Chuck, for gosh sake! I had just hypothesized that the Indian in my son's line was probably from Delfina's line. Was she related to the Mason's that the fort was named for? I did not as yet read the book - I have just ordered it. I noted in another e-mail that we found out about the Aztec or that some Indian from Mexico in the line, from my son's birthmark which can only come from Native Americans, and usually those from Mexico. It was a surprize to me as I had never heard of the Morenos but blood will out. I asked the doctor and then my husband explained he had been adopted. He considered his adopted father his father but lately has wondered about Franklin Wilson Moreno, the biological father on his birth certificate. I think it is an amazing story and I am thrilled with the genealogy for my son. My neighbors are Maldonados, ya never know..! I would love to go visit the site of the Head Stone. I will try your e-mail now. Thank you so much Jackie

Hi Chuck. Thank you for answering. You and my son are 3rd cousins. Your father or mother (child of Adela if I understood your e-mail correctly) is 2nd cousin to my x-husband Franklin Raymond Moreno (birth name). And Frank Wilson Moreno, father to my x, is first cousin to your granmother Adela. Frank M. and Felicita are siblings. I didn't give the name of my x as don't know if he wants me to give it but I will ask him and tell him about you. This is exciting for us because we looked for years for the Morenos. That I know of, Franklin is the only son of Frank Wilson and Frank Wilson is the only son of Frank M. Moreno, senior, son of Andres. We have ordered the book by Stan Brown. My x husband was born in 1926 and I think he is now interested in his Moreno heritage. My son had a birth mark called the "Mongolian spot." Sounds wierd but is true. I asked about it when he was born and the doctor said it is from Indian descent from Mongolia - to the Indians of South America and Mexico that they believe came from the land bridge over - centuries past. I know some Japanese folk have it too. So we know from that, that Frank Wilson Moreno had some Indian in him. I don't know what kind. Couldn't be from Frank Wilson's mother as she is a Wilson born in TX and her father born in MO and her mother born in Tennessee. (unless her mother a Cherokee). Probably it is from Andres mother wife Delfina Mason? Just a guess. In any case, it led us to Mexico for our Morenos and was confirmed by birth certificate and census as well as my former mother in laws tale of her first love. I also saw that a gal named Candy? had a posting and she said her family from Frank M. Moreno too. But dates didn't match up so I am wondering if after Ida and Frank M. Moreno Sr. divorced that Frank M. remarried and had another Frank? Do you know about that?

See 1910 census for Globe, Gila Az for Ida with Frank M. and son Frank (he is Frank M. in that census but later in life is Frank Wilson). In 1910, next door to Ida and Frank M. is Frank's brother in law Ernest Kellner who married Sarah Moreno, sister to your Felicita. Meanwhile in 1910, Delphina is also in Globe AZ (as you probably have in your tree) and living with her is her daughter Sarah Kellner. Probably Ernest Kellner was working by or with Frank M. Is Felicita the eldest? I didn't see any other sons for Andres than Frank M. Jr. and if Frank M. had no sons, Frank Wilson's son, Franklin Raymond, is the male descendant with the name. My son has the name of the man that adopted Franklin Raymond, and again, I will ask if I can share his name. His YDNA taken at 37 markers in case other male Morenos from Spain, Mexico or U.S.A. might match. This might be helpful to you for Felicita's line. If you want to see Ida with Frank Wilson, see the census for Humboldt County, CA for 1920. She moved there. Then see the census for Alameda county for 1930 for Ida who is living with Frank W., his wife Eunice Shewmake and their son Ralph W. I wonder if Ralph W. Moreno had children? Hope to see your tree and hope you will include in it your newly found Moreno cousins! Jackie

Jackie: Aztec indeed...a Priest from the local Catholic church in Mexico, so noted in the book, had sex with Claudia
who had Delfina out of wedlock. So yes, there is some Indian in the family and it's a part Aztec Catholic Priest.Somethings are strange for years I've felt the Indian in me...while in Vietnam, I felt it again. Glad you read the book...it's a good source even though it's only one source. I've been to the Head Stone sight...beautiful and peaceful...the Local Forrest Service Ranger places Flags and flowers there all year long.
Jackie: These Morenos are quite a family. Andres & Delfina had several children, one of which was Felicita. She married Manuel Maldonado of Mexico and she in turn had several children...one of which was my Grandmother, Adela.
Stanley C. Brown of Arizona, has written a good book for reference and material called: ' Andres & Delfina..A Saga of Hispanic Settlement in Arizona '..their life stories are amazing but this story ends sadly. Andres was murdered on the Rim near Pine, Arizona and the Alabama Lawyer served only 15 months prison time. Delfina worked and lived with seven children...most of whom left Globe for greener pastures in California. I believe she lived until 1948 but I never saw her and I was born in '44. If you'll look for the Chuck Sawyer family tree ,you'll visit the family tree of which I'm still building. As you seem to be, I'm very proud of our family and all that they accomplished, especially with little to no knowledge of the English language. Stay in touch.

Best Wishes,
Chuck

Candy, I am replying to an old posting of yours so don't know if you will get this. I couldn't follow all of the history you put, but I do think that your Moreno family and my son's might be the same one. But I do notice two Frank M. Morenos from Arizona both born about 1882. Here is my son's Moreno line: My son is the son of Franklin R. (Raymond) Moreno born 1926 and Franklin R was adopted and his named changed. Franklin R's mother had met Frank W. (Wilson) Moreno at a dance in California and then their son Franklin R. Moreno born. Frank R's father Frank W. married another woman, and his mother married another man. This man adopted Franklin R. whose name was then changed. His birth certificate verifies he is son of Frank W. Moreno whose mother is Ida Wilson born 1879 who married a Frank M. Moreno born AZ about 1881/2. The census track directly from Frank M. Moreno born 1881/2 to Juan Andres Moreno and wife Delfina Mason. However, there are two Frank M. Morenos in Arizona both born about the same year. Hoping you might read this and we can compare notes. Jackie

Hi Chuck,
I just sent you a more detailed e-mail answer about your query. I cannot tell you about the Head Stone - but I did see a book written by a Stan Brown about Andres Moreno. A Frank Wilson Moreno, Andres' grandson, has a note in the book or a footnoted source, therefore it is quite possible that it is Frank Wilson Moreno that got the head stone. My information from census says that Frank Wilson Moreno might be the only male with surname from Andres' line but I am not sure. My son's line is from Frank Wilson but the family lost contact because of an adoption. Frank Wilson Moreno had a son but did not marry that son's mother. That son is Franklin Raymond Moreno - on his birth certificate. Franklin Raymond's mother married another man and Franklin Raymond was adopted by this man. Frank Wilson Moreno married another woman - I think her name is Eunice and remember right now how to spell her last name. Franklin Raymond is still living but has another name. His mother told us the story and we have Franklin Raymond's birth certificate. We know that Frank Wilson and Eunice had Ralph Wilson Moreno born 1929. But Ralph died. I think if you are from Andres you and my son are related. Franklin Raymond had a DNA test but only Y male DNA so no matches yet. Hope to hearr from you. Tell me more about your line and the Head Stone for grandfather - assumiing the grandfather is Juan Andres Moreno? According to the book by Brown, Juan Andres' father is Pablo. It seems to indicate (in book) that Pablo born in Sonora and Pablo's father from Madrid, Spain and they had a Cattle Ranch in Sonora. Andres' mother (Pablo's wife) murdered by Apaches. Most probably one of the ladies is Indian as my son's information shows he is part Indian - probably from Aztec - could be Apache or another tribe from Aztec. Had to come either from Pablo's mother, Pablo's wife or Andres' wife Delphina Mazon/Mason. Hope to hear from you. Jackie

Hi Chuck. Thanks for anwering. I know for sure that my son's biological Moreno line is from Frank W. (Wilson) Moreno. Frank W. Moreno is on the birth certificate for my son's father, who was born Franklin R. (Raymond) Moreno. Franklin R., my x-husband, was adopted and his name changed. From the census it is clear that Frank W. Moreno is the grandson of Juan Andres Moreno and Delphina Mason. So Frank W. probably did get a head stone for his grandpa Andres, but I didn't know that because of the adoption. Franklin R. Moreno lost contact with the Moreno's. Here is the line: Generation #4, my son's father (my x-husband) was born Franklin Raymond Moreno, adopted at birth; Generation #3, Frank Wilson Moreno born 1905; Generation #2, Frank Moreno Sr. b. 1881 AZ,and Ida Wilson Moreno b. 1879 TX married AZ, and Generation #1 Juan Andres b. 1840 and Delphina Mason Moreno both born in Sonora. Ida Wilson and Frank Sr. Moreno are in the 1910 cenus, I think AZ. But before 1920, Ida and Frank Sr. divorced and Ida and her son Frank W. born 1905, moved to California. In 1925 Frank Wilson was 20 and met my x-mother in law at a dance. She named their son Franklin Raymond Moreno, after his father so three Franks in a row! She married someone else and Frank W. married someone else. A son Ralph Wilson Moreno was born to Frank W. about two years after Franklin Raymond was born. I saw in the records that Ralph Wilson (half bro to Franklin Raymond) had died. His wife is a Marilyn S. Moreno. I am wondering if there are more children for Frank Wilson Moreno? What line are you? We are excited after so many years that we found our Moreno line. Again, our source for it is from my x-mother in law, mother to Franklin Raymond Moreno (but now has different name) and birth certificate for Franklin Raymond. Any information is exciting on this family. I know nothing about the Maldonados. Jackie

You might try the church of San Miguel Arcangel. More likely the 18 siblings the majority were baptisted there. They were usually christened with in a few days of birth. Just in case they passed on they were christened. Their marriage probably occurred in the same church and you might get more infor on Theresa parents. I do have a second cousin that is Theresa Romero Dela Huerta Gomez who married a Francisco Moreno. But I don't think their related. There is a good possiblity that George's family if Dela Huerta could possiblity related to my grandmother Maria. But it probaly is so far fetched. My grandmother prior to her death noted that three spaniards (Dela Huerta's) came to mexico through Veracruz leavimg the port of Cadiz, Spain. I can only recall, Adolfo, and they had many children(offspring). That is the stories she remembers prior to her death. Good luck!

Thanks for the tip I will followup with mexico link. I did find some of your family members on familysearch.org free family history. Under Mexican baptisms 1560-1950. Your grandmother was listed Ma. Teresa Moreno Christened/Bap.date
15 Sept 1889, San Miguel Arcangel, San Miguel de Horacasitas, Sonora, Mexico Her fathers name is Francisco Moreno and her mothers name is Maria Jesus Lopez. Please note that it as common for them to abbreviate the first name and last name. I also found francisco moreno christened 25 jan 1891. I hope this helps and you might be able to get more information on you family tree. If they had any native american blood they should have a tribal number issued by that tribal. Good Luck and God Bless.

Yes, my grandmother had the last name Castro, but her maiden name was Robles. I don't know if her last name "Castro" was her step-father's last name or an ex-husband's last name. My greatgrandmother's, (Theresa) maiden name was Moreno, her married name (Fransisco's last name) was Robles. She died on New Year's Eve 1978, she lived in Los Angeles, I am not sure how old she was, she was either almost 80 or almost 90. She had several sisters including Carlota, Ernestina (Tina), Lupe and a brother Fernando and Francisco. There were more siblings, but I don't know the names. She only had one daughter Cora, who married George Huerta.
George Huerta (my grandfather-Cora's husband)was from Texas, but his family may have been from Hermosillo. I don't know anything about George Huerta other than he was Mexican and from Texas.
My grandmother Cora was born in San Miguel de Horcasitas, Hermosillo, Sonora and moved to Arizona during the Revolution, then to Fresno, then to Los Angeles.
It does sound like we have a connection. My mother, Rosalind Huerta, was an artist and always signed her work "de la Huerta." She had a sister, Arlene. Did your George Huerta live in Los Angeles in the 1940's, Boyle Heights to be specific?

What was theresa maria maiden name and her parents. About how old was she when she died. Her daughter was she born with the last name of Castro. Was that her maiden name? Was George from Hermosillo. Most Huertas were orginally de la Huerta. My grandmother, mother was a delahuerta and my grandmother married a huerta and her sister married a huerta. They also came to Arizona since there was a great deal of mines in the area. Send me more info and I will see what I can find. Who know we might be related from a distance. Remember it was common that the females would carry the family name and once arriving in the US it was changed to the husbands so you have to double your research with the names.

Hello, my name is Nadia, and I think that we might be relatives. My grandfather was called Jose Moreno, and unfortunately it expired a few years ago without revealing the real identity of his father (my great-grandfather). My mother has been investigating for years on him. We have a photo in which he goes out with a hull of cavalry.Thank you, I wait for his news.
