Frank or aka Francis Mullins. He was born 1899 Birmingham England and at the age of 12 was sent to Canada with Catholic church society (Father Hudson). I know all previous history of him before he left. He was my late Grandmothers brother, and we have been searching for years to find out where he went and what happened to him. I understand that someone in the name of LAUZON from Canada was trying to find out more about him too, but the wrong email address was left.

My name is Dakota Gosnell, my Grandmother was Sharlene, my mother is Deborah Helena Bishop, my mother has been llooking for information about her mother for years, there is some curious speculation surrounding Axley's death, please, my mother only has one picture of her mother, and none of the rest of the family, if you have ANY information about the family or even just Axley, or pictures, please we beg you to send them, we don't know much about the family history, but my mother is VERY interested to hear ANY information that you may have. On her birth certificate, Wallace is her father, but we believe her second husband Juan is her real father, again any info that you have about granny Axley would definately be a huge breakthrough for us. Thank you so much for your time, here is a link of the only info we can find other than your message. http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/t/u/c/Tita-K-Tuck...

Photo Supposedly of Sanford Giffin Mullins

I have the original of a Photo of a guy standing in a field wearing overalls. It was given to me by a non-Mullins lady about 30 years ago along with a couple of dozen of others that she said might be of my Mullins. She said the pic of the guy in overalls might be Sanford.

But, there are a some problems with it. First the flora and fauna appears be of California varieties and Sanford was never in CA. 2nd, the overalls he is wearing were manufactured 1915 forward. There are databases on the internet for identifying old clothes, especially jeans and overalls.

The other photo’s the lady gave me have been proven to be of a McClatney family of early Oklahoma. An older guy in the McClatney photo's has very similar facial characteristics to the guy in overalls. That older guy has very light colored eyes in the McClatney photo's and according to Civil War records, Sanford had "dark" eyes.

So, I have came to the conclusion that that photo is not of Sanford.

Oh yeah, Sanford died in 1907 at Lula OK. He was son of George Ross Mullins and Mary Elvira "Vera" Bailey originally from Georgia.

Mike Taylor - great grandson of Sanford. The above conclusions means that no photograph's of Sanford are known to exist.

Harvey, Stephen, James Mullins

REV. HARVEY MULLINS, one of the leading and influential citizens of Parkersburgh, was born on the 9th of May, 1817, in Danville, Ky., and is descended from Revolutionary stock. His great-grandfather was a native of the Emerald Isle, and emigrated from Ireland to America in about 1750, settling in Culpeper Court House, Va. His son, James Mullins, was one of the valiant soldiers of the Revolution, serving throughout the struggle for independence. The father of our subject, Stephen Mullins, married Lucy Sanderfer, a lady of Welsh descent. When Harvey was fourteen years of age they removed to Alabama, but, not being in sympathy with the institution of slavery, Stephen Mullins took his family to Paris, Ill., in 1836. There he spent the remainder of his life.

The current "authorities" on this particular Mullins family are:

1) Gary Mullins who heads the Mullins DNA Study at FamilyTreeDNA and is in the process of writing a book on the subject:

2) Cornelius Carroll, head of the Mullins Family Association (http://members.tripod.com/cornelius_carroll/Mullins), who has done very extensive research on the Mullins family and published a book set called "The Mullins Families of East KY and Southwest VA".

While neither of these guys are perfect (who is?), they both can be trusted as solid researchers who know their business where the Mullins family is concerned. Both agree that William M. Mullins was a son of William Mullins Sr. (his middle name was not Grancer...he was nicknamed "Grand Sire" by his grandchildren. It's an old term for Grandfather) and Katherine __________. Both question whether Katherine's maiden name was really Smith or Smythe or none of the above.

Here's an abstract of the Will of William Mullins Sr., which names his son William:

----------------
The Will of William Mullins of Hanover Co VA - Saint Martin's Parish:
Written on 2 Sept. 1734.
"To my son, Joshua Mullins, 1 shilling; to my son, William Mullins, 1 shilling; to my son, James Mullins, 1 shilling; to my daughter, Agness Mullins, 1 shilling; to my daughter, Mary Mullins, 1 shilling; to my son, John Mullins, 1 shilling; and to my wife Katherine Mullins, I give the rest of my estate. I appoint my wife to be Executrix of my Last Will and Testament and charge her with maintaining my six children until the boys reach the age of 20 and the girls, age 18."
Witnesses: James Howard, James Houson, and A.G. Smith.
The will was proved and admitted to record on 2 Jan. 1734.
Catherine Mullins with her security, Benjamin Brown, were bound unto Nicholas Meriwether to serve as the Executrix of the Estate of William Mullins. Bond acknowledged and ordered recorded 2 Jan. 1734 [s/b 1735?].
----------------

Either of the two fellows I mentioned above can probably provide you with a good explanation and more proof that William M. Mullins was William Mullins Sr's son.

His grandfather being James Mullins who served in the Rvolution and his gr-grandfather being the Irish Immigrant who came in 1750 to Culpepper Courthouse, Va. There is a bio of W. s. Mullins, Harvey's son at kybiog/bracken county. I still need to know if Stepehn and Catherin Mullins were brother and sister or what the connection is to the other Mullins nearby.

In the 1850 census of Edgar Co IL are Thomas Mullins age 24, Harvey Mullins age 33, John R Mullins age 40 and George Mullins age 29 all born Mercer County KY. The 1850 census in Edgar county tells not only the state where people were born but the county. Wonderful. I was looking here for possible connections to my Cox, Overstreet and McKinney families when I noticed this. A Micajah Cox married Catherine Mullins and they go to Scott Co IL. Does anyone have information on these possible brothers?

Your Joseph is the first in a line of at least three Joseph Gentry Mullinses. His son, Joseph Gentry Mullins was called Gentry Mullins. The older JGM is the son of John Mullins and Nancy Gentry. John Mullins was a private in the Revolutionary War. He was captured by the British and hauled to England where he stayed for 10-11 years.

Here's a bit of info for you:

"Henry and Athalia came from Pittslyvania County in 1805. Henry signed the
license for Nancy Gentry to m John Mullins May 17, 1792 in Halifax Co, Va, he
was a bondsman along with John Mullins . "Sir, this shall in---y you to give
lisnes to John Mullins to be married to me. I oblige you. Nancy Gentry (her
mark) Henry Polly (his mark)."

Perry County, Kentucky. On the 23rd of August, 1839, before Ambrose
Amburgey, Justice of the Peace, appeared Nancy Mullins, resident of said
County, aged 65 years, made oath: That she was married to said John
Mullins in Halifax county, Virginia on the 8th of June 1792.

Recorded on the back of a leaf from a prayer book was the following: John
Mullins and Nancy, his wife, were married on the 8th day of June 1792.
Joseph Mullins was born 25th of June 1796... Daniel Mullins, resident of
Perry County made deposition on oath: That he is the third child of John
Mullins deceased, and Nancy, his wife. That he was 40 years old July past.
That said Nancy’s name before her marriage, as he always understood was
Nancy Gentry. That he knew his father, said John Mullins was a pensioner
on the Roll of Kentucky agency at the time of his death. That he died on
the 25th of February 1838, and that his mother has since remained a widow..

Now old Joseph Gentry Mullins had a bunch of kids over a long period of time and by two wives.

The first wife, Susannah Hammonds issued forth:

Celia @1815~1820
Polly 1820
Joseph Gentry 1822
Benjamin 1827
Isaac 1833
John 1838
Marion 1840
Louisa 1842
George 1843

Then the old man married Hannon~Hannah Elizabeth (Betsy) Kelly and she issued forth:

Orena~Arrena 1847
Jeptha~Jeptheter 1849
Elizabeth 1850
Sarah~Sariah~Sally Ann 1852 (my GGGrandmother)

So, and it's important to note: JGM1 was having children at the same time as his son, JGM2. This has caused much confusion for many.

The first Joseph Gentry Mullins was born in 1794 in NC to John Mullins (1758-1838) and Nancy Gentry. Old Joseph Gentry Mullins and his first wife, Susannah Hammonds, had a son named, appropriately enough, Joseph Gentry Mullins (b 1822) who married Joanna Little. One of their sons was named... you guessed it... Joseph Gentry Mullins (1848-1911). So you can see why the confusion sets in . Too many Joseph Gentry Mullinses running around. AND.. the oldest JGM was having children at the same time as his son JGM and in the same general area. Not only that.. my gggrandmother Sally Ann (Sarah) Mullins who is the Dau of JGM1 and his second wife H Elizabeth Kelly, appears to have had at least one child out of wedlock with JGM2's son Edmund, who would have been her half nephew even though they were the same age. Their love child is my GGrandfather Ambrose, b 1881. His son Fred, whose mother is Lona Caudill, is my Grandfather.

I hope this is helpful to you!

Shane Borders
