There are quite a few African-American Monts in Sumter County, GA = In Americus and Plains GA also.

I know the last post was 3 years ago but maybe you havn't gotten your answers yet. I am your granfather's, younger brother's daughter. I am your 2nd cousin. Your dad is known as Jimmy.Unfortunatly Big Daddy passed in 1994 and more recently Uncle Winn 11/2007 and Uncle Conrad 12/19/09. I wish there was more to tell, the brothers stuck together and it was always them against the world. They are not the nicest bunch, but when they love they love hard. Most of us moved out of new york and migrated south east. The sole survivng sister resides in brooklyn with her daughter. Out of 7 children Thomas (Big Daddy) and Jewel Monts made only 3 are living one of them being my dad. I hope this was some help you.

I am searching for family members of Chester & Mary Monts. Their daughter Margaret Kathleen was born in Alberta and subsequently adopted when her mother passed away. Her son would like to know where the other children & grandchildren of Chester & Mary are.

I am researching the Monts also. I happened upon your Chester Monts. Born 1 Feb 1887 in Clark County Indiana. I found a marriage to Grace Traverse on 10 April 1909 in Vigo County Indiana Grace birth 2 Oct 1889. Chester father was John R. Monts of Crawford County Indiana and mother Uretha Shannon of Clark County Indiana. My G-G- Grandfather is John Henry Monts of Daviess County Indiana. But this group intertwines with mine at different times. Hope this helps you some. The Marriage application is online thru the Vigo County Public Library.

My grandmother's surname is Monts. She is from Prosperity, Newberry County, South Carolina.

Peter Straub in 1840 Lexington, SC married Margaret Selena (last name Unknown)

Peter Straub, b. 1810, is listed living next to George Monts in 1840 Lexington Co, SC census. He and his wife are age 30. In 1850 they are in Augusta, Georgia.

Did Peter Straub marry a daughter of George Monts? I know her name is Margaret Selena; need her maiden name. They had only one child that survived, Margaret Clara Straub, b. Dec. 1841; born in Augusta, according to family tradition.

Interment: Memorial Park Cemetery, Clinton.

Hi. You have no idea how much you could have just helped me. My fathers names James Allen Monts but we call him Allen. That is really weird. I believe that you said your fathers name was James also? My grandfather's name is Bobby Monts. Unfortunatly, he passed away in 2001 so I am unable to ask him any questions about my past. My great grandfather, however, is still alive. Hi Ashley. My name is Nyketa, and I live in Columbus, OH. However I was born in Brooklyn, NY. My dad (James Monts II) is from there. I'm not sure where my grandfather (James Monts I) is from. I just always knew of him living in NY. He lives in Florida now though. And as far as I know, my great grandfather lived there too. I don't remember him very well. I think his first name was Thomas, and they called him Big Daddy (you know like some people call their grandma's big mama). Well, I'm sure I haven't helped you at all, but tell me what you know about your family and maybe we can find a connection somewhere.

Hi, looking for info on the family of Mark C. & Victoria Ophelia McCurdy Monts. Mark was born about 1854 in Mississippi, Victoria was born in about 1856 in Georgia. They married in 1875 in Upshur County, Texas. Had two sons, John W. & Thomas C. Monts. Moved to Caddo Parish, Louisiana.

I don't have much else on this family, if anyone else can fill in the blanks, it would be most appreciated!

hi my fathers name is frank kelly he was from key west fla. i got his s.s. papers and his mothers name was caroline monts. her husbands name was john kelly.i am having a hard time finding any information. my father is gone now so that makes it hard i didnt ask any questions when i was young. maybe you know something.

It's funny! I thought my family was the only family with the name "Monts." It's kinda fascinating that we're not.

I'm 20 years old and I am African American. From my understanding, the name "Monts" is French. My grandfather on my dad's side was adopted, so, I guess Monts isn't really my last name(technically). I'm searching my family history to find out my real name.
