I’m looking for information about the parents of William A. “W.A.” THOMAS, 1858-1929 – W.A. THOMAS & Sally MITCHEL

1879 -- married Mary Jane MCCAIN in Attala County, MS.

1880 – living with wife and in-laws, John James MCCAIN and Martha BRUNT McCain, in Attala County, MS. No children, yet. Indicates birthplace as MS, blank for parents.

1881-1894 – They have six children: John James, 1881; George, 1884; Effie, 1886; Ben, 1888; Mattie, 1891; & Drew Wilkins, 1894 – still living in MS. This is from later censuses and family tradition.

1895 – wife Mary Jane dies. Widowed mother-in-law Martha BRUNT McCain lives with them for a while.

1900 – have not found census.

1910 – remarried to Rosa L (1903), living in Carroll County, MS. George, Ben & Drew are still living at home. Indicates birthplaces as:
Self -- AR,
Father’s -- AR,
Mother’s -- MS.

1920 – living in Houston, TX. Indicates birthplaces as:
self – AR,
father’s -- NC,
mother’s -- MS

1929 – dies in Cherokee County, TX. Death certificate (info provided by daughter Effie THOMAS Petty) states:
He was born in MS.
Father – W.A. THOMAS, born in MS.
Mother – Sally MITCHEL, born in AR.

The stated birthplaces are a jumble, with Mississippi and Arkansas trading places and North Carolina tossed in once. His death certificate is our only documentation of his parents’ names.

I am looking for any information on my great grandfather, JACK MITCHEL(L) born in Missouri abt. 1883. He
married ANNA VIOLA SHROFF. They were married 17 May 1933 in Carthage, Jasper, Missouri. However, thier
marriage license lists them as residents of Cherokee, Kansas. The had one child, Viola Mae Mitchel(l) (my
grandmother). He was about 50 years old at the time of his marriage and his daughters birth in 1934.

Well, a biography of my 3g grandfather Moses Grant Mitchell says I am, but it's doubtful. I thought though I might as well find out. It's slow going with John Mitchell, no birth dates, no parents. Note that the info comes from his wife's and son's wifes family. He comes from VA and PA, my Mitchells come from NC and ?

OMM Sr's parents were John Mitchel and Elizabeth McAllister. They apparently lived in Winchester VA before coming to KY.

This was interesting to me in the fact my ggg grandfather was James Mitchel born unknown in Scotland… James had a son, George Mitchel born 22 AUG 1821 in New York who married, abt. 1842, Eliza M Davis born SEP 1826 in Massachusetts…

They had 5 children:
Lucinda, b. abt. 1843 in New York
George, b. abt. 1847 in Indiana
James, b. March 31, 1850 in Indiana (my great grandfather)
Charles, abt 1855 in New York
Hiram Adelbert, January 1869 in Michigan

In 1850 they spelled their surname Mitchel, then it fluctuated between Mitchell..

Your James Mitchel born 1786 would have been 35 years old when my George Mitchell was born in 1821…

My paternal DNA haplogroup is R1a1--not sure there's a possibility of Arab but could be Polish, Indian, Pakistani (in the distant past), Jewish.

also you may want to check Scotland, Ireland and the UK. You are welcome to take a look at my line and offer any comments that you may have to offer. I have fount when I cannot fine them here in the USA and it has "abt" in it look outside the USA especially after the early 1800's. I have the following names in my family:
Mitchell Out of Germany and Scotland/Ireland
Wells Morrison out of Germany/Egypt this one they dropped the Wells after coming to the States
Morrison
Mc Bride out of Scotland/Ireland/Egypt
Furgerson
Blankenship
Jones came out of the UK
Maxie
on an on
my grand mother is still living AT 101+ and I have marriage license that she has kept all these years of her gran and great grand parents that my mother now holds.

Most of the time the mothers family name was listed as one of the middle names and the family name being the fathers last name.

I hope you can read and understand German, go to ancestry.de and that will take you to the German site. Good luck and hope this helps. I have found the names were changed once they arrived here in the states also you may want to check out the Germana settlements as well. Don't be surprised when you find a few Arabs in the tree.

The following info was transcribed from a family bible I recently saw in an antique shop:
Marriages:
Issac Gray married Hannah Mitchel May 12, 1872

Births:
Issac was born Oct 13, 1847

Hannah was born Dec 30, 1857

Deaths:
Eliza Mitchel died Oct 13, 1898 in her 79th year

Issac Gray died May 3, 1929 aged 81y 6m 10d

This bible was seen in early March of 2008 in an antique shop in Columbia, Lancaster County PA.

I have no connection to this family, I just like to help connect families with their lost items and info.

She's listed as the mother of George W. B. King, born Feb. 3, 1876 in York Ontario on the birth certificate. George's father was Levi King. But she's been a mystery. When George married, he wasn't sure of his mother's correct name. Either she died or she wasn't involved in his upbringing. Also looking for information on Levi King. I've found 3 possible ones in Ontario, but can't find one that had a son George. Any help would be appreciated.

My Ggrandfather was George Arthur Mitchel from the Pittsburg area of PA. He was born in the late 1800s and married Gertrude Nolf. They had 2 children and she died when my grandmother was nine. He abandoned the children so we know very little about this line of the family.

Dear Joan, my name is William Mitchell. I am the Grandson of Frederick Mortimer Mitchell. He married my Grandmother Annie LaGrassa in Sept 1898 and my father Henry Walter mItchell was born on Oct 18, 1898.
My Fred and Annie were listed in the 1900 US census in Brooklyn NY. Annie died married in 1906 of diabetes. I have been looking for Frederick for 10 years. I have found his father in England and Kingston and his mother Susan who were married on July 17, 1866 I even hve the church. Susan and Henry had at least 10 kids including Frederick. I'm looking for my grandmother's ancestors. Her grandfather was J.W. Johnson born 1835 in GA. He married Sara Mitchel(l). They had at least 7 children.
My grandmother's family lived in the Northern to Central Georgia region.

He is my great grandfather. i wonder if this is the same man? what i know of my joseph, he lived in massachusetts in 1900, had may children, my grandfather was one of his youngest. fred was born @1900. other siblings were rosa, rena , george, hurby, albert, richard,leon, florence,emil,lora, probably others- --- also a connection to the surname of sawtell, chapman, and bernard. they spoke french, and probably were partly native i hope we may be able to help each other.

I am searching for info on the African-American line of the Mitchel Family of Hinds County, Mississippi. To show where I fit in as far as the family, here's my "tree" thus far:

My name is Vincent Davis, firstborn son of Carole (Camel) Dorsey, grandson of Sweetie (Brac(e)y) Camel, great-grandson of Lucinda (Mitchel) Brac(e)y, and the great-great grandson of Peggie Mitchel.

I am looking for info on Peggy(or Peggie) Mitchel, her maiden name, and which Mitchel man she married. Census records show that Peggie was widowed at a young age, so if anyone knows about whom she was married to, that would be greatly appreciated. My maternal family's origins are definitely from Hinds County, Mississippi.

Or, if anyone knows about my great-grandmother Lucinda Mitchel, who also went by the nicknames Ceney and Cendy, then please let me know, as I would love to talk to you.

I am searching for William Mitchel. He was born about 1798 and he died in Oct 1838 of a fever. William married Susanna Hensley on Nov 30, 1821, she was born in 1802 in Ky.
