Jerry Mobley born 1815 South Carolina

Does anyone have information on Jerry Mobley born in South Carolina around 1815? I would love to know who his father was. (Black American) Was Jerry Mobley a slave of one of your ancestors? Please do not let shame or fear stop you from contacting me with more information. I think we can all accept the truth.

Jerry Mobley was born to Hannah Rutledge. Hannah was born about 1795 in South Carolina. Considering the time period, I'm assuming that they were both slaves. I am not sure. Help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thank you.

My family pronounces the name, Mo-bley. (Long O)

However, my grandparents, Lemuel Henry and Pearly Rose Stallions/Mobley came from Southwest Missouri.

A little town called Reedsprings is near their birthplace.

Back in the early 1950s my parents took the family on a trip back east which included a stop-over in Reedsprings.

My dad hoping to find someone that knew his father before the family moved out to Oregon/Washington, found three or four gentlemen sitting on a bench in the shade of a drugstore if I remember rightly. One was whittling on a stick! lol

He introduced himself as Ed Mo-bley and asked if anyone knew his father. Not one of the men sitting there answered in the affirmative. Dad chatted with them a while, then the "light" turned on and he thought to ask, do any of you men remember Henry Mob-ley?

At least one or two of the men replied yes. They swapped stories for a while and then we headed out on our trip.

Funny how regional differences make a difference in how the name is pronounced, or spelled even.

Jerry Mo-bley

Hi Con, I'm researching the Mobley line and have seen your various posts. You seem to be somewhat an authority on this line, so I' thought I'd see if you could help. I'm tracing the line of William Mobberly (c. 1802 Sulgrave, Northhamptonshire, England); married Frances Pratt 13 Oct 1825. They had four children: George (b. 1826); Alice (b. 1828); Henry (b. 1830) and Anne (b. 1833). They came to America aboard the ship Hamilton, arriving in New york on 15 September 1835. I have information to current on this line, but alot of it is sketchy. I would love to see if you have additional info to fill in those blanks. Thanks.

               Mobley/Mobly Rhone/Rhoane/Rone/Roan/Roane

I had always assumed that Mobley was the father of Caroline b. 1825 in N.C. m. Green W. Meredith, Malinda b. 1826 in N.C., James M. b. 1830 in N.C. and George W. b. 1833 in N.C. since they were all in Houston County at the same time , were all from N.C. , Mobley’s age fit for being their father and George W. named his oldest son George Mobley. However, I have never been able to find any proof and genealogy without sources is considered mythology. It also appears from Texas Land Records that Mobley had a son, Harvey Newton, whose patent he acquired as being nearest of kin.

Here’s what we actually know:

1)	A Mobly Rhone married Mary Prater May 20, 1820 in Mecklenburg County, NC. Security Bond was made by Nathan Prather and was witnessed by Isaac S. Alexander.
2)	A Mobley Roan was in the 1830 Lincoln County, N.C. Census with one male under 5 (possibly James), one male 5 to 10 (possibly Havey Newton) and one male 20 to 30 (himself). There are no females in the household so where were wife Mary and Caroline and Malinda if they were, indeed, his daughters? Maybe off visiting when the census taker came by?
3)	August 5, 1837 a Mobley Rhone bought 40.25 acres in Talladega, Alabama which was described as the SE1/4SE1/4 of Section 34 in Twp. 19S Range 4E.
4)	The same year of 1837, a Mobly Roan is an immigrant to Texas. Source publication: WHITE, GIFFORD. The First Settlers of Houston County, Texas. St. Louis, Mo.: Ingmire Pub., 1983. 35p.
5)	From that time through the 1840’s there are numerous land transactions Which can be viewed by searching for Rhone as Patentee at this site http://www.glo.texas.gov/cf/land-grant-search/index.cfm?sa=z...
6)	On June 22, 1839, Mobley Rhone and Stephen White were chosen justices of the peace on beat 4, and were commissioned on July 4, 1839.
7)	Mobley Roan found in REPUBLIC OF TEXAS:POLL LISTS FOR 1846, page143
8)	He is not found in the Census of 1850 although from other documents, which will follow, we know he is in Houston County. Malinda, James and George are found in the 1850 Census in the household of Green W. & Caroline Meredith.
9)	In 1850, Mobley Rhone married Sarah P. Shirley (Maiden name unknown), widow of Nathaniel Shirley who died in 1849. Sarah P. died in 1855. We find this information in a lawsuit filed by the heirs of Nathaniel Shirley v. Mobley Rhone and argued before the Supreme Court of Texas. If Mary Prater/Prather was not deceased prior to the 1830 census in which she was absent from household, she certainly is deceased prior to 1850 when Mobley marries Sarah P. I make this point because I’ve seen sites on the internet that claim some children born after 1850, S. L. “Bayne” Rhone in particular, were children of Mobley and Mary Prater/Prather.
10)	Mobley Rhone found in the 1860 Houston County Census in household 134, now married to Elizabeth (Maiden name unknown) with children:
Son Jno. W. 20 married to Malissa 15., Dau. Nancy 14, Son Sam Houston 11, Dau. Sarah 10, Son George 8 (Unlikely but not impossible he had 2 sons named George), Son Slyvanus 9 (Would have to be the child of Sarah P.) and Son Wm. 6 (Could be either Sarah P. or Elizabeth’s child)

Other than a few more land records in Texas and at least one other lawsuit in Texas, I can find nothing else to prove or disprove that Mobley is the father of George W. Rhone b. 1833 in N.C. The preponderance of the facts still lead me to believe that he is. My ggggrandfather had two sons named Ralph.
I'm related to Isaac Mobley, as well! Is Vincent Norman the son of Lucy Ellen and James Brown or Isaac Mobley and Mary Ann McClead? Different sites go back-and-forth between the true lineage. Most sites list Lucy Ellen as his mother. Mary Ann McClead would have been close to 50 when Vincent was born. Is it possible for you to share the picture you have of Vincent Norman? He would be my great great grandfather. Also, another question...do you know if there is any Native American in the Mobley lineage anywhere?

Thanks,
Daniya

Hello! I too am looking for info. I am looking for info on a Hugh Mobley, his mother is Mary. I believe this is Mary Francis Bledsoe from North Carolina. She has a brother named Hugh Lafayette Bledsoe so this would make sense. Where did you get your info on Hugh Lafayette Mobley? Do you know if he has a brother Willie? I have birthday of 1903 or 1902 for him on Census data. His mother was previously married to John Wesley Mobley who died, then she married his cousin William M Mobley and had Hugh and Willie. This is what we've pieced together. Hopefully you have some info on Hugh Lafayette that will corroborate? I will be happy to share whatever I know. Thanks!

Tintypes attached to share; need help identifying subjects.

This might help: Two other tintypes in my posession have been identified, and might give a clue as to the identity of these subjects. In the identified tintypes, one is my 2nd gr grandmother, Elizabeth Jane Robinson Mobley Adkins (b SC d OK). The other is an image of my gr grandfather, John Henry Roper (b KY d TX) with my grandfather, James Louis Roper (b MO d TX).

The subjects of the attached two tintypes probably are also Mobleys or Ropers in Hopkins County, Texas. There is no one left in my family who would know.

I am happy for anyone to copy and use the tintype images for your tree. Please contact me if you know who these ancestors might be.
