I have their marriage in 1776 (auspicious), but I have Elizabeth as the daughter of Francis (d. 1782) and another Elizabeth (no info) and the sister of Hugh (1749-1843). I doubt that helps.

Did you get any further with Samuel?

Kia ora, I'm a Kiwi looking for Muirhead Ancestors, My Grt Grandfather came out to NZ.He was here by 1876, as his marriage to a Margaret Josephine Robertson 22/3/1876. his name was James William Muirhead,b.1853. d 1903 Dunedin NZ. Margaret Robertson came from Galsheilds, Roxburghshire. James came from Edinburgh. Thankyou for any help at all.

I'm trying to sort out the correct father for a Thomas Muirhead, born c. 1857 in Liverpool, England. According to his 1879 marriage certificate (bride Jane Best), Thomas was the son of James Muirhead, Warehouseman (not listed as deceased at time of marriage).

There is a James Muirhead, warehouseman, living in Liverpool on the 1861 census, but there is no son Thomas living with him then or in 1871. This James married in 1858 to a Margaret Metcalf; he was born about 1832 in Scotland.

There is also a James Muirhead, baker, living in Liverpool on the 1861 census and he does have a son Thomas, born c. 1855. He was born c. 1810 in Scotland and is married to Mary Pollock.

The only other possiblity is a James Moorhead, labourer, born c. 1825 in Ireland, who has a son Thomas, born c. 1855, on the 1861 census. Their names continue to be spelt Moorhead, though, on later censuses as well.

So are any of these James Muirheads/Moorhead the correct father? There is only one birth listed in the Free BMD civil reg. index fora Thomas Muirhead and that is for March Qtr. 1855. This would be too early for my Thomas, but would match the son of the baker James.

Thank you so very much. I have been spending time trying to recheck anything I'm not sure about.
Today I was looking at James Boyd who married Rebecca Donaldson Gibb. They had 5 children. One was an Agnes who married a William Muirhead in Rhode Island. They had 8 children (i think). (One my Great grand dad). Also I found some great newspaper stories from Providence and other areas in Rhode Island about family members like Alexander Boyd Muirhead. Who liked to raise hell back then. And was also a great athlete. In GenealogyBank.com, I spent hours there every day last month. They had many about those Muirheads and the clans!

This is the family of Michael Muirhead and Sarah Auld who came from Ireland after 1851 but before 1861. They had four children: Thomas, Flora, Mary and William all born in Ireland. Michael was a carter by trade. I'll send you copies of the various census, Sarah's death registration plus other material later today when I return.

My mom was a Muirhead. Her family came over from different areas. But some came out of Down, Ireland. Others
Glasgow Barony, Lanarkshire, Scotland. Perhaps after leaving Ireland. But I have family that settled in Rhode Island and the Bridgeport, Fairfield County, Connecticut area. I had help from some before Ancestry.com was around. I checked and double checked. But when you have 6 William Muirheads, or 4 Thomas Muirheads in my family. It can be very easy to make a mistake. When many share close dates. I have found a few errors and tried to correct. But I think if I could get a member from those areas who might know the family better. I could really use some help.

Harry Muirhead Sr. His father was James Muirhead married to Eleanor Nesbitt. James father was Solomon Muirhead b. 1817
married to Matilda Fairbairn and then Fally gregson. I believe his father was James Muirhead b. 1780 Scotland Married to Hannah Muirhead. The family settled in Durham County Ontario.

Looking for any information on Mary Bannerman Muirhead who was born in Bombay India abt1853 (unable to find birth certificate).
Mary married Robert Nathaniel Burn January 1876, Bombay India. Mary has brothers and sister as below, but non have the name Bannerman as a middle name. looking for any information of where the name Bannerman could come from.

There is also a heavy link with the Indian Railways.

If anyone has any informtation on any of the above I would love to hear from you.

Alexander Muirhead born 1859

I am trying to trace any information on my GG Grandfather who is Alexander Muirhead born 8th July 1859.

Alexander had an older sister Elizabeth Muirhead who married Robert Burn and had a son called Jack Burn.

Alexander also had a younger sister called Annie Muirhead who married a man with the surname of Rogers and they had a son called Archie. I think that they spent most of their years in Plymouth in England.

Alexander married Margaret Willis in Ludlow, India 3rd April 1886. They had at least two children called Charles (born approx 1889 and Gladys Emily Muirhead (born 29 January 1887) who married Harold Charles Papworth.

Alexander spent many of his years in India working on the Indian Railways before returning to his home in Putney London. Alexander died in London 16th July 1935 aged 76 years.

If you have any information on any of the above names I would love to hear from you.

They had one son that I know of who was Alex Desmond Muirhead who was born 11 November 1919. Charles had a sisiter Gladys Emily Muirhead who was born in India 1887. Married 22nd Jun 1949, he a Blacksmith residing at 17 Earl Gray St., she the daughter of the late Robert French a miller in East Calder where she was born.

A daughter Janet was also 09 March 1856. There may be more children but there are holes in records from 1851-55.

I believe James to be the son of James Muirhead and Janet Mossman b 22 Dec 1813 but cannot confirm this.

1821 Portraits of George & Phebe (Morris) McDowell – Middlesex Co., NJ

I recently located information that oil portraits of George McDowell (1799 – 1872) and his first wife Phebe Morris (1801 – 1843) that were painted in 1821 are up for sale at Christie's in NY next month (Jan 14th-20th 2011). George would have been about 21 years old and Phebe would have been about 20 years old. Phebe is dressed in green holding a book.

According to the 1872 Will of George McDowell, he left the portraits to his son Andrew W. McDowell.

Please note: I am spelling Phoebe as Phebe because that it the way it is spelt in the Morris family bible records.

I would be very interested in hearing from anyone that is a descendant of or has information about George McDowell , Phebe Morris (daughter of George & Eleanor (Covenhoven) Morris ) or Rebecca [Muirheid?] (Georges’ second wife) families.

I am very interested, give me names and dates as far back as you can. The Muirhead's (Moorheads, Mooreheads) came from Scotland. My husband's line came to Ontario Canada. My grandmothers' grandfather was a Watson. Dont have a first names. My grandmother was Cora Endlys, in my family bible I have 3 surnames for her side. They are Endlys, Watson and Buck. Her father was George Endlys. Where it says grandfather (mothers side) it says Watson and Grandmother (mothers side) it says Buck. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

One in Detroit one in West Bloomfield, one in Douglas MB and a SS Death issued in MI, died Oct 1974
