a little.

Warm regards,

Saskia Steinhorst

Hi Saskia,

Thanks very much for that info., it has been a while since I did any research on Milo as I had no replies until now! I am at Uni now and so don't have much time anymore, though I am studying Medieval History which is proving very useful. Strangely, my last essay was about the French civil wars in which the Huguenots were persecuted. I hope to trace back on Milo one day!

Thanks again,
Carole

Cousins!!??

Hello Matias!!!

I think that we are maybe cousins!!
My grandfather uncle was Niko (Nicolas born 1893) that left Dubrovnik with his brother Mato (born 1889) to Latin America to find their uncle also Nicolas (called Gizda born 1858). They come from Miloslavic family that have family nickname KISO. That nickname my family still has. Nicolas (uncle, called Gizda) married the Italian girl called Katarina, and his nephews, two brothers, Mato and Nicolas I think also married Italian girls (sisters, maybe?).
I know for certain that they lived in Concepción del Uruguay, Entre Rios. Son of Nicolas (younger) or Mato, I am not certain whose, is still living in Concepción del Uruguay and his name is Omar. He has about 80 years.
Also, in support of this story goes fact that Nicolas (younger) and Matos mother was Marija, and your grandmother was maybe named after her.
I am researching Miloslavic family genealogy for many years now, and I don’t know that anybody of Miloslavic except Miloslavic KISO lived in Concepción del Uruguay. And if this story is true Andres Lecuanda is not your (or mine) nearer cousin! His relatives are coming from Miloslavic family with nickname Chuban (not related with Cuba)! They are our relatives in ten or so knee.
I have www.miloslavic.com in order to connect all Miloslavic and its relatives in the world. It is still on Croatian language, but in preparation is on English, and Spanish.
Also, write to me and give me some information that we could confirm or reject this story.
Based on your information, I will easily find if the story is true (or find your family ancestors if not) in my growing family archive.

Best regards,
Hope to hear you soon,
Marko Miloslavic, Kiso
Hi, My grand mother was María Amalia Miloslavich, his father, Nicolas came from Duvrovnik to find some relatives, as the story told they were in Paraguay, but since he was only 15 years old and he didn´t understand spanish, he stood in "Concepción del Uruguay" that soundes similar to him. Concepción is a small city in Entre Rios, Argentina. He stood there and build a factory on the place, he had several children one of them is my Grand mother María Amalia, some of the names are: Nicolas, Carlos, Rodolfo and I don't remember the other names, but I can find out.
I don't know about any of them leaving Argentina and going to Mexico, but the story seams to be very similar to the one I know, so it is not impossible that your grand father were one of my gandmother brothers.
If you have mor information it would be great to check it and find out. I'll try to find myself some information here.

Dear Saskia,
Wow, the information you posted on Millot's of France fleeing to the Netherlands and changing the surname to Milo is fascinating! I have tried to search out my family roots from the New England States back into PQ of Canada under the spelling of Milo with no such luck, nor am I having any luck under Milot or it's various spellings for my particular line, even though I know they came to Canada from Europe at some point before eventually crossing over into Vermont. Did the Milo's of Netherland then make their way to Canada at some point, changing their name back to Millot? Please E-mail me at milomorgan57@cs.com. I appreciate your help and feedback alot. Thanks!
Carol

Hi
I am looking for any one who may have information on the Malo's of Canada who migrated to Vermont, and then became known as Milo's. I am partriculary interested in the children born to and/ or any ancestors of Theophile Maleau/Malo and Marie Plouffe. They lived in Franklin, VT. as well as Swanton and the surrounding area, as well as further south in VT., NH., MA. and CT. Their children were born between 1844-1868.Some of their children were named Salina, psossibly George, Marie Esther, Helena, Celina, Charles, John, Jr., and Marie.
Theophile Malo later became known as John Milo in the Civil War and never went back to the surname Malo as far as I know. Marie Plouffe was also known as Maria Plouff and Mary Ploof.
You can contact me at:
milomorgan57@cs.com
