Alex, there was a mass migration to California in the early 1900's. Do you have any idea where your parents came from and your grandparents? If we have dates and places of those you can remember (or ask, if you are lucky), that would be awesome. Chances are they didn't go back very far until they were somewhere else. My husband came from Napa, California. Very pretty place but I miss the trees on the mountains.
Hi Kristie,
I am Doris (Moulder) Williams from Il. I also have relatives in Arkansas. I am not sure if we are related because I haven't been able to go back very far with my Moulder branch. My son currently lives in LA, CA. Look him up on Facebook or IMDB as Erik A. Williams. Well, even if we're not related, it was nice to meet you. Good luck in your search.
Doris J. Williams
DNA Project Update and Sale

New results have been added since the last update posted here. M-15 (descended from Henry MOHLER died 1769 Lancaster Co., PA) transferred results from DNA Heritage and is a member of Lineage I.

M-16 also transferred results and is a descendant of George MOLER (ca. 1730-ca. 1783). At present they have no matches.

Visit the project pages at:
http://www.worldfamilies.net/surnames/moler/results

Note that there is a sale on tests through the end of the year.

Rick Saunders
MOLER-MOULDER DNA Project Administrator

DNA Project Update

New results are posted for the Moler-Moulder DNA Project. M-14 is a 35/37 match with the Moler Lineage I modal.
http://www.worldfamilies.net/surnames/moler/results

Their two differences are on CDYa and CDYb which are the two fastest mutating markers tested by FTDNA in their 67 marker test. Their earliest ancestor is Jacob Mohler who was born about 1769-1771, married Susanna Sowers, and died 1826-1829.

Different genealogists at different times have believed that this Jacob is either the son of Jacob Mohler (born 1736) and grandson of Heinrich (Henry) Mohler born 1711. The lineage of this Heinrich/Henry includes M-1, M-3 and M-10.

OR

That Jacob of M-14 is the son of Jacob born 1744 or 1745
grandson of Ludwig Mohler Jr. born about 1726
great-grandson of Ludwig Mohler 1696.

M-14 hopes to possibly determine which is correct through DNA. It is known through people that tested with DNA Heritage (which no longer does testing) that the Lineage I modal also matches descendants of Heinrich (Henry) Mohler (born about 1700; died 1769) and the above Ludwig Mohler, both of Ephrata, Lancaster Co., PA. Unfortunately DNA Heritage did not test CDYa and CDYb, so it is unknown if these mutations may be shared by the Ephrata lines.

The Moler-Moulder DNA Project would love to have proved descendants of either Henry or Ludwig of the Ephrata lines test, and also other sons of Jacob (born 1736) son of Henry (born 1711) of Maryland.

Rick Saunders
Moler-Moulder DNA Project Administrator

Laura, I was speaking of Elijah and Rutha. I have some problems with my memory after losing a son to a suicide a few years ago. I know that Tom Walls and I theorized that Nancy could have been Cherokee but we always wondered about Henry Sr.s mother as we never found a surname for her either. I would dearly love to see a picture of Elijah and family as I have never seen a picture of Elijah.
My email address is cherokeesshadow@yahoo.com
Thank you for being so kind,
Billie

Hi Billie:

Do you mean Elijah and Rutha? (Nancy was Elijah's mother, married to Henry) Henry and Nancy were my GGGG grandparents

Washburn MO is here: http://www.city-data.com/city/Washburn-Missouri.html

I learned that Elijah was buried there from a family letter. When I make the trip I will let you know what I find.

I have a bad photocopy of a photo of Elijah with his second wife and children. I will scan and send it to you if you are interested.

Have you seen this info that says that Nancy was Cherokee?:
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~colettesit...
The researcher does not say why he thinks this may be true. I may ask him.

If Nancy is buried next to Henry, and it does seem likely, her stone is now gone.

All for now.
Laura

I do believe you are right that Nancy is married next to Henry, from heresay, I've never been there. I've also heard that Nancy might have been Native American........have you heard of this? It may have been because we've only been able to find a first name and no surname for her. Thanks for sharing info with me and would be very interested in your research near Washburn, Missouri.

I have information about Elijah Moulder that may interest you. His father Henry and first wife Rutha (Keener) are buried in Dent Cemetery in Barry County MO. You can see pictures of their stones here: http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~mobarry/cemetery/dent/dent...

Elijah died in 1910 and is buried near Washburn MO. I have not found his grave yet but intend to look for it this spring.

I am looking for information about Elijah's mother Nancy who may be buried at Dent Cemetery next to Henry(stone is gone but there is a grave). Some sources say she was born in 1804 in TN. I am trying to find her maiden name.
Did you find the census record you were wanting for Elijah and Elizabeth?

Do you have any idea where Elijah is buried or when he died? I can't find anything in Washington or Benton Counties of Arkansas but he could be in an unmarked grave.
Have you found where Elizabeth is buried or when she died?

My line is from Claiborn so I work more through his mother.

Does anybody have any idea yet of a maiden name for Nancy, wife of Henry Jr? They married in 1821 in Warren County, Tn.

Billie

Hi,

The Washington Co, Ar 1900 census is under Elizah Molder. Because Mary Ellen was born in 1885, 1900 would likely be the only census where she'd be in the Elijah Molder household, since 1890 census' are rarely seen.

Mary Ellen Moulder daughter of Elijah Moulder b. Oct 1825 TN

Mary Ellen Moulder married my gg grandfather Julius Albert Weber on 2 October 1901 in Washington Co., Arkansas.

I cannot find anything to confirm that Mary Ellen Moulder, born 18 July 1885, was the daughter of Elijah Moulder and his second wife Elizabeth Hanson. I have not even been able to find them in the 1900 Census (maybe I am looking in the wrong place).

Additionally, I have questions about the identity of Elizabeth Hanson. Based on the information I do have, she was born around 1852, so would have been around 31 when she married Elijah Moulder. Had she been married previously? Was her birth name Hanson, or was the name of a previous husband?

Does anyone have any details and/or documentation to help with this?

Moulder / Virginia - Ohio

My ggggrandmother was Drusilla Moulder born Jan. 23, 1823 in Virginia she married William Fitzer Dec. 24th, 1844 in Scioto Co., Ohio. I believe she had a sister Mary born abt. 1820 in Virginia that married Andrew Jackson Mc Fann Jun 18th, 1840 in Lawrence Co. Ohio. Mary’s son Dennis Mc Fann was living with Drusilla and William Fitzer in Cass Co. Indiana in the 1860 Census. There was also a John Moler that married Mary Ann Mathews in Scioto Co. Ohio on 26 Feb 1849. (Her mother Mary Mathews consent, witness Reuben Mathews . John Moler Sr. consent, witness James Carlon.)

The other Moulder, Molder or Moler’s from this area are related to Henry Moulder born about 1780 that was married in Washington Co. Va 2-5-1807 to Rebecca Totten. Rebecca Totten parents were John Totten, Druscilla (Possible maiden name Dodd). Rebecca Totten wife of Henry Moulder had a sister Nancy Totten that married John Moulder in Washington Co. Va on 12-16-1813. There was also a Caty Maulder that married William Miller 4-22-1808. All three of these Moulder’s, Maulder were married in Washington Co. Va within just a few years of each other and all three were married by Nicholas Reagan (Niche Reagan Sen.).

Henry Moulder and family went to Gallia Co. Ohio. They show up in the 1820 Raccoon Twp. Gallia Co. Ohio Census also Christina Moler is living next to Henry in the 1820 census. She is also listed in the 1830 census listed as 70 – 80 which would have her born 1750 – 1760. I believe she is the mother of Henry Moulder born 1780 married to Rebecca Totten. I see were some people say Henry is the son of John Moulder and Susannah Swingle also Valentine Moulder that was married to Lavina Robertson. It couldn’t be Valentine that married Lavina because they are the same age as Henry Moulder born 1780. I do think that Valentine Moulder that married Christina is a strong possibility and have seen some other people that feel the same.

Henry Moulder and his wife Rebecca also John Moulder and his wife Nancy are listed in John Totten’s Probate records. In September of 1835 subpoena’s were served on John Moler and his wife Nancy and other siblings of Nancy Totten. Henry Moler and his wife Rebecca and some other siblings are also mentioned as Non-Residents of Virginia. I also found John Molder married to Nancy Totten in the 1830 census for Tazewell Co. Virginia. They have 2 male under 5, 2 males 5 – 10, 1 male 10 – 15, and John 30 – 40 / 1 female 5 - 10, 2 female 10 – 15, 1 female 15 20 and 1 female 30 – 40. I have seen that people believe that this John Molder that married Nancy Totten is the one that moved to Tenn and in 1801. He was not married till 1813 so that can’t be him. I believe that this John Molder married to Nancy Totten is the possible parents of my Drusilla Molder that married William Fitzer Dec. 24th, 1844 in Scioto Co., Ohio. My reason’s for this are I think she was named Drusilla after her grandmother Drusilla Totten. She is the right age for the daughter age 5 – 10 and Mary that I also believe is her sister is the right age 10 – 15 in the 1830 census. I can’t find John Molder in Virginia in 1840. I did find a possible in Fairfield Twp. Highland Co. Ohio. I think that after 1830 the John Moulder family came to Ohio from Virginia were some of his children were married in Scioto and Lawrence Co. Ohio. I think John Moulder died before 1850 because Nancy Moulder is back in Smyth Co. Virginia in the 1850, 1860 and 1870 census. They’re no children living with her but there is an Emily Moulder age 7 years born in 1843 in Virginia living with Isaac and Drusilla Henneger Nancy’s sister and brother-in-law. Emily maybe a grandchild to Nancy. I can find no children connected to John and Nancy Totten Moulder except a Lydia that married Tarris Felty 13 Oct 1833 - Wythe, Virginia. Lydia was born 1814 in Ohio per 1850 census. I have no proof that Lydia was their child only what I have seen on ancestry. Lydia would fit in the 1830 census as the 1 female age 15 – 20.

So this is my possible: John Moulder born 1790 – 1800 is a the son of Valentine Moulder that married Christina and the brother of Henry Moulder born 1780 that went to Gallia, Ohio. I believe they may also have had a sister Catherine (Caty) that married William Miller. Both Henry and John married Totten sister’s. After they got married they went to Ohio were Henry stayed until he moved to Indiana and John went back to Virginia before 1820 because Mary possiblle daughter of John was born in Virginia. Lydia was born in Ohio but married in 1833 Virginia. Sometime after 1835 and before 1840 they went back to Ohio were Drusilla and Mary were married also a John Molder that married Mary Ann Mathews that John Moulder Sen. Witnessed may be a son of John and Nancy Moulder. Sometime before 1850 Nancy goes back to Smyth Co. Virginia alone.

Is there anyone that can add to anything I have found so far? Does anyone know anything about the John Molder family living in Highland Co. Ohio in 1840? I would really appreciate anything anyone might know.

Thank You
Martha Bash
