That was very interesting about the Moya group on Facebook. I'll try to find it. It is always easier to edentify the branches when the second last name is included. I have more information about the Moya ancestors than for some of the descendants, I do know that Ernesto Moya de Quesada Pichardo, born around 1898 in Cuba, my granduncle, married twice and the second was with Lina. Ernesto was the son of Antonio Moya Pichardo and Isabel de Quesada Ramirez (daughter of Esteban de Quesada Gonzalez and Catalina Ramirez Almaura). Ernesto's mother Isabel was very patriotic. During Cuba's war of independence (1895 to 1898), Catalina used to hide medications under her skirts to bring to those who had been wounded. Because of this, she was given a pension as a veteran and had a piece of the bloodied shirt of heroe Antonio Maceo dedicated to her. I remember seeing it in Cuba. They lived in Camaguey Cuba. After much research and assistance by some experts, now we have the Moya line down to 1590 when Francisco (Perez de) Moya (born in Bayamo)married Isabel Velazquez la vieja around 1635.

Hi Graciela,
My name is Adriana de Moya Nance, and my family is also descended from the Santiago de Moyas. I have been told that all the de Moyas from Santiago are related, and while I don't know if that is correct information, if it's true, that would make us relatives!
My great grandfather was Ernesto de Moya, born around 1868 (unfortunately, I do not know his maternal last name). He was originally maried to Micaela Cutan, my great grandmother, who died young. They had two children, Angel (my grandfather), and Isabel, who died as a baby. He then married Manuela Justiz, and they had six children: Maria, Mercedes, Emilia, Beatriz, Ernestina and Ernesto Jr. Manuela raised my grandfather (and his baby sister, until her death).
Ernesto was a captain in the Cuban war of Independence, in the Mambi army. It has been related to me that his wife, Manuela, used to carry information back and forth to the guerrillas while taking "walks" with her children. A pretty good disguise, if you ask me! Ernesto's army record lists his mother's name as Isabel, but I do not have any other information on her.
My great grandfather, Ernesto, later left his family for another woman and moved to South America, where he became a dentist. While in Santiago, I was told that he was part owner of a big department store called "El Siglo Veinte".
I don't know if any of this helps or not, but I am delighted to have found you. We (assuming that we are indeed related) have lots and lots of cousins all over the world. I just "discovered: a branch of the family with members in Ecuador, Colombia, Wales, Luxembourg, Italy, and a bunch of other countries, in addition to those of us living in the USA.
Please let me know if any of this rings a bell with you. I would love to find out more about our family!
Take care,
Adri

Hi Cynthia,
It's possible that our great grandfather, Ernesto may have lived in Mexico at some time. He left his wife and moved to South America with another woman in the early 1900's. I know he lived in Peru and El Salvador at one time, so, who knows? Mexico is a possibility! "Our" Ernesto was a dentist, born around 1888, but I don't have a second last name for him (yet).

Hi Tessie,
Thanks for your prompt reply, your news are very exciting!
I am still not sure of if, or how, we may be related, because I have not been able to find out Great grandfather Ernesto's maternal last name, but it gives me renewed hope to find that your family is originally from Oriente. Since I have been told that all the de Moyas from Santiago are related, and Byamo is not that far, we are probably related as well. The question is, how?
As I may have told you, Ernesto's Mambi army record only listed his mother's name (Isabel). I was recently told that may mean that his parents were not married. I know that, particularly back then, that was a major scandal. However, it makes no difference to me. Family is family, but it sure would be a lot simpler to know some last names I could refer to! As you know, to get anywhere with Spanish genealogy, you have to have the second last name. You are so lucky to know about your family!
I don't know if you are on Facebook, but if you are, we have a de Moya Family group and we have recently discovered a whole lot of new cousins that we were not aware existed. We have cousins spread out all over the world(literally). It's been so much fun!
In the group page, there are a couple of pictures of Great grandfather Ernesto and some of his offspring. He married Micaela Cutan (my great grandmother, who died young, in a train accident)and had two children: Angel (my grandfather) and Isabel, who died as a baby. He then married Manuela Justiz, with whom he had six children: Maria, Mercedes, Emilia, Beatriz, Ernestina and Ernesto Jr. The information and pictures are also on my Ancestry tree. If you'd like to see it, I'll be happy to let you. Maybe some name will ring a bell! Just let me know. My cousin Patty also has a tree with more details about her branch of our de Moya family. Maybe we can all collaborate? It would make me really happy to finally put an end to the mystery, and to know that there is a lot more cousins out there for me to meet!
Take care, and I hope to hear from you!
Adri

Hi, Adriana. I used to think that our Moya family was originally from Camaguey. However, I've since found out that they descend from Francisco Perez de Moya, born ca. 1590 in Bayamo, and married Isabel Velazquez "la vieja" ca. 1635 in Puerto Principe. Their children were:
-Maria married Francisco Tamayo
-Catalina married Diego dela Torre Sifontes
-Isabel married Francisco Perez Tamayo
-Juana married Antonio Tamayo "el viejo". Their son used the name Cristobal de Moya Tamayo (instead of Cristobal Tamayo Moya) probably to continue the Moya line. (These are our ancestors)
-Juan married (do not know his descendents)
As you can see the Moyas married well known families.

Hi, I am trying to track my father's family. They are de Moyas from Santiago de Cuba.Is your family, by any chance, from Santiago?
I recently found out that my great grandfather, Ernesto de Moya (born @1888)fought in the war of Independence, on the Cuban side, and was a captain. On his Mambi army record, his mother's name was listed as Isabel. I don't know his father's name, but I am writing because a lot of the first names in your famly are the same first names of people in my family. If your family is from Santiago, we may be related, as I was told that all the de Moyas from Santiago are related. Please let me know if any of this rings a bell.
Thank you!
Adriana

Do you know the birth year for your great grandmother Elena or Helen Autobee? The original Charles Autobees born in St. Louis, MO, in 1812 had no daughters named Helen or Elena that I know of. There was an Elena Autobee born in 1897 daughter of Juan (John) de la Cruz Autobee born about 1869 and Laura Archuletta born about 1876. Elena had four brothers, Charles A. Autobee b. 1894, Andres aka Andy Autobee b. 1896, Pedro aka Pete Autobee b. 1898, and George William Autobee b. 1899. As far as I know, her brother Charles didn't have any daughters named Helen or Elena. Charles b. 1894 had six daughters but no Helen or Elena. Which Charles do you want information on?

Bill

Hi, my name is Gilbert, my mom was your dad older sister. Their parents were Manuel Moya and Maria Cruz. My mom's name was Margarita. Her mom Maria Cruz has three sisters. Their names were Marta, Delfina and Enriqueta. At one time, Enriqueta lived right behind your dad's house on Torritos. your dad's parents on your grandma's side were Jose Cruz and Concepcion Garza. Jose Cruz was a twin and actually born as a Garza. He was then given to the Cruz family (because they had no kids and the Garzas had too many). I am trying to find Jose Cruz actual family but am still working at it. There is an interesting story regarding our grandmother (Maria Cruz). She and two of her sisters stay out late at a party in approx 1927 or 1928. Because they stayed past the respectable curfew, three of the Cruz sisters were married to three Moyas. One was Manuel (also known as Chino Moya) and the other Moay was Felix. He was married to Enriqueta. Felix later died a few years larpter and Enriqueta then married a Rodriguez. They live in South Bend Indiana. Hope this helps.
Email me back.
Gil

Does your family descend from Ernesto Moya de Quesada from Camaguey, Cuba originally? Ernesto Moya de Quesada was born around 1898 in Camaguey. He was my granduncle, brother of Caridad Eulalia (Lala) Moya de Quesada. He married twice, first with Aida Chinear with whom he had a child Ernesto Moya Chinear and then with Rosalina Gonzalez. Ernesto died in Mexico.

The Ernesto who was my granduncle was named Ernesto Moya de Quesada, so his maternal last name was "de Quesada". He married Aida Chiner and had one son, Ernesto Moya Chiner, who had one daughter (that I know)named Lina. The family originally lived in Camaguey, Cuba, but some later moved to Havana. I am not sure where Ernesto's descendants lived.

Hi Everyone,
I wish I knew Grandfather Ernesto's maternal last name! With Spanish families, that part is crucial, and I don't have it right now, so I'm kind of stuck. I'm trying to see if I can find out.
All I know about him is that he was from Santiago, where he once was part owner of a store by the name of El Siglo Veinte. Does that ring a bell with anyone?
Since Camaguey is so close, it would not surprise me to find out that the family was originally from there.
As I said, I am trying to find out his maternal last name. When I do, I will write back. I'm really NOT trying to ignore any of your questions, I just don't know the answers right now :-) !

What was the name of your grandfather? I have information on five generations of Moyas in Cuba. Our Moya family started in Camaguey, Cuba and many later moved to Havana. The earliest date I have is for Felipe Santiago de Moya y del Risco who married Maria Josefa de la Barrera Arango on November 12, 1820. His father was Santiago de Moya married to Rosalia del Risco, although I don't have dates for them. The genealogy is:
1) Santiago de Moya married Rosalia del Risco
2) Felipe Santiago de Moya y del Risco married Maria Josefa de la Barrera Arango on November 12, 1820 in Camaguey, Cuba
3)Antonio de Moya de la Barrera married Carolina Pichardo Marquez on July 13, 1851
4) Antonio Moya Pichardo married Isabel de Quesada Ramirez (oldest child, Isabel Carolina Moya de Quesada was born on February 24, 1886; other children were: Antonio, Enrique, Emma, Margot, Caridad Eulalia (Lala), Ernesto, Armando, Jorge and Estela Moya de Quesada.).

What were their names? The Moya de Quesada family of my grandmother included ten children: Isabel, Antonio, Enrique, Emma, Margot, Caridad Eulalia (Lala, my grandmother),Ernesto, Armando, Jorge, and Estela Moya de Quesada. Their parents were Antonio Moya Pichardo (son of Antonio de Moya de la Barrera and Carolina Pichardo Marquez) and Isabel de Quesada Ramirez (daughter of Esteban de Quesada Gonzalez and Catalina Ramirez Almaura).

I don't remember any of the Moya family who died during the 10 years war, although they were very patriotic. My greatgrandmother, Isabel de Quesada Ramirez, married to Antonio Moya Pichardo, used to bring medicines hidden under her skirts for wounded patriots during the war of independence.

It was him and he did go to Mexico where I believe he died. He married twice, the second time with Lina. He was my granduncle, the brother of my grandmother, Caridad Eulalia (Lala) Moya de Quesada.
