I don't have a middle name for Edward. He was born in Bilton Yorkshire about 1812. I wondered if it was possible to find out if any of his ancestors had ever gone to the United States in the 17th Century. All my Mudd ancestors come from West and North Yorkshire.

Greetings from Montana (of all places)!

Francis Lucas Mudd was my great, great, great, great grandfather. From what I know from the Mudd Family Books and my own digging, after his death, Eleanor (Ellen)moved to Texas with her three sons, including Francis Lucas Jr. This was about 1836. They arrived shortly before the Texas revolution and fought with Sam Houston. Francis Lucas Jr. later settled in Sweet Home Texas in Lavaca County.

His son George, my great, great grandfather, drove cattle to Montana in the late 1800's, as likely did a cousin, Henry Ignatius Mudd. My family has been here since then.

I've tried to get some additional information on Ellen without success. She apparently was a Daughter of the Texas Revolution and they have a museum at the Alamo.

I am a descendant of Celia Mudd and she was willed to John Donatus Mudd by his Aunt Mary (Eleanor) Mudd. Not his Stepmother. I also have the book Mudd's of the United States book and it talks about the mix up of the Eleanor's. In the 1870 George Henry (Mudd) Barlow is my great great grandfather.

Jenny
Thankyou so much for the info. My husband said he remembers a photo of Constance when she was older. He said that his Dad had talked about 'cousin Connie' I have been doing his family's work and tracking down my father-in-laws parents' siblings. Constance's mother was Annie Anslow Bowley who I had trouble finding and when I finally sorted it out I found Constance and Stanley's info.
I am so sorry for you that you had that experience. Seems both you and Constance missed out. I hope that you were able to find the love and caring that you missed out on as a child.
If I come across a photo I will let you know but I don't believe there are any with Stanley especially given the circumstances.
Thanks again for your information
Dianne Bowley

Hello,
I was trying to find if the 2 volume set of books was available anywhere and stumbled upon this bit of info here. Is there in fact a CD based version of the books? If so I would be interested in obtaining them.

My grandfather was Alphonsis Hilary Mudd from Silex, MO., my father Joseph Edward Mudd was born there I believe.

I already have the set of books. I bought 2 sets for my children several years ago when I discovered that some were still available, but know of a large family of Mudds who would be interested in CD's if they are available.

My youngest brother Thomas Stephen Mudd was the last one in my family to make it into the books 2nd volume.

Hope to hear back. Thanks.
Lou Mudd
Fruita, CO

My great great grandmother was Margaret Mudd Blais and I believe she was from Kentucky. I have a very old photograph of her when she was quite old sitting outside of an old farm house with the rest of her family. She married and moved to Prairie du Rocher, Illinois. I would love to have a copy of the Mudd CD, where could I find out where I could buy one.

Patricia Connelly O'Boyle

I was interested in your post because I am descended from Kentucky Mudds also. I did some research today and I found quite a bit on your Celia. I have her as born abt. 1820 in Virginia (from the 1870 census where she is living next door to John Donatus Mudd in Washington Co., KY with her children including Charles Barlow age 28). Donatus Mudd had 13 slaves in 1850 including a 35 year old and 27 year old black female. (Either could be Celia but since the age isn't quite right for either, is it possible that Celia was living with Donatus' step-mother Eleanor Mudd in Texas in 1850 and that Celia returned to Kentucky after Eleanor's death in 1863?)

Donatus Mudd has three mulatto children on the slave schedule in 1850 - all too young to be Charles but possible siblings? Please contact me if you would like to share more info. amycheshire@san.rr.com

John Donatus Mudd; Francis Lucas Mudd; Eleanor Mudd

Hello- I am looking for descendants of the above named people. My family history starts with Cecilia (Celia) Mudd. From the history that has been passed down from generations I know that she was born the property (slave) of Eleanor Mudd, who married Francis Lucas Mudd in 1816. Eleanor was from Texas and died in Texas. Celia Mudd was willed to John Donatus Mudd by Eleanor.

I would like to know if anyone has any information on actual slave records or know if this story is true.

Also, Celia Mudd married Jack Barlow/Mudd under KY slavery laws and they had children, BUT she also had one child that was fathered by John Donatus Mudd. This child's name is Charles H. Williams (he changed his last name after serving in the Civil War).

I would like to hear any stories about John Donatus Mudd that anyone is willing to share OR if you have any information/pictures about any of the named people - please feel free to share!

Thank You!!!
