Chinese Moy of Chicago World's Fair

I am trying to track down information about the family of Moy Gee Pong/Henry Moy, born 1892 in Chicago to Moy Sam Sing and Gong Fong Jung, died 1952 in Hoonah, Alaska. Henry passed on the story of being on exhibit with his family at the 1893 World's Fair.

Does anyone have any connections for this novice?

Also:
Ancestry.com has this family listed under the last name "May". All died 20 Dec 1915 in DeWitt County, Texas Ed May (Moy) cert. # 25537 John May Jr. (Moy) cert. # 26536 Katie May (Moy) cert. # 26534 Lucy May (Moy) cert. # 26535 Nora May (Moy) cert. # 26538 Susie May (Moy) cert. # 26540 Rumor has they were killed because they were thought to be Jewish. How were those men responsible able to live with themselves knowing they killed an innocent man and woman with children? Notice there are 6 names. Further investigation found the Moy Family listed in the 1910 Wilson County, Texas Census. John Moy was born in 1874; his wife Lucy was born in 1875; son Edmund in 1902 (around 13 at death); daughter Susie/Susan born in 1905 (around 10 at death); daughter Katie/Kate in 1908 (around 7 at death). Not listed is census was Nora Moy who was most likely an infant at death.

I am also related to John Moy. He was my grandfather's (Joe Moy) brother. I remember that the family was murdered and burned in their home. One son was not at home. I remember the story from my mother (Barbara Moy Sekula) and there was a story featured years ago in the Cuero newspaper about unsolved crimes from the past. I would also like to learn more. Please post if you have any more info.

Thank you so much for all your help. I was wondering if possible you could let me know who the other people were on the photo you attached to your original reply? My family are really excited about seeing a whole new branch of the family! The information below is really useful, but should it format as a family tree? Might be because I am not a proper member and just on a 14 day trial. Any more photos or info you have I would be really grateful. I will include my email below if you feel able to contact me directly - just delete the "this_bit_has_been_added_to_avoid_spam". If there is any info you would like to know about Lily's son just let me know. Thanks for all your help.

Robert
robert.this_bit_has_been_added_to_avoid_spammouland@googlemail.com

I had tracked down a wedding certificate for her marriage to Fredrick Forster on December 2nd 1915. I would be grateful for any extra details you have. My Grandfather never talked about being adopted. This is the first photo I have seen of my Great Grandmother so thank you very much!

Robert.

Thanks for your reply..
I'm aware of the Moys on the New York Packet. I was mainly trying to tie in a Moy connection to my Gallen family...Patrick Gallen b.abt.1858 immigrated to Aust. on the Star of India and the shipping notes said he had a relative Uncle James Moy at Raymond Terrace.
On Patricks death certificate his mother is stated as Bridget Moy - so I am assuming that James is Bridget's brother - I just don't know which James is the one!
Patrick Gallen's father was William Gallen. I beleive that were some other children as well - Maurice and Rose - but not sure if they came to Australia.
It would be a real help if anyone can help me out..
Thanks
Brenda

I can't help you directly, but I have a Patrick Moy, married to a Cecily (Cecilia)Carlin, who emigrated from Donaghmore in 1841 per "NEW YORK PACKET" and settled at Raymond Terrace. Our family notes on Patrick state that his unmarried brothers John and Peter came out on the same ship, along with his cousin (?) James and family. Patrick's parents were James Moy and Mary McCahill but I have been unable to find out anything more about them. Would this cousin (?) James be yours?

I need some help. I am Chinese and my last name is Moy. I am here because I need your help to find my grandfather's father or mother (either way). After looking through what seems to be my grandfather's records, I concluded that I did not find any records relating to my great-grandfather. My grandfather's name is Set Sam Moy and he served in WWII during 1941. If you find my grandfather's father, please post your findings here! Thanks

Correction to earlier post.I am a great grand-daughter of Edward Moy whose daughter Nellie married John Kennedy of Stranorlar,Co.Donegal c.1900.As Nellie had sisters who had families, we have relations around the county from the Moy connection but not bearing that surname. She may have had 2 brothers who emigrated but I have been unable to trace any connections. She did have a photograph of a young man in naval dress, which was taken in Buenos Aire, whom I believe must have been closely related to her.She died when I was 3 so my information is scanty.

I am a grandaughter of Edward and Ellen(Nellie)Moy who lived in Meenagolin,Fintown,Co.Donegal about 100 years ago. There are quite a few Moy families in that area, some of whom are distant relations. There are possibly some relations of the Moys who emigrated to Australia from Donoughmore near here.Donoughmore is also known as Liscooley. It is a townland about halfway between Ballybofey and Lifford in Co.Donegal.There is a Moy Family Gravestone in Sessiaghoneill church graveyard just outside Ballybofey.Unfortunately, proper records are hard to get.The 1911 census is now on-line and may be helpful.

How funny I found this. I am the grandson of Dick moy! Well his name was Richard Francis Moy (not sure on spelling of Francis but can check), abbreviated to Dick. It certainly is him.

I can also tell you that he had links to Norfolk (possibly Mundesley area though not 100%), his father was from there (also Richard Moy) but later moved to London. If you guys want I could do some digging as to where in Norfork, his Father's name, dates of birth etc. by asking family but don't have time to dig through internet archives. He had a house in Kent at one stage too, though this is not a genetic origin.

'Richard' is somewhat of a family tradition for 'the oldest son of the oldest son' in our family (at least 4 generations - me, my father 'Dick Moy' (my grand father), and his father) so it is likely that my g. g. grandfather may also have been a Richard.

Let me know if any of this helps or would like more info or have anything interesting to tell me.

Gul_e@hotmail.co.uk

Although this thread is pretty quiet, I'm hoping that one Moy out there in the world may be able to shed some light on my family history. This is going to be a long stretch, but hey anything's possible.

I am wondering if there are any Moy's out there with Chinese descent had an ancestor who moved to New York in the late 1800s/early 1900s? He would have descended from a rural village in Canton, China. Although already married, in his 30s he went to university in Japan, met another woman and moved to the United States to teach (or at least that's how the story goes). He supposedly had kids with the other woman and that's all we know.

We suspect "Moy" may have been spelled Moi, May, Mow, or anglicized during the immigration process (ie. Moyer / Mayer.

Iam also searching for William Moy who was the father of Sarah Moy born in india, she married my great grand father James Henry Collins 24th Dec 1894 in the Parish of Wilton. They were both 19 years old at the time. Sarah had a brother Henry who was also born in India. I have a copy of the marriage certificate. Sarah and James had a few children one of which in 1906 was my grand father Wilfred. I'm new to the research but if you explain what you need I will try to assist you. If we have the same connection I would be glad of any information you have. Regards Brian

Rene,
I was wondering if you had a Mary Moy in your genealogy? I have a Mary Moy who married Joseph Griffith on October 31, 1789 in Jeffreyston, Pembrokeshire, Wales.
We haven't been able to find any Moy family members around that area, and we were told she very well could have emigrated from Ireland.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!
Thank you so much.
Gratefully,
Mavis Bassett
mavisbassett@yahoo.com
