Hi,

Thanks for your interest but I don't think it is the same John Moss. My John Moss was killed in NSW by his stepson James Bright. They got into a fight and John died of internal injuries caused by a kick from James.

Thanks,
Lachelle

Hi, I believe that I may be a relative. My grandfather's father was John Edward Moss (known as Jack), who I believe was the son of Samuel Moss and Sarah Duffy. Jack worked as a conductor at the time that my grandfather was born. Does this sound familiar?

Looking for information on my birth father, Robert Thomas Moss. I know that he was born Nov 6, 1940 in Elyria, Ohio and for some years resided in Tampa Florida. He was in the military and served sometime in Killene, Texas. He hooked up with my mother Dorothy Maxine Parker there in Killene and had me in Feb 1960. I saw my father for the first time in 1963 in Dallas Love Field. I would very much like to find him as my mother passed away in the last two years.
You can contact me through my Aunt Helen at compgenie@yahoo.com

She had 2 full siblings and 2 half brothers, Warren and Louis Vernon Cox. Henry's first wife was Minnie Adair (Adar). Warren was oldest son then LV. Minnie and Henry separated cir 1896 just after LV was born. They moved back to Pickens Co GA. Henry married Lila cir 1898 and had 3 children. Madge Cox Moss, Henry Cox and Bertha Cox Allen. They all lived in the Anderson Co area of SC. I was told by my mother she thinks her Aunt Madgde owned or ran a resturaunt in Greenville, SC. I can remember visiting my great Aunt Bertha in Wahalah SC as a young boy. Some time in the early 60's. Would love to exchange info on family. I have been working for years to find some of this info as my grandfather did not know he had brothers and sisters unitl he was close to 40yrs old. Thanks Doc

I am a descendant of Willis Moss and would love to have more info on the Moss family as well, if you have come across additional info in the last couple of years. If you send me a message with your email address then I can scan what I have and email it.

Re: Moss family of Bedford County, Virginia

Chris----I see your query of 2008 on a moss family forum and wonder if you are still at this address and researching Moss?

I am helping a friend, Thomas R. Moss, of Memphis, look at his family. There seems to be, as far as I have been able to go, two Moss families in Dyer County, Tennessee. One was Henry Moss (1785) who married Abba Brown and John R. Moss (1818) who married Martha Nash. Tom says he is named for Thomas R. Moss, M D, who descended from the John R.Moss line, though Tom is of the Henry Moss line. He thinks the lines are connected though.

According to some undocumented history I found on line, one of these supposedly came from Bedford County and the other from Sussex County, Virginia. I just wonder if since 2008 you have come across any history of Moss in that general area of Virginia.

Incidentially, one source on line tells that Henry Moss (1785) was a son of Henry Moss and Keziah Freeman. Again, these are only from on line searches, no documentation.

Thanks for your time. Marshall

The DNA projects are fascinating, and I too would recommend it to anyone who has a living male Moss in the family. For the uninitiated, Y-DNA is passed down unchanged for the most part, from father to son to son to son, etc., so it stays attached to a surname. It can do amazing things for genealogy, but only if many people participate. It costs around $120-200, or more, depending on the detail of the test (wait till they're having a sale, about twice a year), and the DNA is collected with a cheek swab. My family has done it for two of our surnames. One company is familytreedna.com, and there are others. I recommend the 67-marker test, but you can always start lower and "upgrade" later.

William C. Moss is my GGGgrandfather. Within our family, the lore has been that his father was an Indian named Love Moss who was adopted as an infant by a white family.

I have no proof of this and, so far, have not been able to prove the existence of Love Moss.

I would welcome any definitive information about William C.
The John C Smith in your reference was a brother to Eaury Smith (WJC and Maria Josephine's mother). Have not been able to find information on their father, supposedly John. The census records for E.M. (Ervin) and John C. were brothers to Eaury (maiden name Smith). All indications are that Eaury and her 2 children migrated from Indiana to Iowa with her father Ervin Smith Sr right after Maria's birth, leaving behind the kid's father. Have been unable to find out what happened to him - did he die?

I have narrow my research down for John Moss to the the area around Oconee, Pickens, Anderson and Greenville Counties which was Pendleton District at the time he live there. He died in Blount, Co Alabama before 1880, He was in Alabama in the Federal census 1860 & 1870, He lived in Georgia 1820 to about 1855. I have knowledge of one son James Huston Moss b. 1815, two daughters Elizabeth and Martha. Wife "R" from 1850 census. Are the county court house records worth researching or is it better at the Archives in Columbus, SC. Tommy

Can anyone help me with the family of a Sallie Ila Moss Childers who was born on 6/11/1877, died on 4/22/1960 and was a daughter to Reuben Moss and Eliza Jones Moss. Her husband was James(Jim) C. Childers who died in Gaffney, SC on 12/26/1927 as a result of a car accident. Both are buried at Unity Baptist Church in Hickory Grove, SC. There is another Sallie Childers buried there also, but, but I'm not sure of her lineage. I am descended from her son James Fred Childers through his daughter Betty Sue Childers Traylor, my mom. I believe Reuben was a son to Barnett Moss. Looking for info on her ancestry and her siblings. Thanks.
