Charles Molton - 1841-1925 - TN to PA

I'm researching a Charles Molton, born in TN in 1841 & died in Lancaster PA in 1925. I've found him in the censuses for Lanc from 1870-1920. But having a hard time finding him before 1870. He might be listed on a site about colored Union solders, but I wouldn't know how to find such a website. His tombstone only reads: CO A 24th US CAV. Does that mean he was in PA or at least MD by 1860 or when he enlisted? How would I go about finding him on other websites other than one about Civil War soldiers? I figure his last name comes from his owner or father's owner. I see in 1850, there was one Molton family living in TN, headed by a Noble N Molton, 44, farmer. How can I investigate further Charles' family using this info?

Harford, MD Molton / Moulton family (Mathew and Ezekiel) 1790 - 1850

Greetings,

I have analyzed the census records and some other records to make a "guess" at the names through the generations. If you are interested in this family I would appreciate your critical review of my analysis. Please share if you have conflicting or supporting information for my theory:

1790 census- Mathew Molton
Males: <16: 3; >16: 1
Females: 2

We start with 2 possible scenarios for the 1790 census. In both cases the father has passed. Mathew Molton is the oldest son and his mother is living with him. He either has younger male siblings or 3 male childern by a first wife. The other female is either his first wife or a female sibling.

1800 census - Mathew Molton
Male: 10-15: 2; 26-44:1
Female: <10: 2; 16-25: 1; 45+: 1

Mathew accounts for the male 26-44. His mother accounts for the female over 45. Either his female sibling has married and moved out or if that female was his wife, she has died. He has now married Sarah Boyd (we learn this from later census or other records), accounting for the female 16 -25. One of the males from previous census (either a brother - most likely; or a son) is missing -- either died or married and moved out. Two brothers/sons from previous census still remain. He has two new daughters (I believe one is named Elizabeth; I can't name the other) -- probably children of Sarah.

1810 census - Mathew Molton
Male: <10: 2; 10-15: 1; 16-25: 1; >45: 1
Female: <10: 2; 10-15: 2; 16-25: 1; >45

Remaining from 1800 census: Mathew; one brother/son; Mother; Sarah (wife); 2 daughters. One brother/son is gone (married/died). Mathew has 5 new dependants: 2 sons (Ezekiel and William?) and 2 daughters (Sarah and Mary?). 1 of the new dependants is difficult to identify (a son?) as he should have been accounted for on the 1800 census. Possibly he is born in 1800 after the census was completed. Possibly his ages is reported wrong here. I believe his name is John.

1820 census - Mathew Molton
Males: <10:2; 10-15: 1; 16-25: 1; >45: 1
Female: 10-15: 2; >45: 1

Mathew and Sarah account for "over 45." John is the male 16-25. Mary and Sarah account for females 10-15. A new male child (Thomas) is one of the males under 10. Ezekiel and William account for the other two males; I am not sure which child is which age.

Elizabeth has married in 1818. Mathew's mother has died.

1830 census - Mathew Molton (some indexes transcribed wrong as Motton)
Male: 10-14: 1; 15-19:1; 70-79:1
Female: 20-29: 1; 50-59: 1

Mathew and Sarah are obvious. Sarah is the female 20-29 (she marries in 1836). Thomas and Ezekiel account for the other two males.

William married in 1826. Mary married in 1822. John married in 1820.

1840 census - Ezekiel Moulton (head of household has changed to Ezekiel)
Male: <5: 1; 5-9: 1; 10-14:1; 30-39: 1; 70-79: 1
Female: 5-9: 1; 20-29: 1; 50-59: 1

Ezekiel has married Rebecca Bailey. Both of his parents are living with him: Mathew and Sarah. Ezekiel and Rebecca have children: Ezekiel Columbus, Charles, Amelia. I cannot account for the male 10-14.

1850 census - Ezekiel Molton

Mathew has died, but Sarah is still living with Ezekiel and Rebecca. Ezekiel Columbus, Charles and Amelia are still at home.

Any feedback would certainly be appreciated. Any information on folks that passed through this household would also be appreciated.

Lavinia Ricketts
FL
POW/MIA Korean War, MOLTON

I am searching for the family of a soldier who was killed in the Korea War. When he entered service he gave Will County, IL as his home of record. His remains were never recovered. Our government has no family contact at this time for this soldier

Soldier: JAMES ENOCH MOLTON
Born: 1932
Date of loss: 5 July 1953 MIA

When the Korean War ended the enemy never returned or accounted for over 8,000 of our servicemen. They died in their hands. That was over 50 years ago. Since that time DNA has been perfected and also they are recovering remains in North Korea. Our government is obligated to return those remains to the proper family. DNA samples have been obtained from most of the families of these missing soldiers. For various reasons some families have not been located.

When the remains are recovered and identified they will be returned to the family for proper burial. I am just an old (79years) Combat Veteran out of the Korean War and thankful that I did return. I consider this a very noble cause and I hope that you can help in some way to find this family. For more information on the project you may go to http://www.jpac.pacom.mil/. My part in the program is to match up the lost families with the proper agency.

I will be grateful for any assistance in locating this family.

Harold Davis
40th Infantry Division
Korea ’52-‘53
910-791-2333
hgdavis@bellsouth.net
Levi Moulton-Early Kentucky

Searching for any leads regarding Levi Moulton and family. He was born ca 1769, place unknown, and was in the Mason co Ky area by 1800. Daughters Margaret Moulton Curtis and Clemency Moulton Hamilton were both born in KY before 1800. Levi married Rachel Pribble in KY. In 1822, she and a Mr Francis McClain signed the bond for her daughters marriage which leads me to believe Levi was deceased. I noticed from the boards that some of the early Moulton families after they left KY named their sons Levi. Perhaps they were named for their father or uncle.

Ann was also buried in Hartest 21st July 1824.

Over time the surname changed to Malton and now as it stands Milton.

I am convinced that there is a connection between the Molton family and my ancestor Thomas Molton Benfield. He was born Dec 21, 1862 in Burke County, NC. Is there anyone who knows of Moltons living near that area around that time? Any information - even tangential - would be appreciated.
