Gardner was my great grandfather's uncle. His middle name was Keeler (for Patience Keeler, our ancestress). He was born 12 Jan 1821 in Edenville, Orange Co., NY. He married Adaline Arnott (b. 23 Mar 1841)16 April 1862 in Ellenville, Ulster Co., NY. They had two daughters, Frances Melissa and Sarah Olive. They married William Snyder and Sayer Fancher. The Fanchers are connected with the Nannys in a few ways. Gardner died 7 Jun 1874. Adaline died 23 Apr 1888. They are probably buried in Warwick Cemetery in the Nanny plot. My mother is there too.

Our Nannys came from Nannau near Dolgellau in Merioneth (now Gwynedd) in North Wales. William b. abt 1720 is a descendant of the original ancestor who is considered Captain John Nanney. He was a soldier in the English Civil War fighting on the King's sie against Cromwell. John was captured in Dolgellau in December 1645. He escaped and came to America where we are still tracing his movements.

The Nanneys of Nannau are the progenitors of the Nanny, Nanney, Nanne, and Nanna families in the US who came in the colonial period. Most came from Wales, but some came from England. I have been researching the family almost all of my life. The Nanneys and Nannys of VA, NC, OK, AR, and TX are mainly from a different branch. I have some of their info too and know who is researching that line.

I have not come across Gardner Nanney in my research yet. probably because he is not my direct descendant. I would be happy to research him for you though. Where is this residence located? Any information that you have would be helpful too. I look forward to hearing from you!

we currently live in a nanny residence, purchased a couple years ago. We believe it belonged to Gardner Nanny. The date it was built varies, but is probably either 1864 or 1890. We have been searching exhaustively for any information about this great family and the events surrounding the building/use of our home for quite some time. Any information you have would be of great value to us. Thank you in advance for anything you send our way!
sincerely,
J&M

Hello, John -- My grandmother was Nancy Ethel Nanny, daughter of Harry Johnson Nanny, who was the son of James Henry Nanny (son of Richard Johnson Nanny, son of Joseph Nanny, son of David Nanny and Patience Keeler, he was the son of William Nanny b ca 1720 d >1790). I have a lot of information about the Nannys and some about the Slys.

Name: William Jones Sly
Spouse: Elizabeth Fay Seely
Parents: James Clark Sly , Eliza Howell
Birth Place: Orange, Warwick, New York
Birth Date: 8 Mar 1828
Marriage Date: 18 Oct 1882
Death Date: 13 Mar 1908

Name: William Jones Sly
Spouse: Sary Jane NANNY (dau. of Reorge and Susan Nanny, George was the son of David Nanny and his second wife, Anna Whartonby)
Parents: James Clark Sly , Eliza Howell
Birth Place: Orange, Warwick, New York
Birth Date: 8 Mar 1828
Marriage Place: Amity, Orange, New York
Marriage Date: 13 Nov 1856
Death Date: 13 Mar 1908

1860: Warwick, Orange, New York
William J Sly 30
Sarah J Sly 27
Eliza E Carr 18
George Woodruff 28

1870 census Warwick Orange, New York p 73 Jul 1
Sly, William J. 42 Retired farmer NY
Sarah J. 37 KH NY

1880 Census Edenville, Orange, New York Film T9-0912 Page 346C
William J. If you have William Nanny's wife's name and their birth, marriage, and death dates; David Nanny's wife, Patience Keeler's info; and any Keeler information that would be great.

I can send info about the Nannys if you're interested. They are originally from North Wales -- Nannau is the estate and their chosen surname for that place. Nannau means "watershed". They were at Nannau (near Dolgellau in Merioneth/Gwynedd) from about 1086 AD. They descend from the royal Welsh lines, so their pedigree and papers go way back at the Library of Wales and University of North Wales library.

So, I hope you receive this message and thanks for any help!
Chris Cervenka Finney
Maryland

Born in Donie, Tx. Just wondering if we might be distant cousins. All of Dad's family is from the Freestone/Limestone County area, some relatives in the Waco area. He and Mom were never very good about keeping up with relatives. I have just recently developed an interest in building a real family tree.

I am just starting out and looking for info on the Nanny family or Rio Vista. If Amos W Nanny was the father of William Herman Nanny, then Amos is my great great grandfather. Herman Nanny is the father of my maternal grandmother, Muriel Nanny Smith. I know Amos and Herman are buried in Rio Vista, where my Gran was born and raised. It wasn't exactly a thriving metropolis when I visited back in the '70s, so I imagine anybody named Nanny in that area is related somehow. I know that Herman had a brother named Charlie.

My burning question about Herman Nanny is that my mother says he was adopted by the Nannys and that his original family name is Berry. I appreciate it if anyone can shed any light on my ancestors.

Thanks,
Kat

Hugh Nanny/ 1680's/Virginia

Does anyone have any new info on the Hugh Nanny who was supposedly "transported" into the James River area in 1689.....when he was actually already in Virginia in 1687 in ..
York Co. court records...?
He also shows up in Henrico Co., Virginia in 1701 ..as witness on a deed of George Archer...and also on a deed for Elizabeth Archer in 1701....haven't found him since the 1701...the Archer name was also in York co. in 1687..
But in 1739 my John Nanny was in court records in Prince George Co. (which was formed from Henrico co.) along with another George Archer......appreciate any input....especially if you have a later record of old Hugh Nanny....
