I am looking for ancestors from England. Thomas G. Mosley was my grandfather and William H. Mosley was my great grandfather and Florence Warburton was my great grandmother. They are both buried in Pennsylvania. I know that William Moseley (with the extra e in the spelling ) is the father of William H. Mosley and Mary Rathbone was his wife but I cannot get further back than that. If you are an ancestor please notify me. I am kind of new to researching. Any help is appreciated.

I am trying to find sources for Miles Thomas Mosley (b. abt 1856 in Georgia) that are prior to the 1880 Census. The family trees of other members have him as the son of Miles H. Mosley and Matilda Hogan, however none of them have any sources for this. I cannot find the family in the 1860 or 1870 Census records. If anyone has any information about this family, please contact me.

Thanks!

I am looking for information on my grandmother Martha Holt Mosley, daughter of Thomas and Hulda Shell Holt. Born 1900 in Adair, KY. She married Dewey Mosley. She is listed in the 1920 census as living in Liberty, KY. Her first child was my father-James R Mosley born in 1921 in Liberty, KY. She passed sometime between 6-1926 when her third and last son was born, to 1930 when the census listed my grandfather, Dewey was listed as a widower. She died of tuberculosis. Family is unsure of exact date or year of death, I have been searching for her burial place for several years and none of my family remembers if it was in Cincinnati,OH or Covington,KY. I have emailed, called and have sent letters to all cemeteries that were listed in yellowpages. I am stuck, and would greatly appreciated if anyone has information or suggestions.

My Great Grandfather Hiram Harry Mozley was a brother to Samuel Bankston Mozley who was married to "Becca". There is so much information on this line of the family. Please let me know if you want me to E mail or snail mail you the information.
These were very interesting survivors of a very sad time and I am quite proud of how they held together as a family and handled the aftermath of the war years.
P.S.

Mosley is a locational surname, i.e. a person coming from the place called Mosley. Placenames were created long before surnames and Mosley means 'a damp or mossy field'. Ley at the end of a placename always means 'field'.
Surnames came into use during the 12th century when personal taxation began and records needed to show who had paid tax/ tax due etc.
Several places in the UK are called Mosley/Mossley/Moseley and each area has generated it's own, seperate and unrelated, Mosley family.

Thanks! You just saved me MONTHS of researching the wrong people! My husband is yourrr.... let me think....umm... oh hell, I dunno.... distant cousin LOL He is descended through George's brother, John Burke (is it Burke or Burton, do you know?). John & Sallie would be his GGGrandparents.

If at all possible, I'd like to keep in contact. My husband's father passed away last year leaving us with NO history. I'm literally starting from nothing. I've gathered quite a bit, surprisingly, but still have a long way to go. I'm trying to not only get the tree put together, but also to gather stories, documents, photographs, etc from all branches of both our families.

I'm afraid I can't offer much on this end, although I do have a few emails out to who we believe are his father's siblings in hopes of gathering info,... but if there is anything you can share, it would be greatly appreciated. We have 4 kids that have never met 99% of the Mosley side of the family... so I want to gather as much as I can for them.

You can email me at Laja656@aol.com any time if you have something to share or have questions about our branch.

Thanks again!
Laura

John Wesley Jr. is my mother Nadine's Grandfather. She is still living. She remembers him being a Jr. & about 3 years ago we visited Grand Saline, Tx and found his Death Certificate which stated he was Jr. You will note that it was signed by James Herbert Fulkerson. My mother has had contact with the Fulkerson family over the years & they have also confirmed there was indeed a John Wesley Jr. We are still lost at John Sr. BUT, John Jr. married to Sallie is not the son of John William married to Hannah.

Mike ~

Hi! I'm also stuck on this line. My husband is descended through John Wesley - John Burke - Raymond Earl - John Ray. John Wesley's death certificate does say he's a Jr., but I haven't found a John Wesley Sr that fits yet. There are also a LOT of spaces marked "Unknown" on that death certificate, so not sure how much merit I have in that "Jr" title.

Many MANY people have told me his father is John William Mosley (01/08/1839 - 12/13/1919; Burial: Highland Cem Lawton, OK), however, the records are very confusing.

The John William I've been referred to was married first to Parsada Maloney. John then went to war with his brother, Martin. While at war, Parsada have birth to a daughter, Mary Emaline ("Emma"). Parsada died a few months later.

John William later wed Hannah (Jernigan) &, according to what I've been told - I haven't personally verified all this yet - had 10 more children.

Their 3rd child is recorded as John D. Mosley, born November 16, 1872 (according to entries in the family bible). My John Wesley Mosley was born December 16, 1871 (according to his grave marker). ~ easy typo in record-keeping ~ Plus, the 1910 census records list him as being born in 1874, the 1920 - in 1873. sooo... who knows....

It also seems to fit because the 1870 census for Hopkins County, TX states the following:
Head of Household: Jno W Mosley (age 27)
Wife: Hannah (age 26)
Child: Emma (age 6)
Ida (age 3 mos)

John William & Hannah were married January 23, 1867... so it does seem Emma could be Hannah's step-daughter.

Added to this, in 1870 they were living next door to John L & Elizabth Jane Dillingham - with whom John William lived in 1860.

However, the same source from which I got the bible entries states that the child born to John William & Hannah in 1870 was Martha Francis - not Ida - and that John D wed Josie Freeman .... when I know "my" John Wesley wed Sallie Johnson Veal. It also states John D died August 15, 1938, when mine died August 26, 1949.

And so... that is where I am now... trying to verify & debunk these leads. I'm leaning towards the following: John Wesley probably is the son of John William, the census takers were just REALLY slacking in their jobs and/or were just flat out given false information for whatever reason, and the person recording a marriage with Josie Freeman is mistaken in their research --- but that's just a theory at this point.

The search continues.... you are NOT alone LOL ... we'll crack this sooner or later! :)

Clara Josephine Mosley

I am looking for information on my maternal great great grandmother. Her name was Clara Josephine Mosley and she married Thomas Martin. She was born 19 Sept 1887 and died January 1981 in Dutchess County, NY. The censuses tell me that she was born in NY but I know that her family was from Canada. I'm personally not sure if she was born in NY though necause if family stories are correct she used to go visit her mother in Canada which would imply that she was born there. As for Thomas Martin story has it that he was born around the same time as her and he immigrated to Canada as a child. I cannot find any info at all on him. Clara J and Thomas had a daughter-Edith Martin who later became Edith Senior through her marriage to Jack Senior. Clara J lived in New Rochelle and so did Edith until the early 1950's I believe (possibly late 1940's) when the family moved to Dutchess County, NY. Jack Senior did not move with them. I believe that Clara's father's name was Joseph. If you have any information on Thomas Martin or Clara Josephine Mosley please let me know!!! Thank you.

The following is what I've been able to gather on this line. I don't guarantee this as I'm finding a LOT of conflicting information out there. If you have corrections or additions, they're very welcome [esp if you can find who John Wesley's parents were - I'm stuck.
Thank you for the information.

Just yesterday another member contacted me with the information back to John Wesley. He even sent me a link to a couple of trees, but as I don't subscribe to Ancestry, I can't access them. My local library (if you consider 20 miles away local) has access to Ancestry, but I have to access it on location & their computers are always booked up. With 4 kids at home, you can imagine the nightmare of driving down there & waiting quietly for someone to give up their computer LOL So, for the time-being I'm relying on familysearch.org, rootsweb, and boards like these for help.

Again, I thank you very much - I was stumped while looking last night as I found John Wesley's death certificate which referred to him as John Wesley JR... so I was looking for a SR with no luck. This information is very helpful to me.

Mosleys - North Texas

My husband's father passed away last year ... leaving us with no family information. Now that we are trying to piece together his past, we're finding it rather difficult.

His father was John Ray Mosley b Dec 13, 1951 in Ft. Worth (Tarrant Co.) Texas. He married into the Wacaseys of N. Texas. We are pretty sure he had a brother, Kenneth Wayne, who passed away in a car accident around the early 90s. He thinks he remembers there being a sister or two in the mix as well.

His grandfather's name - or at least what he went by - was Ray Mosley. He was also apparently a boxing champ in the Navy. My husband doesn't remember ever meeting him, but he was told his grandfather DID see him which would mean he would've passed in the late 70s or early 80s.

Searches conducted on FamilySearch & the free areas of ancestry & others are yielding nothing.

If anyone knows of any possible leads - anything at all - it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

I am Mike Mosley. William Broughton Mosley was my ggrandfather. My grandfather was Clarence Paul Mosley Sr. My father was Clarence Paul Mosley Jr. I have a fairly extensive family tree on ancestry. It is the semperfi family tree. We appear to be distant cousins. My tree is a public tree so take a look if you like. I have traced the Mosley family back quite a way. By the way many years ago I met your grandfather. I called him Uncle Allen even if he was my great uncle.

H: I recently did a small amount of research and discovered that James Montgomery Mosley was my grandfather' father.

My Grandfather was Harrison Gideon Mosley. He died in Sept. 1970 at about age 87. He told me that he was born where Lake Texoma is today, but the records show that his birth was in McKinney, TX. He also told me that his granfather was full-blood Blackfoot Indian. He was only about 5'3' tall and worked for 40 years building cabooses for the Katy Railroad in Denison, Texas. He told me that he and his brother owned a bakery when the Great Depression hit and that they lost everything. He married Mary Jane Black and together they had 3 children: Ralph Theodore Mosley (deceased), a son named Wayne (is all I know) that died from pneumonia at about 1 1/2 years of age, Lucille LaFone Mosley (my mother & now deceased. Her birth certificate list LaFone as her middle name, but she went by Lucille Jane all of her life.

I can share what I know with anyone that is interested and would love to know more about the Moseley side of the family.

Carolyn,

I do not have alot of information about the Mosley's past Thomas McDaniel Mosley and Eudora Elizabeth Ausburn but here is the information that I do have on siblings:

Thomas McDaniel Mosley, born 11/13/1877 in AR; died 8/27/1953 in Kensett, White, AR

Litty Victory Mosley, born 1/2/1869 in MS; died 1/2/1869 in MS

Martha Mosley, born 10/30/1871 in MS

Mary Elizabeth Mosley, born 10/30/1871 in MS; died 11/18/1939 in AR

William Henry Mosley, born 3/18/1873 in MS died in MO

Lucy Mosley, born 1/15/1875 in MS; died 5/9/1951 in Kensett, White, AR

Dave (David) Eugene Mosley, born 11/19/1879 in MS; died 1/15/1960 in Kensett, White, AR

Thomas McDaniel Mosley's parents were Jefferson Davis Mosley born 9/2/1840 in AL; was d 4/17/1931 in Gray Twp., White,AR. He married Eliza Jane Esters in May 1868 in Nouxabee, MS. She was born 11/10/1953 in AL; died 11/26/1904 in Kensett, White, AR.

Information on a second marriage to Kalley UNKNOWN is taken from the 1920 Census of Chrisp Twp., White, AR; enumerated on 1/2/1920.

Taken from Jefferson Davis Mosley's death certificate, Thomas Mosley's grandfather was Tom Moseley (Note different spelling).

Looking at the information I have on Mary Jane "Molly" Ausburn also passing away in MO, as well as the alternate spelling of Moseley on the Jefferson Davis' death certificate for his father I would be willing to say that William Mosley was Thomas Mosley's brother.

I have no additional information at the current time any farther back than this. I would definitely be interested on any information you have on either the Mosley or Ausburn lines. These are two of the family lines I have had the most difficulty with and would be glad to provide you with any additional information I have on both lines.

Hope this helps. Have a great evening!

Bud
