Well, you are my second cousin. My grandmother was Eva "Evie" (Harger) Lane, and my daddy was your grandmother's favorite person - at least that is what your aunts have told me. They have said there was never a doubt in any of their minds that if their mother could have traded one or all of them for my daddy, she would have. My daddy was Roland Clinton Lane. By the way, Grandma Harger's name was Margaret Ann, but everyone called her Maggie. I have a picture of your mother and some of the rest of the family, including me when I was about 3 years old, sitting on the bookshelf in front of my computer. It was taken at Grandma Harger's house. I'd like to get to know you. My e-mail is fcochran@hiwaay.net Looking forward to hearing from you!

Re: looking for info on the MING name

Hi Our name is a hard one to research. My MING came into NC in the late 1600s or early 1700, and settled in Beauford Co, NC. It was Joseph Ming, his wife, Sarah (?), and three sons; Thomas, Joseph, and Nathaniel. Joseph was a ships master and sailed sloops in the Atlantic and on the James and York Riversin Virginia.

I have never made a tie with the name MING of NC and the name MINGE of VA. Some say there is a tie but cannot give proof. I will admit that I have never researched the name MING in Florida.

Tradition is that my line came from Wales but I have never proved it. My DNA does indicate the United Kingdom.

Being you are starting the long road of researching, I will help all I can. Fire away with your questions. If you are interested in going the DNA route, I can help in that aspect also. Bill Ming
My branch of Ming's came from the German speaking area of Switzerland. When John Ming came over in the 1890's the story is that when he landed in NY he had a brother and they were separated never to see each other again. There are a lot of Ming's in Switzerland. That could give you and area to search.

That was Thomas Cope Ming. He was captured at Vicksburg then swore an oath of allegiance July 4 1863, then went back to Alabama and joined the first alabama infantry. In between military assignments he married Rebecca Ann Bayguets and sired my great grandfather William Henry Ming.
Thomas was on a gun boat on the Yazoo river, he most likely went up the Arkansa River where he setteled after the Civil war. He was a captured a second time in Tennesee and was sent to Camp Douglas near chicago. There he nearly starved to death. 2 of his brothers were killed in the civil war.
T C's father was William Joseph Ming, His mother was Elisabeth Cope. His Grand father was Joseph Ming of North Carolina. Civil war records and pension information for Civil War Vets of Arkansas has a wealth of information.

bdming

My grandmother originated from Lugern, Switzerland. Her name was Elizabeth Ming. She married a English man called Leslie Richardson and moved to South Africa (must have been in the 1920's). I will have to get more info on her full names and birth/death date. Can anyone tell me if there is still any of her family (Ming)alive in Lugern Switzerland? I know she had a nephew called Hans that was living there.

David, thanks for your query. First to clarify the one of the names on your list. It is "Alexander Columbus MING". He went by "A. C. MING". He is buried in Fairland Cemetery, near Marble Falls, Burnet Co., TX. He is the son of my GG Uncle Thomas N. MING. Now about Sally MING, she was not the daughter of James MING (1765) and Ann Beasley (b: Abt. 1770 in NC, d. Dec 1836 in Athens, Limestone Co., AL. You are correct that James MING was the son of Thomas MING and Delilah. May I say this, so far as I know, there is no proof that Delilah was a Felton. I have seen a Felton will in which her name was grafted into the will but there is no proof to back that up. Whee does the "Joseph" come in? My immigrant ancestor was Joseph MING who died in 1701 in NC. His son was Thomas d. Bef. 1768. Married a Sarah. One Thomas' sons was Joseph b. Bef. 1696, d. Bef. 1 Dec 1750 in Chowan Co., NC. Married Rachel Ward. I can supply what proof I have if you need it. Hope this helps. William L. Ming.

I can take you back to Joseph Ming who came into NC before 1702. I have enough to make up a package of hard copies if you will send to me your mailing address. It will be next week. I am leaving for Houston, TX after lunch and will be back late Saturday Afternoon. You and I are distant cousins. Bill
