Hello. My name is Mark Mizal. I'm looking for any family tree information or just information on the Mina Family in the Philippines. I had heard that maybe four or five generations back there were three brothers in the Mina family that had a feud, and one of the brothers left and changed his last name to Mizal.

If anyone has a Mina Family tree, or any information on the Mina family history, I would greatly appreciate it if you send it my way to markmizal@yahoo.com.

His father's name was Vinancio Mina and his mother was Maura Mico Mina. He was born in Urdaneta and has told me that he has many many relatives in Villasis. I hope I can see a history of the Mina Family tree.
Thank you,
Elizabeth

Re: Mina Family in the Philippines
Dear Sirs,

My name is Raquel Serafica Mina, daughter of the late Salvador Casia Mina, Sr., who was born in Tagudin, Ilocos Sur, and Consuelo Serafica Mina. My late dad was half Chinese mestizo, about 6 foot tall and very fair. My father's surname used to be Tan and I think because the Spaniards hated the Chinese during those times, they changed it to Mina (taken from their relatives). I have been longing to search my family tree because I heard from my niece, Cerise Anne Mina, only daughter of my brother, Salvador Serafica Mina Jr. and Marvilina Mina, that we are related to Don Salvador Mina and Josephine Bracken. She has also made a research on this along with the family tree but due to the typhoon Ondoy, her papers got washed away. Our dad did not tell us about his family tree and relatives when he was alive but his name was engraved when he gave the picture of Josephine Bracken in Fort Santiago. I would also like to go to the fort to see it for myself during my next visit to Manila. My dad was basically very very quiet and conservative but a strict disciplinarian. He worked previously as dean of discipline at the Ateneo de Manila during his time and his English is excellent (as we have read in some of his letters). Our oldest sister's name is Natividad Mina Ong and our youngest sister's name is Esperanza Mina Estunido. I would appreciate it very much if anyone could email me a copy of the family tree, if available or get in touch with me by emal (raquelmina@yahoo.com).

Thank you and awaiting your reply.

With best regards.

Raquel Serafica Mina

P.S. Our dad was an adopted son of Tuao, Cagayan and all
of us Minas presently live in San Mateo, Rizal (except me who is based in Hong Kong).

Hello, I'm new to this thread but it gave me an idea to locate persons carrying the surname "Mina" born 1975 to present. My roots are from Pangasinan, Philippines. I might get important clues where my stepbrothers or stepsisters are. This link might help. Coz I want to meet them personally whenever and wherever possible. Kindly email me at haneries@yahoo.com. I would appreciate a lot. For some information, My grandfather's name is Federico Alda Mina, Sr., born in Pangasinan in 1912-1915. Thank you.

Re: Mina Family in the Philippines

Hello all,

I'm the father of Pascale Mina, one of the previous posters. My father, Celestino Mina III, showed me a copy of the geneaolgy book compiled by Wexler Mina. Our side of the family tree traces back to Tagudin, Ilocos Sur, where my grandfather, Nicolas Mina, was born. Nicolas later emigrated to Pangasinan (Asingan, to be exact) where he married into the Ignacio family.

Pangasinan has harbored many of the itinerant Luzon Minas since the clan's mini-diaspora. The non-Luzon, non-Ilocano branch can now be found in Cebu and Mindanao (I forget which province).

Two historical tidbits. One of our ancestors plotted with his confreres the assassination of some Spanish administrators at the close of the Spanish centuries. You can read about it in "Ilocano Responses to American Aggression 1900-1901," a book by the late William Henry Scott (New Day Publishers).

Josephine Bracken's daughter by her second husband (a Chinese Cebuano who adopted the surname "Abad") married a Mina from Sampaloc, Manila. One of the Minas from this branch wrote a slim book on Jose Rizal's alleged recantation of his Masonic heritage. In this book, the author (Salvador "Badong" Mina, my grandfather's second cousin) mentioned the Bracken-Mina connection. Only a few copies were printed, one of which was found quite by accident by my wife in a book sale. Unfortunately, that copy was destroyed by termites. I remember, though, mentioning the book to Wexler Mina when he visited the house.

Trivia. There's a Mina of some international fame, but I don't think she's related, given that "Foch" (if it proves true) is the real name of the Minas. Her name's Denise Mina, a well-known, awarded British author of psychological suspense novels. There's also that famous chef, Michael Mina. But he's not Filipino.

Cheers.

The copy that I have came from the great Mr Wexler & Conrad Mina. They were the ones who started it all.

According to them, Mina came from 2 possible clans, Rosendo & gabriel mina. Rosendo is an ex-priest and possibly the one who has the name of Fr. Foch, and just changed his name to Mina after marrying a Filipina Maria Manlapuz. they are from Tagudin Ilocos Sur. The other is Gabriel Mina.

My father came from Asingan, pangasinan but his father camne from tagudin, Ilocos Sur.

Hello, am Pascale Mina from the Philippines. I'm the granddaughter of Celestino Mina. So, was your source for the family tree the little red handbook? We might have the same copy.

I want to ask if Mina really is our actual surname. My father once mentioned to me that our real surname was "Foch" or "Faulk" or something similar to those, my memory is foggy.

Hi Joseph! I really don't know much about my family tree. I am a Mina and I know as much as we're originally from some Ilocos, Philippines. My dad's family can be found in Baguio City now. His middle name is Bautista. And that's as far as I know.
We have a family reunion coming up this December in Baguio. I'd really like to see what you've got. I'd appreciate anything... maybe someone in my family may know who you have on your tree.
