Is this Ada Fanny in 1881. I can't find her listed with William on the census anywhere but I can't locate him with his first wife either.
This lady marries William Osselton later in 1881.
They are living at The Ship Inn in Heworth County Durham

ASSELTON, William	Head	Widower	M	38	1843 Inn Keeper
Wakefield
ASSELTON, John S	Son	Single	M	7	1874 Scholar
Heworth
ASSELTON, Fred	Son	Single	M	6	1875 Scholar
Bill Quay
ASSELTON, Frank	Son	Single	M	4	1877
Bill Quay
MONK, Ada F	Servant	Widow	F	27	1854 Servant General
Box
Wiltshire

I see from your previous messages that you already have the Osselton connection.
This means that William Monk must have died between 1876 when he married Ada and 1881 when she re-married.

Is William Garrow henry Monk the son of William and Ellen? If so it is quite possible that Ellen died in South Africa.
Hi Jim, I'm presuming the first question in this thread (several years ago) was about Joshua Monk and other sons of John Monk and Frances Hodges.

I'm really confused about the father and mother of Joshua Monk, b. 1780 d. 1848. I can't tell you how many of the public trees at ancestry list John Monk and Frances Hodges as Joshua's parents. But the death date of John and Frances is 1761, which is before Joshua was born.

I started sending individual messages to each member whose public tree listed this information, but there are so many the task is overwhelming.

Can you give me some direction on this? If ancestry hadn't taken the trees off of the Monk My Family site, I could check it out there.

I decided to eliminate Joshua from my tree until I can connect him to the right parents and I'm not adding anyone else until I've "mended" my Monks.

Thanks again for being so willing to help throughout the years.

Huge problem with Monk family trees at ancestry

I'm sure others have noticed that many of the family trees have someone with the same name, same birth and death dates and same parents listed several times on their trees. I'm sure those extra "same names/same persons" have been added when ancestry members go to other trees to find their ancestor and they just add them over and over again. Our trees should have each ancestor/family member listed just ONE TIME.

I've been guilty of adding someone, by mistake, when that person is already on my tree. I try to look at my entire list of names occasionally to see if the same person is listed more than once.

Does anyone have any tips for clearing the extra names or preventing it from happening?

Carol,
I am writing in regards to the relationship of zacharia monk to Silas. Silas III was his father and my great grandpa was one of his brothers. My great grandpa was Marquis D L Monk. He and his wife Lousenda moved to Louisiana and they had my grandmother, Hattie Monk. They also had Fred, Goodfer,J B and Issac. I have never been able to find anything out about Issac and never knew him. My uncle Fred died in a car wreck in Shreveport, Louisiana. Goodfer lived in Calhoun, Louisiana. And yes that is correct. It is Calhoun, Louisiana and not Calhoun county in Alabama. Uncle Goodfer and some of his relatives are buried in a cemetery in Calhoun. Have not been able to find out whether Great grandpa Marquis is buried in Louisiana or not. There is nothing at the cemetery where the other Monks are buried but then some graves have no markers. Have some information that suggests he was buried in Alabama.
Like you, I was told that we have Indian blood and that it is Cherokee. I have found nothing to prove or disprove that. If we do have, it is on the Monk side.
Would be interested in corresponding with you if you are still searching and compare notes as to what we have. I have traced back the line to our ancestor being born in England in 1705,
Theresa Lee
NovaZ27@yahoo.com

Thanks very much for your info, Steven, and please excuse my splitting hairs about the dates these counties were created. Previous to 1777, Georgia had 12 Colonial Parrishs, all along the Savannah River and Atlantic coast. St. George Parrish became Burke County in 1777, one of the original 8 counties. Bulloch, the 21st county was created in 1796. Ware, the 60th in 1824. Lowndes the 68th in 1825, Clinch the 95th in 1850, Colquitt and Berrien the 115 and 16th in 1856 and Brooks the 131st in 1858. In 1818, 3 counties covered the entire southern border of Ga. By 1924 there were 161 counties.
