Long time ago post. Just found this. My Mole ancestors were from London--my family tree is on Ancestry.ca. I am from Canada. My Moles start with William, born 1810, married Charlotte Webber born 1818, and the children were William, born 1850, Mary, born 1860, Elizabeth born 1846. Others died before the 20th century. If you could ask any of your Mole relatives if these names mean anything, then there may be a link to Lincolnshire.
I think I am correct in tracing my family back to Ralph Mole, Cabinet Maker from Alnwick, born about 1796. He had two sons, John Henry and Ralph Jr. John Henry became a reasonably famous artist - please Google him - and moved to London with his wife and family. Ralph Jr also went to London but left his wife and family behind. He was also a cabinet maker and pianoforte maker, by the age of 50 he was living in London with a Mr Liebert, age 26, also a pisnoforte maker. One of his abandoned kids was George William, a house painter, his daughter was Margaret Mole, who married Robert Wheatley and lived in Newcastle. One of her daughters was my grandmother, Mary Leadbitter Wheatley.

An update on my diggings into Moles:

James Mole bn 1787 is my great great grandfather, George Easton Mole is my grandfather. James' wife was Jane Riddle. Most of James and Jane's children were christened in St Georges Presbyterian Church in Morpeth but the eldest, William? and Joseph were born Rothbury, Joseph in Harbottle, which is almost certainly where his mother came from. I'm still trying to locate James' parents with certainty but I think he may be son of Joseph Mole and Mary Napier.

Anyone have anything on the origins of James?

Ted

I saw your posting on ancestry.co.uk - I too have Mole ancestors from Northumberland pre-1850.

My g-g grandmother was Maria Mole born Bellingham Workhouse 17th April 1844.
Siblings included John Mole (c1838), Isabella Jane Mole (c 1840-41) and Joseph Mole (c.1846).

Her mother was Isabella Mole, born circa 1817 from Longhorsley?, Northumberland.
I think she had a brother John Mole (c1821)
She lived in Hole (parish of Nook)1841, Closehill in Charlton East Quarter 1851, Bosehill near Charlton 1861, High Riding 1871 (married to Edward Johnson now) and East Rainton, Durham in 1881.

Her mother was Isabella Mole (c1776), Kirkheaton?, Northumberland.
She lived in Hole, Nook in 1841 and Tanfield, Durham in 1851.

I have found these people in the census, but no fathers details available for Maria or her mother.

I wondered whether we may share the same ancestors or have family connections?

I look forward to hearing from you.

The dead-end on my Mole family is Christopher Mole, b. about 1796 in Rothbury, Northumberland, m. 22 Nov 1817 Hartburn, Northumberland to Mary Wann, died about Sep 1860 in Castle Ward, Northumberland. I descend through his daughter Eleanor Mole, who married William Walker. Their daughter Margaret came to What Cheer, Iowa about 1890 and my line has been in the Midwest ever since.

If anyone knows where Christopher might fit in to the rest of the family, please let me know.

Sarah - your post is very interesting. My maternal Moles came from Bishop Auckland and Witton Park, Co Durham and I remember visiting a Geoffrey Mole when my grandfather died back in 1977(he died at Greatham). My grandfather Joseph Harold was b 1892 and siblings were John Thompson Mole (married Jane Patterson), Harriet and George (married I think Elizabeth Makinson). Parents were George Mole b 1855 m to Elizabeth Williams b 1861 Spennymoor. Is there any connection here?
Jackie
