Here it is 2 yrs later and I am back at ancestry thanks to my youngest grandtrs class project..I have never found my grandmothers mother an Marie Emma Mortier born in Gothem,BELGIUM 5/5/1852 and died in Halliun, France (a border town)1913...My grandmother immigrated to the US in 1914..Emma married Constantin Dierkens my grestgrandftr...Does this sound familiar to you???Marilyn

Hi hoping you might be able to fill in some info for me or lead me to someone who can.

My great grandmother was Emma Mortier daughter of Aug Mortier both born in Belgium. Emma was born about 1886 and immgrated to Canada in 1926 with her husband and 3 daughters, Henri Lefevere and Laura, Zulma, Elvira.

Her immigration records show the a cousin, Camiel Mortier was thier contact in Canada.

Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated.

Hello, Looking for info on Emma Mortier daughter of Aug Mortier. She married a Henri Lefevere and immigrated to Canada with thier 3 children in 1926. On her ship documents it states they are meeting Camiel Mortier a cousin in Ontario, Canada.

Any help would be appreciated. Emma and Henri were my great grandparents.

I am trying to find any connections between the Mortier family and Morter family. Family legend is that the Morter's were originally from France/ Alsace and were Mortiers before anglanizing the name. I f you have any information, especially dating early 1700's, etc, I would appreciate it!!

There is rumor in my family., the MORTERs that we are descendant from an Admiral Mortier from France, who fled the Huguenot persecutions between 1650-1750 from a Chateau on the banks of the Oise or the Loire, to relatives in Norfolk; in particular, Beccles. He supposedly was helped to escape by an Admiral Tinker and his family. The story went on, that a son, by now Morter, married a daughter of this Tinker family and created the Morter line in England. Nice story, but I have never have been able to proof.

I don't know much about the Mortier line but what information I do have is that he came to America on 11 May 1892. I have a birthdate of approximately 1868 in Belgium.

I am looking for a French connection , an Admiral Mortier and Admiral Tinker ( English) who fled the Huguenots wars with the Calvinists around 1600s?, and settled with Morter relatives in and around Beccles. Apparently the same happened during the French Revolution. A Marshal [one up than General] Mortier fought with Napoleon and is reveered in France. believe part of the family came to Norfolk, England Can you help?

Severin Moriter (8-26-1887 to 11-20-1962) He was my maternal grandfather; he married Louise Marie Janssens around 1910. They left Ruddervoorde,Belgium in the summer of 1920 and immigrated to London, Ontario and then a few years later to Detroit, MI

They had 4 children;

Albert (1916-1980's) East Detroit, MI
Jerome (1917-1980's) Detroit, MI
Gabriel (1919-1983) Moline, IL
Camilla (1920-1986) Roseville, MI (my mother)

I'm the daughter of Camilla Marie Mortier (Young) of Detroit, MI.

Camilla was born in Belgium 1-26-1920 to Severin and Louise Marie (Janssens) Mortier

They immigrated to the USA in summer of 1920

Camilla's siblings's were: Albert, Jerome and she had a sister, Gabriella.

All are deceased and only Jerome's wife, Genevieve remains of their generation.

Any info on earlier family history would be welcomed.

I have an Emil Mortier in my family tree. He was my great grandfather & was from either Harelbeke Oost Verlandern or Hansbeke. He had a number of brothers, some of whose names I know: Artur, Rene, Jules, Romaine & Jeanne. & others. Some went to new york but came back. I think Emil was a carpenter but the Mortier family that I am descended from owned a brewrey & a lemonade factory that sold "ceaser lemonade"

Still cannot believe how many are out there.
Is there a way to write to I think you said your cousin Jay in Rock Is.?? My mother, who is 86 and myself would have loved to go to a Mortier family reunion. Jay Van Paemel, my 1st cousin, is the son of Joe Van Paemel and Gabriel Mortier (my mom's sister, I mentioned in my first response to you). We JUST had a Mortier family reunion on June 2nd here in MI. Jay was there and he mentioned that Mortier's were in the Moline, Rock Island IL area.

I don't think we're related. My grandfather was Severin Mortier (Aug 1887- Nov 1961) married to Louise Marie Janssens (Mar 1891- Dec 1977). They were from Belgium; arrived in America summer of 1920.
Their children: Albert 1915-1980
Jerome 1916-1981
Gabirel 1918-1982
(my mother) Camilla 1920-1986

Jerome had a daughter, my first cousin, Jeanne Marie Mortier, born in 1944. Imagine my surprise when your message appeared in my email. Jeanne lost her battle to cancer in Aug, 1998.

I don't have his exact dob, but I can easily get that information. He passed away in the 1960's, leaving his wife Lucy Mortier, maiden name was De Hulster. I have so much information I do not where to start. My grandfather, Edward, I believe had a brother named Emiel. He was a barber on board ship, Holland-America Line, that sailed from Europe to the states often in the 40's and 50's. He brought his family, daughter, Germaine and son, to the U.S.A. in the early 50's and my mother and father, Albert J.Mortier met them at New York Harbor. They settled in Rock Island, Ill. Please, if anyone out there knows of these Mortiers write to me. I have more info.

I am researching the name Charles Mortier who was my great grandfather. His wife was Amalia Schenfeld. They had a daughter named Evelyn Mortier who was my grandmother.
