My grandmother was Jean Muston. Her mother was Mabel Alice Ward, then Muston. Mabel's mother was Alice Stingley (sp?). Grandma Jean had told me of Alice's husband, Joseph running off and leaving Alice with many children. I have found adoption records of what I believe are her children she had to let go.
I would really like to know more about Mabel's parents. Grandma Jean also told me of an uncle or cousin Charles maybe, they called him "Chief."
Jean's father was Grover Cleveland Muston. I believe Grover's father was Henry Wyatt Muston.

He was born in Texas in 1882. He was living in Lee County, Texas in 1910.
His father, William Alexander Muston, was born in Alabama and married to Mollie Olive, also born in Alabama.
According to my mother he never talked about family.
Good Morning Carol,

I am the 'other' Carol :-) This morning I was just scanning through some queries concerning Muston lines as I've not checked them for a long time. Your comment in your response concerning the family of Vernon Muston (I believe Warren was an uncle of Dad's, but I'm not sure.) caught my eye.
In my family, we have heard the story that an uncle of my grandfather (Warren L. Muston,Sr) ran away from his family at an early age and was never heard from again. I have not been able to figure out which uncle this may have been, or
to fit William (father of A.J.) into my known line. The closest possibility I see is a Wm. S. Mustin I have listed.
This Wm. was a son of Wm. Gibson Mustin b. 1814 in KY & Mary Eliz. (Wilson). I have not really studied Andrew Jackson's line other than for a while looking for a connection to mine. Years ago, I was a telephone operator and became friends there with a Linda Muston who des. from the A.J. Muston line and we always wondered if we were kin.
Other researcher's I was in touch with concerning the A.J. Muston line were Jim & Sandy Muston -jmuston@hotmail.com- and -AmySimpson@msn.com- and maybe they have gone further with this research.
Here is a tidbit I found online (if you don't already have it)From the Coke Co., TX website --
Nearly One-Fourth of Bronte's Population Now in Services as
Civilians Aid By Buying Bonds - Coke County, TX

The San Angelo Standard Times, April 27, 1944
by Frank Burnett - Standard Times Staff

Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Muston and Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Kunkel have three sons in uniform.
Lt. Vernon Muston is a bombardier instructor at Sioux City; Pfc.
J. W. Muston is a glider mechanic at Grenada, Miss. and Pvt.Leonard M.Muston is in the Medical Corps in New Guinea.
Happy Hunting
Carol (Muston) :-)
Hi.
I am Vernon's daughter, Carol Fay M. (not Sue). I have never heard of a Rebecca, but I don't know Dad's family so she's probably out there somewhere.

Vernon's full name was Vernon Dalgus Muston. There was some controversy as to whether he was born in 1916 or 1917 as the courthouse burned down. I believe Warren was an uncle of Dad's, but I'm not sure.

I'd be interested in knowing more about Fanny.

Leonard's comment about Dad being in the Army was correct. My understanding is that he was stationed at the Airfield in Watertown SD for awhile, where he and his Texas friend, Red Johnson, met my mom, Lorraine McConnell and her friend at a dance. Both couples got married and stayed in Watertown and remained lifelong friends. He was known around town as Tex and he was an electrician/plumber.

There are seven children, James Leonard M., Vernetta Joy M. McCraw, Carl Dalgus M.(dec'd), Stanley Allen M.(dec'd), me, June Marie M. Good, and Mark Harlan Muston. Mark is the only one remaining in Watertown. There are some grandchild still there also.

Mom (Lorraine) died in September 2000. All four dead family members are buried in the same plot area in Wtn.

Dad always said he stayed in SD because you can freeze to death in Texas. I never understood what he meant until after I moved here with my family and had a 'blue norther' move in. The temperature dropped 20-30 degrees in about 5 minutes; we were outside when it happened. If you were out in the country and not dressed properly and couldn't get back timely, you may indeed freeze to death...or feel like it.

Fanny Serena McCaleb was my great grandfather's great neice.

Regarding these Mustons (your Uncle Vernon in particular) I have been having great difficulty determining his full name. My records (which may be incorrect) indicate that he had two children (Carol Sue and Rebecca Dee) born in Tavis co TX. I checked the Travis county birth records and found both of these girls but their parents are listed as Warren La Morrow Muston Jr and Gloria Sue Smith.

The information I currently have on Vernon is not "solid" and, as yet, I have not been able to verify his wife's name nor their marriage date nor proof that the above listed girls are his children.

These Mustons are only related to me in that we all have the same Johnson/Cude ancestors. For instance your grandfather Andrew Jackson "Jack" Muston is related to me only as an in-law but all of his descendants are blood-kin to me.

Banging my head on the wall,
nate

Re:Mary (MUSTON) of John MUSTON

Hi Jack,
Right now I don't find any connections for you in data I have. If you haven't already, a place to start is to check the NC census index for 1850 and 1860 for John Muston-Mustin-Musten-Musting - Every spelling variation you can think of because it got spelled several different ways). Maybe your John was still in NC for the 1860 c. and this one should have your grandmother on it.
A quick search on Mustin at usgenweb archives turned up 15 hits in NC -- you might look at http://searches.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/isearch these may or may not be your family. Look at File 4 of 8 - pg0408b.txt This one has John age 22 with wife & one dtr.(use your 'find' option to go directly to him on the c. pg.) - a possibility. You may need to go to a library where you can search the index for NC, not just one county.
I will keep your message, w/email address, in case I come across anything concerning your g.grandmother.
Stay in touch. My email address is posted here.
Happy Hunting!
Carol :-)
<+}}><
