I am searching for ancestors of Elizabeth Minton b. 1819 in Greene County, Ohio who married William Scudder b. 1815 in Ohio. They have 3 children, Mary M., Albert T., and John W. I believe there is a connection to a Fanny Minton who married Obediah Scudder, possibly brothers/cousins married to sisters/cousins? Both families were from Greene County and they both moved to Delaware County, Indiana. According to census records William and Obediah's parents were both from New Jersey, Elizabeth and Fanny's parents were both from Virginia. Elizabeth is my husbands 4 x great grandmother and I haven't been able to trace this line back any farther. Any information you have would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Debbie

This is the only Leroy Minton born in Ohio within the time parameter to Abraham and Lauretta Minton...her surname was Hines or Himes, Covington, Miami County, Ohio. this census shows the sibligs as well.
http://search.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/sse.dll?rank=1&new=1&...

I noticed another thing...Elna and Lee were on the voters regs 1928 on Owensmouth Ave
1930 on 1035 Santee
1932 on 1115 Maple Ave
then for 1934, 36, 38 they were living at
1125 E 69th Street. I would suggest that this is a place that they bought since they stayed there for 8 years min.

Also there is a WWll prisoner, Lee R Minton, of war 25 Jan 1945 to 22 Oct 1945 Privt 1st class Army Infantry 49

There is Le Roy Harold Minton WWI Draft Reg, Chicago Cook County, date of birth 30 March 1897

I stopped scrolling under military on page 33.

I wonder if this is my grandfather. How did you find that. Your amazing. Still no contact from anyone else. I do thank you so much for your time and effort. My grandmother sent her divorce papers to General Delivery, Chatsworth, California. I havent been able to find it in the paper but it was supposed to be published as well. I wonder if when my grandmother applied for her Social Security, she had to put being married to him even though it was brief. They have to know everything about a person right. Maybe that is why he is just gone. thanks so much

thankyou. I did review and write down all the information. I am not sure this could be my grandfather. My mom was born in 1928 and at the time of her birth it says age of father 31. This leroy minton would have been about 48 when my mom was born. Not saying its not. but the numbers are pretty far apart. I am hoping that janeen Howland will get back to me with maybe a little helpful information. I did contact a Leroy minton in 1977 for my mom, called and spoke to him on the phone in Ohio, He insisted it was not him and wishd us good luck on our search. he has since passed away also. Thanks again. Mary

My Grandmother was Pearl Minton, she married LeRoy Minton in 1927. He lived in Los Angeles so that was where they were to make their home. She divorced him in 1928 for abandonment. two or three months after she had my mom. My mom never met him and good old granny refused to discuss him burning all and any information of him. My mom and I started looking 30 years or more ago for him as she had some unexplained medical issues. She passed away in 1981 and I have been looking ever since. elna is just a name of a woman I found living with LeRoy minton. I believe she was his second wife. They had children Beverly Lois Minton and Lee R Minto, both unfortunately deceased. I think they were my mothers (Lilyan) half brother and sister. same dad different mom. On my moms birth cert. It says LeRoy Minton, father. Job/mechanic. age 31 place of birth Ohio. Nothing else. I then found their marriage my grandparents Leroy and Pearl in the society column that says they will make their home in Los Angeles where leroy is employed as a mechanic. In the California voters registration it says in los angeles, California elna and Leroy Minton, employed as a mechanic. no cenus at all. then after 1930 voters list, he is gone and I mean gone. Nothing no death info, no SS info, nothing. Like he just fell off the face of the earth. Unbelieveable. Even the people that help at Utah history center were lost for clues. No Drivers License, no military Registration, no nothing. Ok enough of my ranting and raving. As you can see I am dedicated to finding him just fresh out of Ideas. and I mean fresh out. I thought with elna, his second wife I might have a clue but no such luck. thanks for listening. Mary

I think I would go for the birth cert since the census could have been filled out by someone else who didn't know for sure. Elna's SS# is on her death cert...perhaps there would be info on that and who was the informant? What happened to Lee Jr.?And I would think Ohio since there were a lot of Mintons there.
your so kind. I actually have went to Utah 3 times. I dont even have a date of birth. All I have is a name. apprxiamte age. I have their marriage license and divorce papers and mothers birth cetificate and believe it or not, there is not one piece of information that would help me locate him. My mother died never getting to know her father or possible siblings. I think that Elna was his second wife. But am not sure, have no way to knowing. No ss number, no military reg. of any kind. I mean its like looking for a needle in a haystack. I have nothing on Elna, found her in the voters reg. with Leroy minton living in the same home. It states that he was a mechanic and that is what my grandmother told me was the Leroy was a mechanic in LA. I think its the same guy but dont have a clue where to go now. I have been a member of ancestry forever. constantly looking, finding nothing. He was 31 when my mother was born in 1928. He lived in Los Angeles. He was a mechanic. Census says he was born in California. Birth Cert says he was born in Ohio. who knows. I tell you I wont give up but sure hard to keep trying so hard and coming up emty handed. thanks for your thoughts believe me I have tried them all over and over and over. take care.
Mary, don't give up hope about finding him. DO you belong to Ancestry? I would check military as well...he would have to have registered for WWI as all were required. My father didn't know who his grandfather was either. After he died I decided to do some research and went to the Family History Library and found that he was from Calcutta, his mom born in Paris and what happened to his siblings after they arrived in the USA. Remember he may have used another name...like Roy. Do you have their marriage cert? Elna's death cert? information on her extended family or siblings with children? There are more than one paths to the same goal. My friend had an uncle who went AWOL from the Army draft. I found him in the most unusual way through an oil and gas lease researcher who had found him in Kentucky, married and living under another name with a headstone under his real name with no body in the same cemetery where the rest of his family was buried. You just have to think outside the box! I checked familysearch.org for Minton as well but only the 1st page of Mintons.

I sure could use some help finding Lee R Minton, or sometimes I guess LeeRoy Minton. He was my mothers father, My grandfather. She never met him. she died and I continue her search. All I know is he married Pearl Martin, they were to live in L.A, CA where he was a mechanic. they divorced when she was a baby. She was raised by Bill martin. Received a picture of him once but grandmother burned it. I think he remarried an Elna Hanson. My mom could have had brothers or sisters. I have marriage license and divorce papers and parents birth cert. but no help info on any of it. He was born in the late 1800s. He was a mechanic either airplane or cars. He lived in LA. No census records can be found. Only voter info where he is with Elna Minton, another Minton, Rahley Minton lives on the same street. Please put your thoughts into this cause I have been looking such a long time. I need serious help finding him.

I can't find the family past 1850 Census which shows, John 46, Bridget 36 (possibly and error in her age), Martin 12, Clamt 7, Ellen 6, Catherine 5, and Anne 3.

The 1905 New York Census For LOWVILLE,LEWIS COUNTY shows Merrie Minton age 61 born USA mother-in-law living with Christfor (illegible)Brent age 43, his wife Margaret 40 and daus. Anna M. 17 and Ruth A 10.

I would contact Lewis County for more info on the John and Bridget Minton family since death notices might show other information.

Sorry I could not help more.

JOHN Minton was born in Bertie County about 1755. His father was Joseph Minton and he had 4 brothers whose name were Jesse, Shadrack, Joseph and William. They relocated from Bertie County about 1780 to Nash County. John Minton had 3 siblings and and two of them were named Randal,l $ Valentine. John purchased 100 acres on pine Log Swamp in Nash County next to his father. The 1800 Nash County Census is the last trace I have of John. His brothers Jesse and Shadrack died before 1790.
Best of luck.
Gereald Minton
obit - Ruth MINTON Beresford, 1919 TX - 2011 WA.

Ruth Minton Beresford | not related - for board info

Beresford, Ruth Minton

Ruth Minton Beresford died peacefully after a short illness, on November 9, 2011.
Ruth was born November 5, 1919, to Stella Ruth (Fite) and Joseph Marion Minton, in Houston, Texas, where she spent her early years.
She graduated from what is now Rice University in Houston in 1941, majoring in English, with a biology minor. She then taught fourth grade for a year in Galena Park, Texas, before taking the position of Director of Girl Scouting in Paris, Texas. In 1945 she became the Girl Scout Executive Director in Amarillo, Texas. Though she treasured the memories for the rest of her life, Ruth left her career in Girl Scout administration in 1948, moving to Pasadena, California, with her new husband Robert Beresford. She later acquired a California state teaching credential and began a second very rewarding career teaching Adult Education classes in 1970 to parents of pre-schoolers, through Pasadena City College.
Both Ruth and Bob were very active members of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Pasadena for over 60 years. Following Bob's death in January of 2009, Ruth began a new chapter in her life, moving to be with her son Rex Beresford's family in the parsonage of Boistfort Community Church, Washington. There, Ruth provided her warmth, love, and a broad smile to all who came near. Did I mention the puns? You had to be on your toes, because you really couldn't have a conversation with her without provoking her wry sense of humor. She was truly loved, and is truly missed.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Bob. She is survived by her brother, Joseph Paul (wife, Nancy) Minton, of Potomac Falls, VA; daughter, Robin (Robert Garner) of San Jose, CA; sons Rex (Gayle), of Boistfort, WA, and Richard (Chris) of Bayside, CA, as well as ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Boistfort Community Church Sanctuary Window Fund (contact Rex Beresford at rgberesford@juno.com); the Girl Scouts of America at http://www.girlscouts.org/; or the Alzheimer's Foundation of America at http://www.alzfdn.org/.
Published in Pasadena Star-News from November 19 to November 20, 2011

I'm a direct descendent of John Minturn (Minton/Minthorn), b. 1732, d. 1826, enlisted in Rev War in 1775 in Elizabeth, NJ, who was married to Rebecca Fairchild. Their son John Minturn (Minton/Minthorn), a vet of the War of 1812, married Sarah Leazenby. THEIR son, Thomas Leazenby Minturn (Minton/Minthorn) b. June 18, 1804, d. Nov. 24, 1887. Thomas Leazenby Minturn was born in Hampshire Co., VA, and died November 24, 1887. He married Nancy Herrold on January 16, 1830 in Athens Co., OH (daughter of Christopher Herrold and Martha Cable). THEIR son, Thomas Drake Minturn married Mary Catherine Allen (b. nov. 19, 1834, d. Sept. 13 1874), and I could go on. BUT---I'm actually trying to backtrack from the 1732 John Minturn (Minton), if anybody has any info.

His mother was Sarah Wilson, Vol 122, cert 60593, Vol year 1921. Sarah obviously married a Haney; Floyd Wilson was probably Sarah's father. Don and Mark Haney are the sons of Lawrence R Haney.
I found this on the web:
The farm itself dates back to the late 1800s. It has been passed down through five generations, the latest being Don and Mark. The two brothers were raised on the farm and learned first-hand experience from their late father, previous owner Lawrence Haney.
Many often ask where the name "Appledale" comes from. In the early 1900s, Lawrence's grandfather, Floyd Wilson, ran an apple and corn farm under the name "Cloverdale". However, due to health reasons, he moved to Somerset, and Lawrence and his wife, Oreida, inherited the farm in 1944.

To me I would guess you are related simply because of the name and location in Pulaski County where your Haneys are listed. Have you tried contacting the Haneys who own the farm at this time?
Susan
