Hi Teisha,

Are you sure it was Mutford and not Mugford. All the Mutfords in Nfld. have a common ancestor. Thomas Mutford who came to Twillingate, Nfld as an apprentice. I havre info on most of his descendants, but no Bessie Mutford.
I will do further research next summer when I'm back in Canada. Iam presently in China working on a project. Send your e-mail to me at kanstey1@hotmail.com check out www.twillingate.com

Kevin Anstey

My grandmother was the daughter of Bessie Mutford according to my Grandmother's Baptism Certificate.

My Grandmother "Beatrice St.John's" was born to Bessie Mutford Aug 3, 1917 and baptised in June 1921 at George Street Methodist Church, St.John's, NFLD.

She was sent, around age 4, to the Grenfell Mission in St. Anthony.

I am trying to trace my Grandmother's ancestry. Does anyone have any information?

Have been
searching for several years now for others
interested in the Mutford families from
Twillingate area of Newfoundland. My wife's
g-grandmother was Barbara Elizabeth Mutford,
b.cNov.1869 Crow Head, Twillingate, dau. of
Thomas Mutford, d.June 24, 1907, aged 68y.
Barbara had 3 sisters and a brother, George,
who was the father of 16 children, including
Ward Mutford, previously mentioned on this
board. Have been trying to link Thomas to
the other Mutford families in Twil. Any help
appreciated, willing to share research.
Newfoundlander now living in Ontario.
Hi John. I'm Donna Mutford. Actually Donna Roxbury. Jason Mutford is my nephew, Donald is my brother. I don't know how much Jay told you. Re: Newfoundland, my grandfather, Ward Mutford was born there, I believe, sometime around 1900. He married Ethel Lamb, who went by the name Bonnie Mutford. Very interesting woman, but not very sweet!!! I really don't know anything about my grandfather's family. He was a character, fought in the 1st World War, adored liquor, probably because of Bonnie, and didn't say much!!
Well, Ward and Bonnie moved to New York City. Their children were Donald (my father) and William. Both are deceased. My father married Alice Connors (Dearie Mutford), and had myself and my brother. Jay will be the one to carry on the line.
Feel free to write back.

I am new to this business and having great fun with it. I have a letter written by Frank after Frances died. Also have lots of pictures of Edith, Frances and the other sisters when they were young--a goodlooking group of young ladies, I might add. Would love more info.

MORE!

Edith (according to my records- admittedly faulty at times) was born on Sept 19, 1877, the daughter of Isaac Mutford and Mary Ann Roberts. She had more siblings than those you had mentioned. Her brothers Frank (my great great grandfather)and Albert John (killed in WWII, also the name of my grandfather) were the only brothers out of 8 children. Edith actually had 2 sisters in B.C., Frances in Victoria (married to Charles Newman), and Amanda (or Minnie) in Vancouver (married to Levi Young)and two sisters who went to Boston (Gertrude married to Lewis Young and Carrie married to Fred Burt), The other sister Eliza also stayed in Twillingate. The only thing I know about you (I think) is that your father is either Charlie or Claude Homer. Am I right? Anyway, I have a lot more info, if you're interested. Wow.
