Minyard in Oklahoma

I am looking for descendants of Irene and Thelma Logsdon who were born in or around McAlester, Pittsburg Co, OK sometime around 1920-1922. I do not know any married names. Their mother's maiden name was Vada Minyard. I heard that Thelma died in McAlester, OK early or mid 1940's. The mother Vada Minyard Logsdon may have married after the Logsdon marriage. She had two sisters Sadie and Nora. She also had 2 step sisters: Mary & Willie Davis and one step brother, James (Bud) Davis. Vada's mother was Janie James and she had a brother J.B. James, a sister Cora James Doctorman.
If you are related or know any of these people please contact me. I believe that the two girls Irene and Thelma may be my half sisters. They knew my father when they were children. Thanks

I have been told the same story that they where Indian and the family pretty much sticks to that story though I haven't found any proof to the story as of yet. Though I have found that a lot of Indians especially the lighter complexion one tend to say they was white in the census records

I have found some info that might lead me to believe that his grandfather was an Abner Lewis in Gordon County Georgia. Please contact me personally if you are still online. diana

POW/MIA, Korean War, MINYARD

I am searching for the family of a soldier who was killed in the Korea War. When he entered service he gave Memphis, Tennessee as his home of record. His remains were never recovered.

Soldier: JAMES ROBERT MINYARD
Born: March 9, 1919
Date of loss: Jan 2, 1951. MIA

When the Korean War ended the enemy never returned or accounted for over 8,000 of our servicemen. They died in their hands. That was over 50 years ago. Since that time DNA has been perfected and also they are recovering remains in North Korea. Our government is obligated to return those remains to the proper family. DNA samples have been obtained from most of the families of these missing soldiers. For various reasons some families have not been located. The Minyard family is one of those missing.

When the remains are recovered and identified they will be returned to the family for proper burial. I am just an old (76 years) Combat Veteran out of the Korean War and thankful that I did return. I consider this a very noble cause and I hope that you can help in some way to find this family. For more information on the project you may go to http://www.jpac.pacom.mil/. My part in the program is to match up the lost families with the proper agency.

I will be grateful for any assistance in locating this family.

Harold Davis
40th Infantry Division
Korea ’52-‘53
910-791-2333
hgdavis@bellsouth.net
Do you remember where you found the name of the wife of James Minyard, Sr. as being Hannah Sheffield? I have been searching for his wife's name for a long time and this is the first time I've seen anyone mention her name. Have you found the parents of James Minyard, Sr. or Hannah Sheffield? Please look at my research on the Minyard family at the Carroll County, Mississippi website under "Biography & Photos"-->"Pioneer Families of Carroll County Ancestors"-->"Minyard Family". Let me know if you can make any additions or corrections.

If you go to the Carroll County website at www.rootsweb.com and click on "Biography & Photos" then "Pioneer Families of Carroll County Ancestors" then "Minyard Family" you will find the research that I have done on the Minyard family starting with James Minyard, Sr. and tracing his descendants. It is a work in progress and some of the information has been changed and is subject to further changes. However it will give someone researching the Minyard and Case families a good start. If anyone can make any additions or corrections, please let me know.
