The Last male Najera in my family.

Hello was looking for other Najeras that I maybe related too.

Im Andre Najera, born in 1975 in alhambra. Im related to Raul Najera (1940-1999) in Los Angeles. His Parents were Refugio (mother - died in 1988) and Alejo Najera (father - died in 1971). They moved to Los Angeles sometime in the 1900s. Supposedly they lived prior in Northern Mexico, not sure where, though I do know my grandfather had an encounter with Pancho Villa when he was in his teens.

Gloria, We probably are not directly related, My grandfather Jose Cruz Najera had 7 brothers(Manuel Jr.,Jesus,Jose Maria,Feliciano,Concepcion,Luis,Pedro) and 3 sisters(Luz,Rosalie,Mary). Their parents were Manuel & Maria de la Luz Olivas and were from Santa Rosalia de Cuevas,Chih.Mex. and came from a very big Najera Family There, Manuel Sr.'s Parents were Feliciano Najera & Maria Guadalupe Loya and am sure many of the Family migrated here to the U.S. I haven't gone back any further than Feliciano Who fathered 12 Children who I do have info on,If you would like You can email me at: crazydogg13@hotmail.com and I can send you a list of their names and birth dates. My side(Manuel Sr.) Najera family Came to Chambereno,N.M.in 1902, then to Alamogordo,N.M. a few years later ,many of the brothers went to southern California. Good Luck in Your Research!
Hi and Merry Christmas!
Hopefully this has not posted the three times I have attempted to post it (PC issues).

This is the time of year that our wish to all is the gift of true friendship, the joy of family, and a reason to laugh everyday (very important)!!

In order to ensure that you have info that can keep your family healthy, I am providing you with an article that was written about my father. This is not meant to encourage pity, but rather to educate.

Take care,
Nancy (I live in CA, my parents live in TX).

Facing down Alzheimer's: Former lawmaker has one more battle to fight by Victor R. Martinez \ El Paso Times Posted: 11/28/2011 12:00:00 AM MST
Former State Rep. Manny Najera is working to increase Alzheimer's awareness. He has been diagnosed as being in the early stages of the disease. (Victor Calzada / El Paso Times)
Manny Najera does not want a pity party.
The former two-term state representative and U.S. Customs Service district director does not have the patience or, quite frankly, the time for people to feel sorry of him.
"I don't want people to say pobrecito," Najera said. "I don't need people to look at me and say, 'Pobrecito viejito, he has Alzheimer's.' I want them to say, 'He has Alzheimer's but look at what he is doing.' "
Najera, 76, was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease, an irreversible, progressive neurological disorder, in October 2010.
But that has not stopped his drive to live life to its fullest with the grit and determination that made him successful in the private and public realms.
"Alzheimer's hasn't knocked me down," he said defiantly. "And I'm certainly not going to knock myself down; the disease will eventually do that. I don't have to help it. I'm not going to take myself down because I have the diagnosis."
Najera was recently appointed to the National Board of Directors of the Alzheimer's Association. He is also a member of the advisory committee with the Alzheimer's Early Stage Program in Chicago.
"If it’s going to take me down, I think I should do something on my behalf," he said. "Even if it takes me down so far that I don't remember what I did, other people can say the old boy tried and he was able to do something for those who were following him with the same sickness."
Susana Vargas, associate director of programs for the Alzheimer's Association in El Paso, said Najera is the perfect advocate for Alzheimer's.
"In order for us to raise awareness about the disease, it's important that people start talking about it, especially in the early stages," Vargas said. "There is still a lot of denial and stigma that comes with Alzheimer's. We want people just like Manny to come out and help the association educate the community about the disease. And for a man like Manny to come out and talk about it openly, it has opened a lot of doors for the Alzheimer's Association."
Alzheimer's disease is now the nation's sixth-leading cause of death. As baby boomers age, the number of Americans with Alzheimer's disease soar from today's 5.4 million to 16 million by 2050, according to estimates by the Alzheimer's Association.
In Texas, more than 340,000 people are living with Alzheimer's and 1.2 million are caregivers. There are no definite numbers for El Paso.
With more than three decades in federal law enforcement with the U.S. Customs Service in El Paso, Najera has been in many battles in his life.
"This fight with Alzheimer's is going to be tough because I know what it's going to do to me," he said. "But I'm not fighting for Manny Najera, because Manny Najera is 76 years of age. It takes 11 years for the FDA to pass new medicine, so by the time they approve something, Manny will be in his 80s and maybe gone.
"But Manny may have helped do some good. If we don't speak up now, we don't know what might happen in the future."
Najera has a family history of Alzheimer's. His mother had it, his grandfather had it, and his aunt had it.
"I saw what was coming my way," he said softly. "I had a feeling it was coming. I don't like that I have it. I'm not happy I have Alzheimer's, but I'm not teed off, either."
Najera said his wife was the first to notice his symptoms.
"I've always been a real easygoing guy," he said. "People used to ask my wife, 'Does he ever get mad?' That's the kind of guy I was. Then all of a sudden I started getting mad and I started losing my cool. We would be going down the freeway, for example, and some guy would pull in front of me and I would I call him some not-so-nice words and wave my hand at him and sometimes I would use my middle finger."
Changes in mood and personality are one of the many early symptoms of Alzheimer's.
Other symptoms include memory changes that disrupt daily life, challenges in planning or solving problems, and confusion with time or place.
"The most important thing is to find out if you really do have Alzheimer's," Najera said. "There are other diseases that might fall under the same (broad description), dementia, but are not Alzheimer's."
People with early diagnoses also may be helped by Trial Match, a program that matches Alzheimer's patients with a clinical trial particular to their diagnosis and location.
"We don't have anything like this in El Paso," Najera said. "I have to travel out of town to be part of a Trial Match. I'm trying to get the big donors in town, who donate to places like Austin and Houston for research, to keep their money here in El Paso and get some neurologists and do studies locally, because we have a lot of Alzheimer's patients here."
Najera views his diagnosis as just another obstacle.
"It seems as if the good Lord put another path in front of me and that's to be able to work with Susana and the other ladies at the Alzheimer's Association and to help patients with Alzheimer's," he said.
Vargas said Najera has been a godsend.
"We need more people like Manny," she said. "We need to find a cure. We don't have anything that can stop this disease. The numbers are escalating and we have a lot of promising treatments on the horizon.
"We don't have pink ribbon like breast cancer, but we've got Manny."
Victor R.
My name is Nickolas Valentino Najera. I was born in Bakersfield, CA from my mother, Dolores. My abuelo and abuelita are Sostenes and Angelina Najera. Our family originated in Texas when my great grandparents emigrated from Mexico to Dallasm, TX in the early 1900"s. I am proud of my family. We are everywhere in Texas and California from my understanding and when i ask mt mother about when she used to ask my abuelo about our origin, he would explain that his parents were indeed from a bloodline from the original province of 'Najera', Spain. The town does not exist anymore and is considered done for as far as i am concerned but it still has history. If anyone has any questions please contact me at nick_is_legend@yahoo.com. Thank you all, I love you all cause you are all my family one way or the other, and god bless our family. -Nick

Keep in mind that this last name could have other backgrounds. The moors conquered Spain for 800 years and left a legacy. If you are curious about this last name, then you should do more research, because it could have a middle eastern background. If you think all Najeras are blonde with blue eyes, think again. They could be dark skinned and still come directly from Spain and no, this last name is not from Mexico.

Hi Najera clan. My great grandfather, Manuel Najera, ended up in El Paso, Texas (Spain to Mexico to Texas). He too had blue eyes and blonde hair. Interestingly, many of us ended up with hazel or green eyes, but my sister and one of her sons has blue-grey eyes. I know we have family in New Mexico and in San Diego (google Rick Najera - Actor).

Hello Robin, I just came across this posting and hope you read it, even though the posting is from years ago. My father's family is Najera. My Dad's name is Ignacio, my Grandfather is Julian and his wife is Saturnina, they reside in Camargo Mexico. I did research on our last name and apparently it does come from Spain, a little town is named Najera. I read that when the spanish conquered Mexico they mixed with the indians and natives of Mexico. My dad's family is not light but not very dark either. And ironically enough I came out light skined with green eyes and blonde hair! So I do believe that I got some genes past down to me from my Spanish ancestors.

Hello Jennie. I hope this gets to you as it is no longer 2003! I am researching my mother's side of my family and it is moving at an awful snail's pace. If I share with you
what I know, could you help me determine if we share a
family link?
I know this:
My mother was born Yolanda Maria Najera, 1944, CA; her
brother was born James possibly 2 or 3 years later;
their father is Benjamin Najera, born 1926, Prescott,
AZ; Benjamin had a sister by the name of Clara and
another one whose name I forget; their mother was
known to us as Antonia and I believe I found info on
her as Antonie Najua [Antonie Najera] on Ancestry.com;
Antonia was most likely married to Simon Najera and he
may have been a son of Rita Pena.
If you are aware of any of these names, I'd love to
hear back from you.
Thank you in advance!
Jennifer Camille Le Pine

Hello Robin. We have a similar story. My mother's side of the family are the Najeras and they all came out with green eyes, except my mother. Her brother was blond as a child. The story is that they came over to Mexico from Spain, then Texas, then Arizona, then California. I believe the story, but there is a chance that it was told due to not wanting to admit to Mexican heritage. I have no idea why except that racial tensions and prejudices were stronger back when the story might have started. On the census for New Mexico, my great grandfather was listed as "white" and being from "Spain", so who knows...

Hi, I have actually left Ancestry for a while. I'm in college and haven't had the time to dedicate. I will search in my records for the name I believe I might have something. Sierra and even Alfaro are both in my records.
I sure am glad I was browsing or I never would have seen your post.

Robin A. Najera

Hi There: Under the Ancestry Community Tab then scroll down to the member directory and Robin's name should be in there somewhere or do a full database search for anyone searching Najera and that name will come up

Hope this helps

Christina Najera

Merry Christmas: The only information that I have is there is one relative that I know of by the name Ramona Najera and I think one is Falela???? Fidel did live in El Paso. I belive my husband was born in Canutillo, TX. I believe his age to be around 58 years old approx. My husband's mother refuses to even talk about their father due to some thing that happened when my husband was 4. Therefore it is becoming difficult to find any family related to my husband.

Christina
