Anne Marie Stephen  (View posts) Posted: 7 Jan 2000 5:13AM GMT
Anne Murray and her husband named either Neil John or Edmund came from Co Antrim via Glasgow to America around 1910. Anne died in an automobile accident on July 26 in 1926 or 1927. If this is familiar, please contact me

My great grandmother was Elizabeth Jane Murray. She came to Boston 1870 from Cushendahl. Her parents were Aenos Murray and Margaret MacWilliams. I believe her siblings were James, Henry, Daniel and Mary. I know she had relatives inSomerville Mass but I do not have much more.

Please send more information. I don't think we are the same Murrays but I will be in Cushendall this year and I will be phoning cousins before then. I'll find out what I can. There are several families Murray but mine are from the next glen Glenariff. Aeneas is still a name in the glen so other people I know are possibly connected to you.
Thank you for writing. This is a joy for me

Thank you for your prompt reply Anne Marie. Ialso am hoping to get a couple of days in Northern Ireland at the end of APril. Aenos Murray my great great grandfather had Elizabeth who came to Boston. She supposedly had a brother Henry who stayed in Ireland but went down in a ship off the coast and a brother James who came to US in early days of Civil War (I have nothing on this. ?of a brother Daniel. Aenos' parents were Donald Murray and Elizabeth Young (circa b.1800) Aenos' wife was Margaret MacWilliams whose parents were Lancas MacWilliams and Margaret Henry. Do you know of good places (BBs) to stay in Cushendahl? Thanks

All the BBs in Cushendall are good. My husband and I stayed in The Meadows which is along the coast road just below the face of Lurig. It was lovely and welcoming but I haven't heard anything bad about any of the BBs. Simply type in 'glens of Antrim' on your search engine and you will get the relevant pages of www.ireland-holidays.net
All the accomodation is listed and many have e-mail. If you want to be closer to the centre of the village, pick one with a lower number address on Coast Road.
Where do you live? I'm in Edinburgh
I'm getting homesick thinking about a few days in the Glens.
Best wishes

Anne Marie

Surnames: Murray, McLaughlin
I have Murray ancestors from Cushendahl...Ann Elizabeth Murray was born to Patrick & Martha Murray in 1845 or so. She immigrated to Somerville, Massachusetts in 1871 (I think) with her brother Patrick. She married William John McLaughlin in Somerville. Let me know if any of this sounds familiar.

My great grandmother Elizabeth Jane Murray also came to Somerville Mass. around 1870. She married James Connelly. Other Murray cousins in Somerville in the early 1900's...my grandfather had a cousin Patrick who was in his wedding in 1915..There was also a cousin Edward Murray. There was a cousin Mary Gertrude Murray.
Back in Cushendahl I found that 2 Patrick Murrays (Senior and Junior) leased land in the same township (Falmacrilly) as my ancestor Aenas Murray. (Elizabeth's father). This was in 1862. We are probably researching the same family. Cushendahl is quite small. I have not heard of McLauglin/Murray. Supposedly a McNeil in Somerville. Hope you have more.
Karen

Here is the information I have thus far...unfortunately, it is limited to U.S. research. Ann Elizabeth Murray was born around 1845 in Cushendahl to a Patrick and Martha Murray (according to her marriage record). She immigrated on June 9th, 1868 with her brother Patrick H. Murray on the USS Delaware from Liverpool to Boston. Patrick Murray was born in 1850. Patrick married a Mary E. ???? and they had many children including Nellie, Henry P., John, Ann Elizabeth, Margaret, William, Frank A., Edward and Thomas. Most of the family remained in Somerville until 1930 (Patrick died between 1920 and 1930) and lived on Gilman Street (according to the census). Ann Elizabeth married William John McLaughlin of Ballymena, Ireland. Ann died in 1896 and is buried in Holy Cross Cemetery in Malden, Mass with her husband in the McLaughlin family plot. That's all of the information I have right now...I am SURE our families are connected somehow. Hopefully, we can figure it out.

All the best,

Bunny Proof
