My mother Eilleen Emily Joyce Morland

Trying to establish a family tree for my mother Eilleen, born in Oxfordshire (?at Lewknor) on 2l November 1921 and died in Warwick on 28 September 1979. She married Ivor St. Lawrence Morris in Birmingham on 19 March 1949 and had two children: Christine b. 1951 and John b. 1952.

I have only sketchy information about her family background which may or may not be correct. I believe her father was Ernest Harry Morland, a farm bailiff, who died in April 1935 in a motor car accident - his address was Lobb Cottage, Tetsworth, Oxfordshire. By 1940 Eilleen's mother Dorothy (nee Styles) was remarried to a Mr Coombes and living in Church Lane, Harwell, Didcot. Eilleen also had a brother who was killed on active service overseas in World War II.

I should love to hear from anyone with any clues!

Dear Alison(?),

I've got William with two wives. Before he married Ann he married Margery Ascough in 1737. She died in childbirth (along with the child) in 1738. He then married Ann in 1741.

Unfortunately I don't have anything on the John you are researching other than his date of birth. His sister Mary and Sarah are also blanks except for birth dates.

Otherwise I have information on the various male/femal Morland lines from the other child down to the present day.

If you would like a copy of the information I have on the Morlands I can make a PDF file and e-mail it to you. I would need your e-maila ddress as I can't send attachments here.

Greetings
Mike

Hi Sandra!

Good to hear from you, though I'm afraid I can't really help you. My mother Eilleen never talked to us about her family and for reasons I will probably never know cut herself off from them at quite an early age (she had obviously fallen out with her mother, but about what I don't know). She joined the ATS during the war, met my father in the army, married in 1949 and moved to the Birmingham area. I was born in 1951 (NOT 1959 - a typing error in my original post). Eilleen died in 1979. So I never knew anything about the Morland family till Rob Morland responded to the first message above in March 2004. However, he remembers his Nan Dorothy and should be able to give you a lot of information. He has been really helpful to me as well.
I'd be very interested to hear what you find out, and to hear about your family. Rob also put me right about the "lived with" bit, and explained that Dorothy had been Mr. Coombes' housekeeper - she must have needed to work to look after her children.
Looking forward to hearing from you both!
Chris Shaw

Hi Christine & Steve, I shall give you permission to see my tree (not a great deal) but if you enter Carrington Seal which is a private tree (Put in a query for Morland)and then I should receive a mail from Ancestry). I shall then OK it and you can have a look at anything I have on the Morland family. I do remember Zilda's name - definitely! Who were Beatrice's parents? You can add something for me!! I have the old family Bible that Elizabeth Mcbroom's Father gave to her and in it is listed the children. I am still not sure who Elizabeth's Mother was, as there seem to be quite a few Robert McBroom's in Girvan at the time of her birth. The only child to be born in Scotland to Thomas & Elizabeth was Ann - a bit of a shot-gun wedding. They were married in Feb 1863 and Ann was born in April 1863!! I think that was why they came out to NZ, so the family story goes. I was also told that Thomas was going to Glasgow Medical School, but the pregnancy intervened! How accurate that is who would know now?! I think several of the Morland's from Green Island married the Benfell family who also lived there.
Do try to get onto my site and I would love to have any info that you also have. Great to hear from cousins.
Kindest wishes, Juliet

Hello Juliet
I am Steve's sister Christine. I have always want to know/learn more about our Gt,Gt,G/parents Thomas and Elizabeth Morland and their kids's life (history) and many more. The reason why I wish to know as our mum Zilda was only child, the same with her mum (as only child too)Beatrice nee Morland(nickname 'Tris') I think Zilda is your cousin. I would be very grateful if you can provide any more information on this family tree as we have lost touch with the Morland relations over the years. I have got old photos of Morland families I do not know a lot of people in the photos. I look forward to hear from you
Hello Steve, Really good to hear from you. Thomas M and Elizabeth McBroom were my Gt G/Parents. I am descended from one of their children James Morland. Now his sister, Wilhelmina used to go and stay with Daisy Bell in Wanganui. Is this your relation?? I seem to remember the name Zilda also. In fact I am sure there is a photo of Zilda's wedding somewhere in the house. I know Elizabeth was born in Girvan, and her father was Robert - however, there are quite a number of Robert McB listed there. Will get to the right one hopefully, and eventually! Look forward to hearing from you and any connection. Kind regards, Juliet

Good to hear from you. I have been trying to track down more information on this line of my family. Thomas and Elizabeth were my great great grandparents. From there their son Robert married Charlotte Hollands, their daughter Beatrice married Richard Bell, and their daughter Charlotte Zilda was my mother. She married Alan Ward.
I am currently living in Dunedin so have been able to access some of the records held there. I have also been to the Morland grave site in Green Island. I have not tracked through all the different lines of the Morland clan - Thomas and Elizabeth I see did have a lot of children! I would love to hear from you again if you are keen to share some more information. Many thanks.

I have been looking into part of my family history with Thomas Clement Morland who emigrated to Dunedin, New Zealand around 1850's. It appears he would have come in already married to Elizabeth. There may also have been a brother John. There are not a lot of records here for this family although we will keep looking. Any information on this family would be great. Many thanks.

Etta Morland (b.1865), dau. of Marguerite (b.1836), lived Taylorville (Christian Co.) IL

I have two copies of photographs of Morland ancestors, which I would like to get back to family members. Photo of ETTA Morland was taken in Taylorville (Christian Co.) IL in about 1890, and shows a girl about age 25.

I found Etta in the 1900 census for Taylorville, IL, at age 34 (born Nov 1865), living with her mother Marguerite Morland, a widow, age 64 (born Jun 1836). With them was Etta's sister, Alice, age 39.

A second Morland photo is of "John Morland and wife - A. J.'s aunt". This is a couple about in their 60's, and it, too, was taken in about 1890. I did not find John in Taylorville, but these photos were together, and they surely must be related.

Email me at margerice@prodigy.net if you are related to these Morlands.
