Her music is lovely! I know you posted a few years ago, but I thought I would write anyways!

Ruby McCormick

Re: Origin of the name Moscheroush

The German spelling is MOSCHEROSCH. I have a number of MOSCHEROSCH from Sindelfingen, Wuerttemberg, Germany who emigrated to USA, mostly Chicago area.
This line was researched back to about 1590 to Bischweiler, Alsace (now Bischwiller, Bas-Rhin, France). There is a theory that the name is of Spanish origin from the town of Museros near Valencia. Mushrush, Masheris and maybe Majerus are anglized variants of the name.
A German researcher is currently looking for descendants of the Sindelfingen MOSCHEROSCH, also Julius SCHMIDT who married Minna MOSCHEROSCH,they lived in Chicago.

William Lincoln Mushrush

Ok I have a question. Who was the father of William Lincoln Mushrush? Obviously it wasn't Andrew since he died in 1855. I've seen it said that Christena, widow of Andrew was Lincoln's mother. Is there any evidence of this? When Lincoln was born, Christena would have been 49 years old. Seems quite unlikely that at the age of 49, she would have given birth.

Was Lincoln her grandson and simply raised by her? Was he an unrelated child who was raised by her and who took her surname? It would be fascinating to compare the DNA of Lincoln's descendants with known descendants of Christena's.

I would appreciate any insight that anyone might share on this issue. Thanks!

Thomas was a son of Jacob and Jane Bruce Mushrush of Jefferson Co., OH. Jacob and Jane were in Porter Co., IN in 1870 and 1880. Thomas and his brother, Mark P., were in the Civil War. Mark P died as a prisoner in SC during the War. This probably why he named his son Mark Patton Mushrush, after his brother. I am presently working on the Mushrush family in creating my word document on the descendants of Elizabeth Swickard Saltsman. Any information you could share about the descendants of this Lake Co., IN Mushrush family would be appreciated. I would do likewise. Thanks

Hi,
I am a Mushrush descendant through Lonely (b. 1805 PA), her mother Rosannah (b. 1780), and Michael Sr. (b. 1758 probably Scotland) and his wife Barbara Stone (b. Rotterdam, Holland). The Mushrushes sailed to the New World and settled in the Crawford, PA family.
Wondering if anyone has had any luck with pinpointing the Mushrushes' European origins?
Some say Michael Sr. was from Alsace-Lorraine, France, or Germany.
Thanks
Julie S.

James & Sarah (Hutchison) Mushrush of Lawrence Co.,IL, each b.1851, ch.Bert, Harley, Hattie, Glen, Chloe, Margaret, (+Caroline, Florence, Chester?)

I have an original photograph (5"x7", mounted on heavy 9"x12" heavy cardboard) of James and Sarah Mushrush and their grown children, which I would like to get back to family members. I believe this photo would have been taken between 1903-1905, based on the ages of the children in census records, and the look of them in the photo.

The names written on the back of the photo are: Front row: Margaret Mushrush Moore, Sarah Hutchison Mushrush, Herschel Stiff, James Mushrush, Chloe Mushrush Fiar Neely. Next row: Harley Mushrush, Jason Stiff, Caroline (Cal) Mushrush Stiff, Hattie Mushrush Goodman, Glenn (-), Ella Mushrush, Burt (-), Florence Mushrush Houston, Chester Houston. Third Row: Chester Mushrush.

The eldest people in the photo are seated in front: James and Sarah Hutchison Mushrush. Between them is an obvious grandson, Herschel Stiff, and on either side Margaret (who is about age 10, and obviously not yet married to -Moore), and Chloe, about age 12-13, and not yet married. The rest of those in the photo are either upper teens or 20s.

In the 1900 census for Petty Twp., Lawrence Co., IL, I found the parents James (Feb 1851), and Sarah (Sep 1851), with six children Albert (Oct 1878), Harley (Dec 1880), Harriet (Feb 1885), Glen (Feb 1889), Chloe (Nov 1890) and Margaret (Mar 1893). The 1910 census for the same place shows them, but with Albert and Harley gone - and it says Sarah had 9 children with 9 living, so there were three children not listed in the 1900 census - possibly the Caroline, Florence and Chester, shown as Mushrush last names in the photo.

Email me at margerice@prodigy.net if you are related to any of these people.

Origin of the name Moscheroush

Evidently "Moscheroush" is one of the original German spellings of the name "Mushrush". What I'd like to know is if anyone knows if the original Moscheroushs (all variant spellings) were Jewish or perhaps Jews converted to Roman Catholicism? The reason I ask is the obvious Jewish appearance of the name--Moses-Rosh.

Any help in clarifying this would be appreciated.

Stephen

Re: Origin of the name Moscheroush

It's been over 6 months now and not a single response to my query as to the origin of the name Moscheroush. No one interested in the origins of the Mushrush family name?

It is the original name that began the Mushrush families. My Moscheroush family was from Germany and one geneologist traced the family name to Spanish immigrants to Germany in the 17th century or there abouts which makes it suspiciously sound like Spanish Jews called Conversos who were forced by the Spanish Inquisition to convert to Roman Catholicism or die. Many did die and many converted and many left.

I checked with two German language professors if Moscheroush could be a German name. Not to their knowledge, they said, adding that the name looked "Jewish" to them which it probably is as it means "Moses' head" or "Head of Moses" or "Moses first" or "First of Moses" in its translation to Hebrew.

If any Mushrushes out there know anything about the original Mosherosh, Moscheroush name that began the Mushrushes, I would like to hear from you.

Stephen

I was just wondering if anyone in the Mushrush line knows anything about Mary, her husband & her children, as well as any information about Mary's parents, Peter Burns & Annie ?.
