Yes, the Zachow connection is through Bertha - my husband's greatgrandmother. I have that info if anyone wants it. I can't seem to get past Bertha's parents - Jacob Mosser and Ursula Retterer on the Mosser side.

Phyllis Zachow

If they started out in the US in Long Grove, it's very likely they were from Mutterscholtz, Alsace. The village of Long Grove's first name was Mutterscholtz (Mother's Woods), because so many people emigrated from there. My Retterer ancestors came over in the late 1850s from there, too.

The first ancester in this MOSSER/Moser line that I am aware of was Gilgan MOSER he married Rosina MULLER in 1579 in Langnau, Bern, Switzerland. I have no knowledge of them ever being in Germany. My emigrant came from Nods, Jura, Switzerland after leaving Langnau for religeous reasons. This emigrant was Nichlaus MOSER and he arrived on the ship Phoenix on 1 Oct 1754 along with his brother Hans Jacob MOSER. Nichlaus MOSER settled in Dauphin County,PA where he married Magdalena Dellenbach. He moved to Allegheny Co., MD (now Garrett Co, MD) in 1803. My grandfather moved from MD to DE in 1910 and many of my relatives live there now.

Ann

Hello Lynn,

This is my family also. I descend from Nicholas,Jr. who was the youngest brother of Christian. I have found this family back to Gilgan MOSER, who was from Langnau, Bern, Switzerland. He was born c1550. He married Rosina Mueller.

They were the grandparents of the first Nicholas MOSER born 15 Feb 1722 in Noda, Jura, Switzerland. He died 1783 in Lebanon Township, Lancaster County. He Married Catherine Schwartz about 1751 in Corgemont, Jura, Switzerland.

His son Nicholas is the one who moved from Dauphin County, PA. in 1803. He married Magdalena Dellenbach and they had 6 children that I know of.

They arrived in Philadelphia on the ship Phonex on 10 Oct,1754.

I have been researching this family for many years and had a lot of data on them. But I do not have the wife of the last Nicholas who is my direct line. Do you have her name?

My new email is amel31@att.net

Ann

Mosser Family of MD & WV

My Mosser ancestors begin with my Grandmother Grace Mosser (b. 1904) who Married Henry Evans
My Great grandparents are Charles Lee Mosser (b. 1865) who married Amanda Lea Verna Glass.
My 2nd Great grandparents Christian Mosser, Jr. (b. 1812) who married Susan Lindeman.
My 3rd Great grandparents Christian Musser, Sr. (b. 1779) who married Anne Fike
My 4th Great grandparents Nicholas Valentine Mosser, Jr. (b. 1754) who married Magdalena Dellenbach
My 5th Great grandparents Nicholas Valentine Mosser, Sr. (b. abt 1739) who married Maria Schwab

My 86 year old mother who lives in Atlanta, Wilma Evans Markley (daughter of Grace Mosser) would like to visit the gravesites of ancestors she has not previously visited. I am taking her to the Garrett County area for a week in September. Trouble is, I can’t find several of the gravesites.

•I believe that Christian Mosser, Jr. and Susan Lindeman are buried in Old Log Church cemetery at Altamont, Garrett Cty, MD on road between Oakland & Kitzmiller. Do you have any idea where that is and whether there is a cemetery there?

•I understand that Nicholas Valentine Mosser, Jr. and Magdalena Dellenbach are buried on their 200 acre farm in Selbysport, Garrett Cty, MD that they purchased from John Simpkins in 1804. Any chance you know where the farm is and where on the farm they were buried? Is there a cemetery? Who owns the land now that I would need to get in touch with to get permission to bring my Mom onto the property?

Thanks for any help you can give me.
Lynn Gorski
LGorski@mindspring.com

Stacy Boesch, I have information on Ernest's family he had 5 half-brother and 5 half-sisters. He spent some time in Utah in the Army and lied about his age on his WWWI Draft Card. Thank you for the information as to why, hopefully I can help fill in some more blanks. I sent you an email, just waiting to hear from you.

Wendy

I have been researching the MOSSER line for many years. My ancestor was Nicklaus MOSER and he came from Swiss. in 1754 and settled in Dauphin Co., PA. He had a son Nicholas MOSSER who had a son John who had a son Daniel who had a son Lindy Harrison MOSSER. They were Mennonite and Brethren. My ancestor is John's brother Nicholas. They were in Dauphin Co.,PA first then in 1803 moved to Allegheny Co. (now Garrett Co.), MD. Then John moved to Parston Co., WV. My family remained in MD.

I have a cousin researching the John MOSSER family, so I sent her your message as I think she may be able to give you some information on Lindy Harrison MOSSER and possibly you can find a clue that may help you.

Some of John's children moved to PA and points west.

Good Luck,
Ann

ERNEST HARRISON MOSSER BORN 1890

Ernest Harrison Mosser was my great grandpa; my grandma gave me this info. She didn’t know a lot about his history because he rarely talked about it. Born in Illinois Nov 25, 1890, he had a bad childhood, his mother died when he was a toddler and his aunt and uncle had to raise him. His family were Quakers or Mennonites or something like that. He lived in Illinois and said that a brother or uncle or cousin was abusive to him so he ran away around age 14 and joined the military. He had to lie about his age to get in. It must have been bad for a 14 year old to just leave. He was a baseball player for minor or some league but not sure which one just that he was a good ball player. He married Bertha Ruifurt and lived in San Jose California. He was a Studebaker mechanic. Had 2 girls viola Tilly in 1917, and Bernice in 1921 or 1922. He died in Aug of 1947 in San Jose ca. his wife died in 1977 in San Jose, ca. his 2 daughters died on the same day even though they were 1100 miles apart. Viola died in Grand Junction, co, and Bernice died in Capitola or Santa cruse ca, Feb. 4, 2008. Ernest Harrison Mosser was tall, thin, and handsome. I believe he had some siblings that my grandma never knew. I would love to find out more about his family so if there are any mosser descendents that know any of his/his family story, or history, please contact me.

Markus,
Hello. I got your email a good while ago but have not replied. I'm sorry that it has taken me so long. Could you give me some names of your Mosser ancestors? My family is from Alsace in France. I was just there this past summer visiting. Where is Carinthia? In Austria also? Tell me some information about yourself. When you email me back, email me at mmosser@cebridge.net. My great grandfather left Alsace and came to America in about 1870. He had one siste who also came to America. Other than that I don't know of any more of my family that came. I will be waiting anxiously to hear from you. Sincerely, Martin Mosser

I am looking for information on a John Mosser, grandson of William and Anna Steinmann Bishop of Mt. Joy Twp, Lancaster co., Pa. John Mosser was left a house in Elizabethtown, by his grandfather William Bishop in his will. John was the son of William's daughter Barbara Bishop, who married a Catholic and she was not mentioned in the will. John's father's name was not mentioned either. William's will was written Jan 12, 1779. Will was probated on March 25, 1783. John was evidently not of legal age in 1779. Any info will be appreciated.

Thanks,
Betty Bishop Willoughby
bettyw41@yahoo.com

My ggggrandfather was Samuel P. Moser b. Feb 1819, PA. I have only been able to trace him back to the 1850, Greenville, Darke Co., OH census, where the last name was misspelled "Muzzard". He married Rebecca Alice Pauley b. 1817, PA ~1837. They moved to OH between 1845 & 1849, to Warren Co., IA by 1870, to Phelps Co., NE in 1873 and Doniphan Co., KS between 1880 & 1890.I have found a Samuel Mosser in the 1840 Hummelstown, Dauphin Co., PA census who seems to match my Samuel in the age/gender listings. Does anyone know anything about this Samuel Mosser of Dauphin Co., OH? Or have a connection to Samuel and Rebecca Moser/Mosser? Their children were Lydia b. 1838, George W. 1840, Sarah Jane 1842, Catherine Ann 1845, Jacob Jake 1849, Cordelia 1852, Josephine 1857, Nancy 1859,

Darlene,
I joined a website Menosearch.com. Richard Warren Davis is the site owner. It is an excellent research tool and he documents things or tells you it is not documented. I also have 3 books that he wrote before he started putting his research on the Web. We are family "G" if you are interested in joining. They were MOSER when they arrived on the ship "Phoenix " 1 Oct 1754. Nicholas' father was Nicklaus MOSER and they settled in Dalphin Co., PA.
Hope this helps, Ann
I would like to share information with others researching the Mosser family. Samuel and Michael Mosser emigrated from Bischweiler, Alsace, in 1749 and settled in York County, Pennsylvania. Michael and his wife Maria Eva Elsasser had eleven children, among them was son Abraham Mosser, who served in the York County Militia during the Revolutionary War. After the war, Abraham moved his family to Washington County, Pennsylvania and then on to Tuscarawas County, Ohio, where he and Thomas Boude owned 4,000 acres obtained through Bounty Land Warrants.

I have done relatively little research on the origins of this Mosser line in the Alsace area. The most information I have can be found at the link below.

I would welcome assistance in tracing this line further.
Hi Debby,
I am doing some research for a friend of mine. Her great great grandmother was Cordelia Moser Whitney, daughter of Samuel and Rebecca Moser. It appears we are both looking for information on Samuel and Rebecca Moser. I have seen a couple of your postings, and wondered if you had any luck over the past couple of years. Any information you would be willing to share would be appreciated.
Karen Bellmer
kbellmer@mail.com
