Seeking information on the parents, siblings and descendents of Sarah Murtagh born in 1856 in Multyfarmham, Westmeath in Ireland, and who married a James Cullen (1857-1919). Sarah parents may have been William Murtagh and Bridget Dordan. Possible thet Sarah may have been married in Argentina in 1882. Also possible that this was Sarah Murtagh second marriage, possible first marriage to a Andrew Quinn. James (or his parents) had a farm in Ranaghan, between Castlepollard and Collinstown in Westmeath. James and Sarah had 11 children all born around Collinstown. Any information no matter how small would be much appreciated.
Many thanks

John P. Murtagh b abt 1861 Ireland immigrated to PA

John P. Murtagh b abt 1861 in Ireland, immigrated to PA and married Mary Garrison or Garison or very similar (handwriting is hard to read) abt 1886. They had 3 children that I know of: John Jr., Ellen and my great grandmother, Catherine Veronica b. 23 March 1894 in Pennsylvania. At some point they moved to or near New York. Catherine married Robert Edward Cronin 27 Nov 1912 in New York. That is all I have. I do find a John and Mary with a daughter Mary in Essex, New Jersey in 1920. I do not know if this is them.

Hello, I hope someone out there can help me. I am looking for a William Murtagh from Westmeath b. 1863 and married to Bridget Ryan b 1880. They lived in (I believe) Lisnacask, BallyNacargy, Ireland about 1911 and had 11 or 12 children. My grandmother Mary C. Murtagh b. Dec 1904 left to America at about 18 years of age. Can you help with finding more about Mary and her parents?

Thanks
Dan McLaughlin

His wife Bridget Mullee Murtaugh had 4 children then she died and the children were sent to the USA with people named Lavin/Lavan. I have no idea what happened to John after her death and why he sent his children to the States.

Hi, First of all, let me apologize.......I really don't quite understand how these postings work (I am not very technical)
In any case, my email address is as follows: illawarra@shaw.ca
Here are the details that I know as they relate to my Grandfather and his siblings:
My understanding is that they lived in/at Aghamore and/or Woodfield, Kilkelly (Co Mayo)
Mary Murtagh b. about 1852....she was 'dumb' but trained as a dressmaker
Thomas Murtagh b. 1866....married a woman Kate (or Catherine) and they lived at Shammarbaun; in 1901,they had a child, Kate. The aunt, Mary who was 'dumb'(not deaf) lived with them.
Michael b. 1867....moved to England, married there and had 12 children. He died in January 1939 while visiting his brother or sister in Ireland.
Annie Murtagh b.?? married a man named John Snee. They never had any children, but were married around 1858
Bridget, married a man named Loftus, had 2 sons, (Michael and Patrick?)
Kate, married a man named Scott (or perhaps he was as Scot) they had two daughters who trained as nurses....
John; went to America, had a son and a daughter
Patrick.....he might have actually been Bridget's son, but was raised as her brother.....
This very sketchy, but perhaps it may have some connections to anyone.........My father used to say that the family home in Woodfield,Kilkelly was one of the first to have slate roof............
Please let me know if any of this is relevant to you......
Thanks so much
Marie
Hello Sean,
I am researching my greatgrandfather Thomas Murtha and found a record of his passport application from 1924. He solemnly swears that he was born on January 28, 1866 in County Westmeath, Ireland and that his father was Owen Murtha. He immigrated to the U.S. in 1881 and lived his life in New York City. He married my greatgrandmother, Catherine Bacon, born in Whitehall, Castlepollard, County Westmeath. She also immigrated to the U.S. through Boston around 1880. I heard through relatives that they met and married in the U.S. I have an uncle and cousin William Murtha. I would be interested in the names you have of Owen and Bridget's other children to see if they match our family names. Thank you.
Ellen Conlon

I have an ancestor named Daniel Murtaugh that came from Mayo, Ireland around 1881. Was prabably born around 1867. He worked a a Police Officer in Chicago and died in 1911. I wonder if he changed his name to Murtaugh after coming to America. Let me know if you think this might be a brother to your ancester.
Thanks,

Hello,

I'm looking for any info on the Murtagh family of Montreal, originally from Ireland. Sometimes spelled Murtha or Murthe.

Andrew Murtagh and wife Ann nee Doyle were definitely in Montreal by 1855. Date of arrival and exact origin unknown.

Both died Montreal, he died 1890, she died 1876. Children included Eliza, George, Thomas, Michael and Ellen.

Any leads would be very much appreciated.

Dear Julianne,
Sorry not to answer you sooner. Well all I know is that my mother maiden name was Murtagh and her father was a Thomas Murtagh, who was supposed to have drowned three mounths before Mum was born. So mum was born June 1918 and her mother died Feb 9th 1921. So what infomation I have is very sketchy, Have found out about a family who lived in Burnley Lancashire England (Mum said her father was English and her Mother Irish)If this is the same Thomas he had 5
siblings Agnes 2yrs, Annie 8yrd, Hugh 16yrs, Joseph 10yrs, Margaret 26yrs, Thomas 20yrs, that was the 1891 English Census. I think Thomas left Bridget and emigrated because we can't find any death on a Thomas. So if your Thomas is one of the same it would be closure on what happen to Thomas. If you dont hear from me for a while my mum is not well and I am down with her a lot she will be 91 in June.

HOPE ALL THIS WAS A LITTLE HELP TO YOU

Rita

My grandmother was married to Michael Quigley from Mountbellew, Galway Ireland. My mother has 4 brothers, Thomas, Martin, Edward and Raymond. As a child I remeber visiting Uncle Jim Murtagh in Flatbush Brooklyn and going to many weddings in his house.
I also remeber quite well my Aunt Katherine O'Keefe and was in contact with her daughter Lucy O'Keefe Westgate until she passed away 2 years ago.
My mother and I would be hapy to share information about our side of the Murtagh family.
