... and then a thought hit me. Died in WW1 therefore possibly on a memorial.

See http://www.pembrokeshire-war-memorial.co.uk/page70.htm

Text

William Henry Miners, Skipper, 101SA, Royal Naval Reserve. William was the Husband of Caroline Miners, of 2, Marble Hall, Milford Haven. He served in the Merchant Fleet, but was attached to the Royal Naval Reserve, as Skipper aboard HM Trawler Norman II, which was taken over by the Admiralty in 1915 for use as a Minesweeper. William died on 18 April 1918. It is unknown if it was as a result of active service, and is buried at Ford Park Cemetery, Devon. He was 35 years of age.

So the answer is Ford Park Cemetery, Devon.

Chris

If I have my fact right, William Henry would be my 6th cousin 3x removed.

Reasoning - Probate mentioning Caroline nee Edwards 1918 and place of death (Stonehouse). Death record gives age as 36 = 1882. I can only find one Cornwall entry for William Henry Miners of Truro 1882 who is in my records.

I have a web page for him from where you should be able to trace the Miners back.

http://www.camichaelfh.ukfamilies.com/BillFH4/ind9750.html

Chris

Hello, thanks for getting in touch with me re the miners family. I haven't done much on the family tree lately but do plan on restarting again soon. My husbands grandfather William Henry Miners had come to Pembrokeshire in the early 1900's and we don't seem to know much on his life in cornwall. Although he had been in the Navy and died in 1918. We believe he was buried in yeovil, that is all we know except he had four children in milford haven with Caroline . Would be grateful on any information please . Thanks jayne Miners .

William Miners 1535

I've managed to trace my family back to a William Miners (various spellings - Wyllum Meyners, Mynors) born approx 1535. Generations after him include Dennesel (1561), William (1586), JOhn (1629)and Samuel (1680). I am unable to find any information prior to William but am working on the theory that he is descended from Sir Robert de Meyners (approx 1200)whose other descendants changed the surname to Mengues and then Menzies. If anybody has any more information on how I could prove or disprove this theory it would be much appreciated.
I can confirm that she married a Peter BARBERY on 03/01/1758 in St Austell but thats about it. Does anyone have Hannah in their trees from anywhere around that area that fits with this? LDS is listing a place name Mariaminia (I'm highly skeptical about that though!).

Any help / insights gratefully accepted.

Regards
Neil

Here is the information I have in my system.

Thomas Miners b: 1828 m: Mary Ann is the son of Thomas Miners and Mary Husband. He and one of his brothers (Samuel) emigrated to Pennsylvania. Samuel became a US citizen in 1864. I have no record on Thomas' citizenship yet.

Thomas John Miners b: 1859 m: Elizabeth Andrew Michell in 1884 in Cornwall. He is shown in Marazion in 1891 census.........He was the son of John Miners & Jane Jollife.......

There is a Marazion researcher if I can find his email address. Two brothers, David & Anthony a few years ago.....I will try to find it. Meanwhile, Chris Michael may be able to provide you with more information.

Ah, Found her in the 1851 census but she and her family are not in my Family Historian database (yet!). I strongly suspect there is a link with the other Miners families in the area (Probus is 2 miles due south of Ladock where many of my Miners resided) but I guess to prove this will necessitate a search through some Parish Records. I can give you info on the censuses with your Mary Ann (if you don't have it), and would be interested if you can find your William's parents.
All the best
Chris Michael, the ggrandson of a different Mary Ann Miners!

Sorry, I'm a bit confused here. Is the Mary Miners in qustion the child of William and Martha (whom I have no records of) or Zacheus and Betsy (which I might have under Zachariah and Elizabeth Tippett)?
If its the last option (Z 1801-1888, E 1811 >?) then I can provide some information, both up and down from stuff originally researched by Joan Macaw and heavily added to by people like Marilyn. All the best. Chris

Hi Marilyn, hi all.

I'm still looking at my Miners ancestry (fyi my great grandmother was Mary Ann Miners (b1865, Camborne)) and have been merrily using my ancestry.co.uk membership to plough through as many census records as possible! So if anyone wants me to share, email.

Most of my research has been around the Ladock Miners and I wouldn't mind people's considered opinion on Jane Miners b1827 Ladock, daughter of Samuel (b1782) and Elizabeth Harvey. I seem to have her married to Thomas Endean (from Chris Johnson's tree and possibly Joan Macaw's) and on the 1851 census with him - but also on it living with her father, unmarried. I'm inclined to believe the latter but I can't find another Jane Miners that age.

Another thing I'd like to know concerns the Tregony Miners. Are they related to the Ladock ones? I have a James Miners b 1855 in Tregony who married a Catherine May b1849 daughter of Mary Ann Michael and Charles May (both c1817). Would love to connect him to the Ladock lot (its only a few miles btw).

All the best to all

Chris

MINERS Family of Cornwall, England; Canada, Australia & S. Africa

Is anyone still devoting research time to the MINERS family of Cornwall? My great grandfather George Miners b: 1826 and his brother William b: 1821 both in Ladock, Cornwall emigrated to Canada 1849 - 1852..........George first and then William. George is believed to have come either with or just after his Cousin Josiah Miners and his family, along with another cousin who stayed at Bruce Mines.............Josiah and George both emigrated and lived in South Oxford Co., Ontario and William and his family pretty much stayed in the Usbridge, Ontario area...........Huron Co., I believe. Some of that family went out west........About the same time that George, William & Josiah left England, another 2nd cousin, Thomas Miners left for Australia and started a new area of Miners descendants...........and another cousin went to Rhodesia, S.Africa and likewise did the same. In 1860 another couple of second cousins emigrated to Pennsyvlania, (Samuel & Thomas) and built their dynasty there.........

Early on, we have run into many name changes.........like Meynors, Myners, Minors, but in the last 200 years, I have mostly only run across Miners and some Minors.

Anyone interested??
Marilyn Phelps
ljpmap@verizon.net

Terry,

I think our lines join at Joshia's father, William. My line is down from Joshia's older brother George. I've got most of my information from a spreadsheet put together by Joan Miners back in the 80s, plus from Christine Johnson's GEDCOM at http://www.my-ged.com/db/page/johnson7/1723 etc. I'm about halfway through adding the names on her site to Family-Historian.

I've also added some dates etc. from the Cornwall censuses.

The biggest divergence I have, is that my George's youngest son Edwin has been confused with another, meaning the line down to me and mine has been omitted.

I think Ralph, who has posted in here (or maybe Rootsweb) is from Joshia's line.

Do you want a gedcom of my bits?

Chris

Most of the 10 children from the two marriages lived in the Gatton Toowoomba area.

I have a few contacts but several lines missing.

Some info on the Miners (under Mescall) are on my site: http://homepage.eircom.net/~johnbquigley/index.html

John Quigley, Cork, Ireland
