At least 3 chinese porcelain services were made for a Mouchet family at the end of the 18th c in England. Were any of these mentioned in the wills you have? Do you know of any record of these? Chinese Armoriol Porcelain volume 2, by David Sanctuary Howard.

Hello
The following could be a connection between the London and South Carolina Mouchet's.
Samuel Mouchet from South Carolina married Barbara McCurdy. They had a son named Henry Ann Mouchet born 1768 Abbeville. There was also a birth and baptism for Henry Ann Mouchet in London. He was born 16th April 1744 and baptised 9th May 1744 in St James, Westminster, the son of Samuel Mouchet and Betty. I now know her name to be Betty Thomson. Obviously these are two different Henry Ann Mouchet's. The obvious connection is the middle name being 'Ann'. Very strange for boy's having Ann as a middle name. I have the will's of Samuel Mouchet and his son Henry Ann Mouchet and a Abraham Mouchet all from London. The London Samuel Mouchet came from Colombier, Neufchatel, Switzerland originally. The Mouchet's are a well known family from Colombier being Lords etc. They can trace their ancestry back hundred's of years. In fact one Abraham Mouchet saved the French King's life at the battle of Ivry. I got this info from the Colombier website. I belive the London Mouchet's to be French Huguenots originally.

sfs36
Thank you for your correspondence from 2006. I just found your message. If you have any information to share, I would appreciate it. I am not a Mouchet - my sister married a Mouchet & I am researching to give her children information on their family. You are correct - nobody has gotten farther than Samuel yet. I hope that I will be able to cross that bridge some day!

Sorry it took me so long to reply to your post. You can find any of the French vital records on LDS microfilm as long as you know the province. If you don't know the date you can search the decennial (10 year) indexes for the province. If you know the year, most films have an alphabetical index before or after the records. Be sure to read the film notes in the catalog to figure out which film roll(s) you want to order. The dates available vary, but generally they have births, marriages, and deaths from about 1780 through 1901.

Wow, thanks for the prompt response! I was able to track down an obituary and a death certificate for Ferdinand Mouchet. The death certificate cites his birthplace as Switzerland. I'm not sure how much stock to put into that because the information was provided by his second wife who didn't know other pertinent information, such as father's name, mother's maiden name, or places of birth. Also, it seems every other census lists his birthplace as France or Switzerland, so I'm not sure which country is correct. Perhaps he lived in a border town which was swapped between the countries?

I do have info that he lived in the mountain town of Chamonix while working as a guide in the Alps. Unfortunately, this doesn't appear to be near Bourbonne-Les-Bains, Haute-Marne, 52, France.

I don't have any information on his marriage. Family history tells me his wife's maiden name was Mary Langtree, but according to the Latter-Day Saints records (website) her name was Mary Layni (these are so similar -- I'm hoping one of them is correct!). Is this enough information to search the French vital records at a Family History Center? I haven't yet tapped that resource. Was that how you obtained your grandfather's birth record?

It's unfortunate that our Mouchet researcher in France is unwilling to share his information! When I was first researching my Mouchets I would come across Leon -- I'm glad you found so much information on your ancestor!

My grandfather, Leon Felix Mouchet was born on 20 May 1874 in Bourbonne-Les-Bains, Haute-Marne, 52, France. In 1903 he immigrated from Paris with his wife Marie to Canada and then came to Spokane Washington in 1907. He died in a mining accident in Kellog, Idaho in 1914. I haven't come across a Ferdinand. I suppose he could have been a cousin of Philibert. Do you know what department of France he was born in? Or where he got married? There is a very good collection of French vital records you can order at any Family History Center. Marriage records usually reference the birth record so it's easy to trace back. If you can find an obituary, it might also tell you where he was born. My grandfather's birth record told a whole story about how his father presented him to the mayor and the event was recorded after the mayor gave a lecture about raising a child. It even has signatures of Leon's father and witnesses.

I have come across two other branches of Mouchets. One descended from a Samuel Mouchet who came to America about the time of the Huguenots and another branch who settled in South America.

I made contact with a Mouchet in France who has done some genealogy, but he doesn't seem to want to share it.

I have information on a line of South Carolina Mouchets, descended from Samuel Charles Mouchet. I can email you a genealogy compiled by others.

Mouchet is a French name. Samuel was born about 1740 in Abbeville, South Carolina so his parents or grandparents may well have been Huguenots. I have corrensponded with some Mouchets in that line, but I don't know of any who have traced it earlier than Samuel.
