I know your post is several years old and you may have since found the information you were seeking. I am embarrassed to admit that my great grand uncle Daniel Munn owned a plantation in Bladen County NC. He had 12 slaves, 11 were male and there was one female. I understand that the original house is still standing and the old slave quarters might still be standing. I don't know exactly where the plantation is, but I have heard that if you go into town and ask, most locals know of it. Hope this is a help to you in your search.

my mother is named Madge Munn from Clarendon Jamaica. Her father is Tiddley Munn and I believe that he is the brother of Willie and the son of Percy Munn. If anyone has any info it would be greatly appreciated. I was born in and still reside in Toronto Canada. As I child I remember visiting my mothers uncle Willie in N.Y.C. but over the years have not been able to learn about my family background.

Did they have a daughter named Christian? Christian Munn was born in 1749 in Cumberland, NC and died in 1799 in Bethel, Autauga, Alabama, according to the information I have.

If you travel just south of Portsmouth Ohio there is a cementery just over the state line in Kentucky. I blelieve it is call Shiloam (spelling?) Dr. David Crawford Munn's head stone is there. I took pictures when I visited the site. My gr-gr grandfather D. Claude Munn is buried there as well. He too completed Med school in Cincinnatti but contracterd consumption-TB and was unable to practice and later became an Newspaper apprentice. My Grandfather Harlan Burr Munn Sr. shared this information with out family prior to his passing in 1968. Munn's run is located on the Ohio side near an old stadium.It was the families original homestead. I hope one day to return to Ohio/Kentucky and meet up with my Munn relatives.

My mother's surname was Thomas. She told me that her mother's name was Clotie Munn and her father's name was Henry Thomas. My mother was born in Hollins, Alabama so the state link is there. I think her father had a family and perhaps married someone else before he married Clotie (at least there were two other half sisters of my mother, Emma and Xenia, whose offspring still live in Alabama). I was told by my mother that Clotie died around 1922 and her father, Henry, died around 1927 or so. Does any of this sound familiar?

Thanks for the information. Back when I first posted the query I thought he may have been the father of an old friend of our family who also was a painter, Ida Munn from Dallas. I've since learned that the two are not related, but I will take a look at the book.

Anna Munn Taylor 1920-2012

SEBRING, Ohio – Anna Mae Taylor, 91, formerly of Charles Avenue, Boardman, Ohio passed away Tuesday afternoon, January 10, 2012 at Crandall Medical Center.

Mrs. Taylor was born June 15, 1920, in Cuylerville, N.Y., a daughter of Edward R. and Ada Martin Munn.

She had been the secretary at the Boardman United Methodist Church for 13 years.

Anna was a member of Questors of the Federated Women’s Club, the Boardman Historical Society, the AARP and the Boardman United Methodist Church and its Mary Circle group.

She was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during World War II.

Her husband, Edward R. Taylor, whom she married March 6, 1948, died May 23, 1989.

Surviving her are her sons, Raymond Taylor of Dayton, Nevada and George Taylor of Youngstown, OH; brothers, George (Judy) Munn of Hockessin, Delaware and James (Faith) Munn of Austintown, Ohio; a sister, Mary (Robert) Breaux of Sunnyvale, Calif.; and also two grandchildren.

Preceding her in death besides her husband and parents, are a brother, William Munn and a sister, Dorothy O’Brien.

Services will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. at the Davis-Becker Funeral Home in Boardman
Friends may call Monday from 10 to 10:45 a.m. at the funeral home.

The family requests that material tributes take the form of contributions to the Boardman United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, 6809 Market St., Boardman, OH 44512 or Copeland Oaks Foundation, 800 15 St., Sebring, OH 44672.

I know of another MUNN that arrived in Australia in the early 1800's - Daniel Marquis MUNN from Bute, Scotland where he married Janet McLaurin which is in my line. They later migrated to New Zealand. Happy to share any information that might help you.

I know about two Munns who were transported to somewhere (probably Australia) in the 1820's. Both were from Worcestershire in England. One was called John.

Army Prisoner Release that he May go Home to Die
Frank J. Munn, a general prisoner at Fort Crook, has been released from prison that he may go home to die. Although his term has not yet expired, his sister has arrived to take him away, and the post surgeon recommended the release, which has been granted. He was convicted for fraudulent enlistment in company K, Twenty-second infantry. He had already been dishonorably discharged from company D of the Twenty-third infantry, and from battery D of the First Artillery, where he had enlisted under the name of Francis MacMunn. So in January he was sentenced to a third dishonorable discharge, forfeiture of pay and allowances due, and six months' imprisonment. But a terrible attack of pneumonia about that time left him with badly broken health.

My father was Archibald MacNeill, mother Jessie MacNeill, who married a man by the name of Pringle, Jessie had a sister Sarah, and a cousin, or neice Margaret. I think my father was born on Barra, mother, perhaps Stornoway. Perhaps my father had a sister Margaret (Peggy) do not have dates of birth only my father's date of death. Trying hard to find any information I can. Father married my mother Glasgow, Scotland, he was a ship steward on the Queen Mary.

I helped your grandfather, long, long ago. I wish he had had the forethought to document his findings. On many occasions I had lunch with both of your grandparents. I am no so sure that he has "proven" the Alexander McAlpine Munn link and I feel it needs further inquiry.

Hi, My name is Tracey, as far as I have been told all Munn's in Australia are related due to only one Munn coming to Australia. The only other information I have is that at some point my grandparents John Munn and his wife Harriet lived in Inverell NSW and my father Warren Munn was born or lived in Seymour. Don't know if anyone can shed any light, I would certainly be grateful seeing as this family seems to be a mystery.

I know we connected 10 years ago and I am still trying to prove the Abner -Jesse link. I used to have data that said an aunt died in VT but left only to the daughters of Abner. I don't remember the details, not even if it was Abner's sister of Sarah's sister. Do you have that info? If so pleaae contact me thru this or my email is nlromer@aol.com. I moved to Hawaii in 2002 and can't find all of my data. My wood filing cabinet broke as they loaded the truck so perhaps it flew away in NJ.

Hi there

I am a descendent of Augustus George Kingston Munn's half sister, Sophie (She was my grandma) and I have only recently found out about Augustus's existence. I know he was in the Navy and he signed my grandma's autograph in 1905 but I have been unable to find what happened to him in later life. I believe he married in 1904 but have not as yet sent for the certificate. Would be glad to share any info about him if you have any.

I came across your post and was interested to contact you as it seems you are the brother of my late step grandfather who lived in as an artist in Entrecasteaux castle, France.

If you are Harriton McGarvie-Munn then I am your brother's son, Iain Lachlan. We only met briefly in London (20 Stanhope Row) in the mid 60's and I remember Katie visiting us in the Auvergne, central of France around 1970.

Your family definitely have the spirit of adventure (it's unlikely to have stemmed from the McGarvie side - peasants...). I was delighted to see in the census that Margaret Munn (your aunt) was a photographer in 1901 - the social inferiority of women be damned.

I've sent Iain my tree where is joins the Munn's and copies of some records if you are interested in these. Let me know if there is anything else you need.

Many thanks for the information. I am Hugh's second son,Harriton. I was born in 1922 in India where my father was chief engineer for Tata's. My elder brother,Iain, died some years ago in France. I have three children and two grandchildren. My two uncles, Robert and Lachlan, died childless, Robert in Shanghai, and Lachlan in Hong Kong, both were engineer's.

Robert Munn (deep sea pilot, merchant seaman) died on 26 April 1916 (aged 77) at 3 Tarbet Street, Gourock. His wife margaret died on 8 June 1924, also at Tarbet Street.

Robert's marriage to Margaret was his second. His first wife was Isabel Duncan who he married on 15 July 1962, Kingarth, Bute.

Robert's parents were Robert Munn (tugboat master & merchant seaman) and Helen (Ellen) Cunningham who married on 24 March 1835, Rothesay, Bute.

Which of Robert's children are you descended from?

Robert Munn, (deep sea pilot, b. 1841, m.Margaret McGarvie 1869, of Greenock) is my Grandfather. I do not have the date of his death. Does 8 June 1924 refer to his death, or that of my Grandmother, Margaret?

Hello...we talked years ago trying to connect my Patrick Munn in Philadelphia with your Munns in CA. I had my father's DNA done and his results are on ysearch.org I found out my Patrick Cresson Munn's father's name was James Munn. He was born in Ireland in 1764, dying in Philly in 1844. I also found a reference in Philly political records where Patrick and James say they came from Londonderry. If your husband has done his DNA, perhaps we can see if there truly is a link. About 3 summers ago I located the grave Dr. David Crawford Munn outside of Portsmouth across the river in Kentucky( the title Dr. is marked on the grave) but as a young boy and mind you that my grandfather died in 1968 at age 72...been a while but he told me his father D. Claude Munn went through medical school like his father(my grandfather Harlan's grandfather) Dr. David Crawford Munn. However David Claude ended up with consumption (TB) and could not practice medicine so worked as an apprentice for a printer. He too died early in life(early 40's)like his father Dr. David Crawford Munn.

Unfortunately I have no more information than I have already given. I have searched for her spelling the two names as one word, tried various spellings of Jennie and Ree, such as Ginnie Rea or Rhea,and used only the last name with no luck. The only reason I'm sure this woman even existed is because obviously my mother is here and so are my brother, sister, and I,etc. I appreciate any assistance you may be able to offer. I was told that Hardy could have been her last name at the time of her death. I also cannot locate any marriage licenses!

Unfortunately I do not have her date of birth. I only know that she was born in Wilmington or Bladen County, NC in approximately 1923, she was 19 in 1942 and that she was murdered in one of the boroughs of New York, possibly the Bronx in approximately 1968 or 1969.

This is my family too. I did not know that David had become a Dr. Where did you find that? I decend through his line.
If you Google Capt. James Munn genealogy , there is a lot of information. I also did not know that Capt. James Munn raised a girl named Sarah.
