It will be interesting to know if we are related, since my family come from Canóvanas (Cubuy, Juncos, etc.) My father was born in 1902 and my mother in 1917, so I never met my grandparents; and my parents didn't keep any records. I am the youngest of 14, but my siblings can't tell me anything about my grandparents.

My Mother-in-law's name at birth is Ana Monserrate Lopez. She married Pedro Morales in San German, Puerto Rico and they moved to Guaynabo later. Ana is now in a nursing home in Puerto Rico with Alzheimer's disease. I am trying to find my husbands family roots for our daughter.

Seeking info on the MONSERRATE family in the Santa Isabel, Salinas and Coamo areas of PR. Grandfather was Jesus Maria MONSERRATE-FEBO born 1871 and died 1939. Great-grandfather was Manuel Maria MONSERRATE-RIVERA born in Santa Isabel. The earlier family came form Venezuela and before that were from Seville Spain. Seeking any/all info. on these family members or suggestions for research.

Hello,
I am one of the Monserrate living in Spain. I have read your message and found out that you are called like my father who also have a brother called Luis.

I have always wondered where my family name comes from since it is a very weird one in Spain.
My great grand parents came from Cataluña, a region at the north of Spain, where one of the typical names for girls is Montserrat (the name of a Virgin) and we always thought that our family name could come from that.
But I also know that there is an island called Monserrate.

Maybe if you could tell me if you have found out where your ancestors come from, I can have a clue about mine too.

I am looking for a man by the name of "John Monserrate", from San Juan. I believe he attended UPR in 1965, and 1966, studying Physics. This is regarding a woman by the name of Bobbie Richard, who was visiting San Juan in the summer of 1965....I am told this John Monserrate is from a "socially prominent, Catholic" family in San Juan. My grandmother, Petrona Monserrate Rodríguez, was from Canóvanas, Puerto Rico, but I don't know much about her because I was very young when whe died. My family didn't keep any records. I know that there are many relatives living in PR and other places, but I don't know any.

My (Monserrate) family lived in Gurabo until they built the Caguas to Humacao expressway, they've lived in Caguas since then. My grandfather was Cecilio Monserrate and his wife Simona Garcia.

My mother's maiden name was Monserrate, but I never met my grandparents. I have made an attempt to get information from my older brothers and sisters in PR, but so far I have not received any. What part of Puerto Rico are you from, if you are from PR? I had a sister named Clotilde, but she died few years ago in PR. My grandmother's name was Petrona Monserrate Rodríguez. I assume that she was also from Canóvanas, Campo Rico, or the area around. I am also intruigued by the fact that I do not know anyone by the last name Goitía which is my father's second last name. Sorry I haven't visit this site in a long time. One of the names Petrona sounds like a name I heard was in my family?
My father was Antonio Monserrate. He had brothers & sisters with the names of Claudio,Meletta,Georgia,etc. I know Claudio was married to Carmen.
There fathers name was Juan Monserrate. I don't know the names of his siblings. He was married to Clotilde.

Hi there,

My Grandfather was Juan Monserrate His wife was Clotilde Mendina-Monserrate. They had many children. Clotilde died in a fire in 1970's in The Bronx. NYC.
My grandfather was missing in 1967 or1968. He took a flight from NY and never made it to PR. No one ever found out what happen.
Juan Clotilde had children that were named, Antonio Monserrate / Claudio Monserrate/ Pauloa Monserrate/Geogia Monserrate and others. If you have older family members please ask them may be these names will ring a bell.

I currently reside in San Antonio, TX but I'm originally from Gurabo, Puerto rico, where another branch of the Monserrate family settled. My father is Miguel Angel Monserrate; son of Cecilio Monserrate Viera and Simona Garcia. Cecilio was from either Rio Piedras or Trujillo Alto (or both), and Simona from Juncos. They settled down in Gurabo after they married. My father's siblings are many, among them Angel, Anibal, Clemente, Rosauro, Carmen, Zenaida, Georgina, Gloria, and Nevy. There are a few others that I cannot remember. Don't remember much of my paternal grandfather, Cecilio, so he must've passed when I was very young, perhaps in the late 40s, early 50s.

I'm 18 and am currently attending college at Kansas State University, though I'm from Colorado. My father is Manuel Monserrate III. My grandfather, Manuel Monserrate II, is in New Jersey, but he grew up in the Bronx, NY. Prior to him, the family was in Puerto Rico.
