Susan
Did you find your Charles Minster/Muenster? I have information regarding him related by a Great Uncle, Carl Minster. He spoke of the Charles Muenster families and also the Miller families that came through Canada and then to the USA. Our ancestor was Frederick Muenster married Christine Scheunmann. They came from Sonnenberg Germany to the Blissfield, Lenawee County, Michigan area. Are buried in the Riga, Lenawee County, Michigan cemetery. I visited those grave sites several years ago with my grandmother who passed at 100+ years in 1996.

My maiden name was Minster (an uncommon Jewish name). My Father, Max, was born in 1908 in Ekatarinislav (now Dnepropetrovsk) and his siblings were Pauline, Sam and Lily. His father's name was Tevy Minster. Tevy had 4 or 5 brothers in the wholesale wheat trade. Tevy died at a young age in 1917. My father's family immigrated to Canada in 1922. One or two brothers died in the famine in Russia, the others immigrated to the United States and Israel, I think. I don't know much else. Does this ring a bell?

I'm looking for information on Reinard Minster (b:1892)in either Germany or Pennsylvania. He apparently was an orphan and his brother Frank Minster was adopted. Reinard's parents were also probably from Germany but I don't know where from, or even their names. Reinard married Mary Sunderland (b:1894), she may have gone by Amelia, and they lived in the Philadelphia, Pa area. Frank & Mary/Amelia's children include Reinard Jr, Mamie/Mary, Florence, Joseph, Alberta, William, Paul and Francis who died very young. Please let me know if you have anything that matches this.

I'm looking for information on Reinard Minter & his wife Mary or Amelia Sunderland. Their children were Reinard Jr, Francis, Florence, Joseph F., Alberta, William & Paul. They were all born from 1917-1930. Apparently Reinard Jr & Joseph both passed away in 2003. Joseph was enlisted during WWII and may have been in the Battle of the Bulge. Francis died at a young age as well. I was told Reinard Sr. was of German descent and was orphaned as a child. He had a brother Frank that was adopted and they were reunited later in life. Please let me know if you have anything that matches.

Sorry I took so long to respond. I just recently was able to get more information. Reinard J Minster was born to Reinard and Mary (could also be Amelia) Minster. I found a Census from the 1930's that was confirmed by my family to be correct and is referring to Reinard J Minster as "Reinard Jr". I don't have names for either of his grandparents either. This information was passed to me from a relative. She's referring to Elberta as Aunt Bert.

"Aunt Bert had told me that her mother's name was Amelia Sunderland (not sure of spelling) so I'm not sure why it's listed as Mary. Their mother according to Aunt Bert was American Indian.

I don't know how old their Dad was when he came from Germany but Aunt Bert said that he was orphaned and never adopted; he apparently grew up in the orphanage until he was old enough to work and then was put out on his own. His brother, Frank, was apparently adopted and was reunited with his brother later in life. "
Sorry but I don't have any info on those folks. By 1915 The Minsters that I am aware of were all in Altoona, PA. They were decendents of John Samuel Minster who was born either in 1843 or 1847 (depending on whether you believe the census or the forms that John Samuel filled out for a Civil War pension) in Conestoga Twp., Lancaster County. His father was John Minster (a school teacher in Manor Twp., Lancaster County. John died in 1848. John Samuel Minster's mother was Molly McGirk. No info on her. It is said that John Samuel was raised by the Withers family in Lancaster. There is some speculation that John Samuel had a brother and a sister but I have no information on them or even if they existed.

Any info on Reinard's parents, grandparents, etc.?

I have very limited information on the Minster side of my family but I have a Reinard J. Minster, died in New Jersey around 2004. His wife(ex-wife?) was Ruth Mabel Crane (1920-1996) and she died in the Philadelphia area. Ruth's father was a fireman for the city and it's my understanding Reinard was a car mechanic. I'm still working my way through that side of my family tree but I don't have any information on Reinard's parents.

Hi Don, I hope you check this board still, I think we may have a connection. I have a Harriet Amelia Keese Lambert who married Howard Minster May 10, 1900 in Iowa. Their children were:

Arthur Oswald Minster b. December 19, 1899
Rita Arminda Minster b. January 30, 1904
Edna J Minster b. October 23, 1908

I am descended from one of Harriet's brothers, and am just now trying to get all of the "branches" of my family tree filled in. If we are related, I would love to share information (I have TONS of stuff on the Lamberts). I hope this helps!!

Megan Lambert

George Minster, Cincinnati

My ggg- grandfather, George Minster born about 1822? was from ?? Germany. Married in Cincinnati in 1854, Margret Rack (spelling?) also born about 1822. This info is from their marriage record in Cincinati, Hamilton Co. Ohio. They had three daughters: twins, Margret and Catherine born 1857 and a younger daughter Mena born about 1859. All married eventually. George died about 1878? Does anyone know anything about George or Margret? 1880 census says George was from Saxony originally and Margret was from Hesse-Darmstadt. The daughter Margret was my gg-grandmother.

The name was apparently shortened from the Lithuanian Minsteris. I believe there is still Minster family descendents in So. Africa, though I don't know their surnames. There is a cousin in Canada and another in NY. Perhaps we have a connection.

I know that Dora had two sisters Lena Minster Mendick whom I knew very well and an other sister Anna, who was estranged and lived in New York. She came to Bridgeport, CT to visit once and we went to NY to visit once, but I don't think there was any correspondence between Anna and Lena. There may have been another sister, Hinda, or perhaps Anna Hinda were one and the same.

There must have been at least one brother left in So. Africa, because the last living daughter of Lena's made a trip there with her sibling many years ago and I believe it was her uncle they visited.

I also remember a young couple coming from SA to visit Aunt Lena in the 50's on their way to the Mayo Clinic. Unfortunately I don't remember their name. I'm trying to find someone in the Mendick family that will tell me the name of the family they went to visit.

Sam, My Minster connection is my paternal grandmother. Originally from Lithuania and emigrating to So. Africa. Her name was Dora Minster m. to Samuel Smulowitz also originally from Lithuania. Dora had two sisters. Probably also a brother or perhaps more. I know there are still Minster descendents in So. Africa that I'm trying to trace, but don't know there names or if they are in Johannesburg, where my father and his two sisters were born. I can't seem to find anyone in the family that knows or is willing to give me that information. Is any of this familiar to you?
I will have to see where in Lithuania, but ancestors are Nathan Minster (he was my Great Grandfather for whom I got my middle name). He married Sara Class. They had many kids, including my Grandfather, Samuel (for whom I was named after).

After the Pagom (sp) started killing Jews, Nathan or Nachmen took his village and moved. They walked toward Norway and on the way, people would set up camp, because they were tired of moving. His family made it to Christania (now Oslo), Norway and from there, sailed on the Helig Olav to New York.
