My Father James Mulholland had an uncle Hugh, I don't know his history. There are a lot of Hughs in the family, he had a cousin Hugh Patrick, the family came from the Lurgan area in County Armagh and also County Down. Hugh's parents were John and Esther Mulholland. The tradition in Ireland was that the first son was named after the paternal grandfather, the second after the maternal grandfather, first girl was called after the maternal grandmother and the second girl after the father's mother. As Esther might have been the second, it's possible this is my family

Yes, there are connections!

I am descended from William Hepburn & Nancy Mulholland Hepburn's daughter Agnes Ellen Hepburn. Agnes married John A. Hunter in Winchester, Ontario. They had a large family (10 or 11). Their youngest son, Edgar Thomas, was born in 1901 in Vars, Ontario. E.T. Hunter is my father.
I am in contact with several first cousins once removed, who are descended from Harold James Hunter, one of John & Agnes' older sons.
Are there any other descendants of William Hepburn & Nancy Mulhollad out there?

Elizabeth Hopkins nee Mulholland. b. 1872. Rhode Island. USA.

Seeking contact with descendants or anyone else with knowledge of Elizabeth Mulholland. b.1872 who married Edward Hopkins. b. 1867, at Providence, Rhode Island, USA on 30 October 1890. He was the son of Samuel and Catherine Hopkins and she the daughter of Samuel and Elizabeth Mulholland (nee Dempsey). Edward seems to have died prior to 1930 when widowed Elizabeth was still in Providence, Rhode Island with children Edward (b.1903), Francis (b.1897), William (b.1900), Christopher (b.1904), Marie (b.1910) and Grace (b.1914). Elizabeth had siblings Hugh Mulholland(b.1874), James Mulholland (b.1875) and Samuel Mulholland(b.1878). The Hopkins and Mulholland families were descended from Northern Irish stock and I believe Elizabeth Dempsey (b. Antrim,Ireland about 1846) went to USA from Ayrshire , Scotland after 1861 Census when she was with relatives in Kilbirnie, Ayrshire.

These include Regina (my particular interest), Hugh, Charlotte, John Adolph and Olive. However, Regina and Hugh both appear to have been born in 1863? The Frederick I have is Frederick Picton, born around 1885?
Re: Mulhollands from Co. Tyrone to Rhode Island, USA

Hi Sally!

Thanks for replying! I've seen your Patrick in Rhode Island and federal censuses. Unfortunately he is not the Patrick that I am looking for, but I've wondered if he is in the same family. I went to the Carrickmore (which is the main village/town) in the parish of Termonmaguirk. It's a SMALL place. So these Patricks were likely related in some shape, way, or form. it's a beautiful place by the way.

The Patrick that I am looking for was born in 1776 and came to America in 1845. So your Patrick, if related, would have been the child of someone who stayed in the area.

Interestingly enough, it seems like the whole of the area chose Rhode Island when emigrating. Europeans often chose specific spots when coming to America. The Welsh went to West Virginia (mining), the Germans went to Pennsylvania (farm land), etc. I found a gravestone in one of the cemeteries there of a woman, erected by her son that lives in Providence. Also even among the people today it seems a number of them have relatives here.

As far as finding the birth record of your Patrick, since it was in 1860's, you stand a good chance of locating it. You would either have to contact the church in Carrickmore, or the Public Record Office of Northern Ireland in Belfast. I would go with PRONI since the secretary at the church seemed to be overwhelmed with the onslaught of genealogical requests from across the world.

Are you in Rhode Island?

-Sam

Hi Samel

I have traced my great grandfather back to Termonmaguirk in Co Tyrone. His name was Patrick Mulholland and was born in 1869. I have located his marriage cert for 1890 and I can email it to you if your interested. I have not been able to definately locate his birth cert as I don't know what his parents were called but I have a few possibilities. Thomas Mulholland and Catherine Fox are listed as the witnesses on his marriage certificate. His father is listed as Thomas Mulholland. One possible match for a birth certificate I have found listed his mother as Anne mulholland but no father was noted.

There is the Glenelly Historical Society in that area and they have access to parish and land registry records. If you are interested I can get you a contact there.

I hope this helps

Regards

Sally Ann Mulholland

I'm afraid we are referring to different people. My Frances was probably between 15 and 30 years old and living in Danvers, Massachusetts in 1921. I don't know if Mulholland was her birth or married name. That is the full extent of my knowledge of her.

Dave

My question is how do you know what Mulholland branch you belong to if you don't know much of the family history. My husband's dad's name was Thomas David Mulholland of Minnesota. His dad was Westel Theodore Mulholland, he had 3 sisters but I have no idea what there names were. Westel also has a brother named Raymond. Does this help you at all? Please email me at lttlldy57@yahoo.com

Frances Ward Mulholland is my great great grandmother. She and her husband Joseph Henry Mulholland came to Mobile harbor around 1840 from Bellaghy, Northern Ireland. If any of this makes sense to you, please reply. I'd be most interested as we have little information on her.

Hello,
Oh good, i was trying to figure out where these other Mulhollands came from. Was Daniels name Daniel Hugh? Well i was going through the census records writing down the Mulhollands from Washington County. The earliest one i found was a Bryan Mulholland that lived in Eastport, and then the Mulhollands from Perry and Pembroke came up.
I am interested in any information you can share about the line.

Thanks so much.
Steve

Met Mulhollands from Campobello in Lubec in 2001 - nice middle-aged couple. She was a Mulholland. Lots of them buried in the cemetery in Lubec. The post office in Lubec made the connection to the party Campobello for me! That was just before 9/11, though. Sorry I can't remember their names (she was the Mulholland). Maybe the cemetery overseers in Lubec can help or the Post Office.

Hi List,
I am starting up my research again, hoping to piece more information together. My Mulholland family came from Campobello Island, starting with Frederick and wife Sarah Kane, both of Ireland. There was also a Charles Mulholland on the Island at the time.
I noticed there were some other families in Washington County, Such as a Hugh Mulholland b 1782, Samuel 1810, Daniel 1798 and an Asa 1811, Brian 1811 and John 1808. All from Ireland. I am assuming they have a connection as to most of them lived in Perry and Pembroke. I know that Asa's family name changed from Mulholland to Molholland or Moholland. So i am trying to research as much as i can on these families. I have been getting my information from the census records. Any help would be appreciated, especially on the Frederick Mulholland line of Campobello to Lubec Maine.

Do you think there could be a connection? I know they are common enough Mulholland names as I have found out recently. the children could have emigrated as they did do especially in the last century.

Well my Mulholland family from Campobello and Lubec Maine are related back to Ireland but i yet have the information to connect them, Joseph Mulholland is on the Campbello Census and the 1910 Lubec census. So take a look at those
the link for the campobello is http://www.rootsweb.com/~nbcampob/camp2.htm
So you will find some information out there, my line is Frederick Mulholland and Yours would be Charles.
Thomas P. Mulholland and Mary Catherine O'Shea of Ireland and Baltimore, MD

I just wanted to put this information out there in hopes that some day, someone will have some information to help me out. Unfortunately, my Irish great-grandparents died when my grandfather was very young, so he never had a chance to really ask them who they were and where they were from. My family tree cuts off at them, but I would desperately like to know more about my Irish heritage.

The birthplace of Thomas P.(Patrick?) Mulholland and Mary Catherine O'Shea was Ireland. Both Thomas and Mary were born around 1888. They did not immigrate together, but met in Baltimore after Mary Catherine's first husband died of influenza (his name was Martin Carr, with whom she had two children, John and Mary Carr). Mary Catherine had immigrated to Baltimore, MD from Tipperary, Ireland with her older sister Margaret, and her brothers followed afterward.

I do not know from what city Thomas Mulholland immigrated from, only that he was from Ireland.

In October of 1930, Thomas was a boiler maker and they resided at 1522 West Pratt Street. They had three of their own children: Joseph Patrick Mulholland, who was born in 1930, Thomas Mulholland, and Margaret (Mauggie) Mulholland.
Mary Catherine died at 1708 West Lombard Street, Baltimore, on May 5th, 1938, at the age of 49. Her funeral service was held at St. Martins Church, and she is interred at New Cathedral Cemetery. I have been to this cemetery and unfortunately they have no headstones.

I believe that Mary's brothers were Thomas and James O'Shea, and that her father was John O'Shea. One of these men probably had a son named Vincent. I also speculate that these brothers resided in Philadelphia, PA rather than Baltimore, because I have a couple family photos that have the city inscribed on the back.

There's widespread belief in my family that Thomas owned a bar on the corner of Frederick and Caton in Baltimore at one point in his life, during Prohibition.

If you have any other snippets of information, no matter how small, it would be a massive help to me in my search, so please share!

Thank you!
Lindsey Mulholland

I come from son Abraham and Emma Mulholland. They are my great great grandparents. So just wanted to let everyone know that I am also a researcher or this family.

I have spent many years researching and still as of 2011 have not found any hard evidence of Elizabeth, Andrew and James in Montreal, Canada. Or in Ireland. I have how ever found some great information on Christina Keller, and her family so if anyone wants, you are more than welcome to e-mail me. wldrose@telusplanet.net

I am located in Alberta, Canada.

Hi Mary,
I just read your post before the one I responded to...sorry we don't have the same Christina.

But now that you are here, you don't happen to have a Daniel Mulholland married to Elizabeth (blank)? Their children James and Andrew were born in Co. Armagh, N. Ireland. There may have been other children, because Elizabeth was at an advanced age when she bore James 1827. Elizabeth was born 1778 and died at age 90 in 1868.

Help!
