Hi. I an am ancestor to the Moultrie family line through my mother's father. I have done some research and I found a Dr. John Moultrie (b. 1702) who came to South Carolina, USA from Fife, Scotland and married Lucretia Cooper in 1728. I know that there are Moultries in England as well. From what I gather, Moultrie is a French surname with British Isles heritage. If anyone knows anything else, please post it here or contact me. From Info I have been digging out for a few years: The Moultrie's were origionally from France when England owned the western part of the country. Sometime in the early 1600s they migrated to Lancaster, England. From there they migrated to the Carolinas. In the 1600s some of the immigrants were granted land by king Charles (he was, because of royal ownership of colonies able to grant land)There are still (2) two families of Moultrie's living in Lancaster, England (city of Lancaster) and I believe...Clethero, Lancastershire, England. My grand parents often told me about William Moultrie but I'm not sure which William..My Brother was the fourth or fifth William. the others migrated to Hornbeak, Tennessee where there were a few generations. Some may still live there but I have not been able to connect with them. This info may not be exact but it is family lore.

All of the above mentioned persons are related to me. Alphosine was my great grandmother. In 1912 Albert Moultrie applied for a marriage license with Dora Jones in the state of Louisiana, Vermilion Parish. At the time, he lived in Gueydan, LA. His dat of birth is approximately 1884. At one time he was also married to Lucy Maxile. I would love to communicate with anyone who knows anything about these individuals.

hi silv, my great grandmother was james older sister,she died at my grans house in 1955. Her eldest daughter catharine was named after my great great grandmother catharine allan.your cousin carol does she live in new zealand if so we have been in touch, best wishes tom.

I just completed research for William and Alice Moultrie who were from Flatwood, Floyd, Georgia and later moved to Rockdale, Milam, Texas. Anna was the sister of Sam Moultrie. Sam was the person I was researching. He died in Corpus Christi, Texas.

We have several generations of the family here in South Australia. I find this history searching fascinating but frustrating also. thema< did you ever get the information on the moultray/moultrie/moultry lines? have you ever found out anything more? the farthest I have back is JOSEPH MOULTRAY b. 1744 abt> I saw where the differnt spellings where in the boarder of england and scotland. and just read as you said, were a wild bunch! and I feel we got to be connected some how because the name isn't too commom. Mine live mostly in MISSOURI, but also lived in Georgia, Virginia,NC, and found then shortly in Tenn.but mainly now for many yrs, Missouri.

I'm researching my boyfriend's Family. His Grandmother on his mother's side was Ernestine Moultrie, she was married to Hershel Otis Dennis, he was born in Rome, Georgia. He later moved to Charleston, SC where his Daughter, Gladys Mary Dennis was born & she married James Dennis Grevas in Charleston, SC. Gladys, James, & Hershel lived in Charleston till their deaths. My great gggrandfather was George Moultrie and his wife was Ibbie. They came out of Georgia into Perote, Al. Many of heir children still reside throuhout the south. My mother was Lillie Mae Harvey. Her father and my grand father was Johnny Harvey. Johnny Harvey's mother was Ella Moultry who I believe is the same Ella Moultry married to George Moultry that is in the previous messages. As a child, I can remember my mother talking about my Great Grandmother Ella Moultry. I would like to communicate with you and confirm if this is my family that I have heard so much about as a child. there was a joseph moultrie who was a slave owner in alabama. my gguncles name was george he was from perot in bullock county. for some reason i think all these moultries are related my ggrandfather was george moultrie his wife was ebbie. hope this helps

Another Moultrie Request

Greetings,

I'm attempting to research my family tree and my mother recently gave me a document which had my great-grandmother's name Mamie Moultrie Poyas (Moultrie being her maiden name). The names Sam, Robert, Ben, and Humphrey Moultrie all proceed hers on the document, which was produced in either Charleston or Berkeley Counties.

Other last names in the document (I believe are relevant; first names are withheld purposely) are Poyas, Caswell, Mack, Kinlaw, Hamilton, Segar, Freeman, and Shine. A Robbie Moultrie is also named.

Any and all help would be highly appreciated and please accept my thanks in advance.
