I know this was a long time ago, but did you ever find any info on the Narcisse surname? I'm assuming you were referring to Avaline Narcisse? She is in my family tress as well so I am interested in learning more about her. I see you have her listed as being born in Haiti? How did you learn that info? Thanks!

Hi Ron,

we may be related. This info. sounds a lot like my family. My maternal grandfather was Ulysses "Boogie" Narcisse. He had 9 sisters and 3 brothers. I only know of 3 sisters names: Ada, Antoinette, and Bertha. His brothers were: Joseph, Nathan, and Nathaniel aka "Uncle Tan"(still alive in California). My grandfather's mother was called "Latife", but her name was Harriet Narcisse. Hope this helps.

Hi, my name is Ron Brimmer, Juinior respectively. My paternal grandmother was Ada Narcisse. Also from Vacherie, LA. I am also looking for Narcisse family history, just to get a better understanding of who I am. The only Narcisse I can mention are: Ada Narcisse Brimmer, her sister, Lilian Narcisse, and two brothers, Ulysses Narcisse, unforuntatley, the other brothers name escapes me now, however, I know he goes by the nickname "Toad", and is still alive. Ulysses was known as "Boogie". All except "Toad" are deceased. Perhaps Ricky Narcisse is related to my grandmother and her siblings. My great grandmother's namse was Latife'. She was either part of full Native American. Hope we can help each other.

Hi Deborah,
Just saw your posting I realize it was posted in 2003 but thought I would give it my best shot--I find that most of the folk from PC were tight liped--Dont know what happened to them out there--but my people are from PC also-- Ferrier and Narcisse--dont know how much help we can be to one another but Pierre (Peter) Narcisse married Terese(Teres)(Theresa) On the 1930 census they lived on PC road on Ms River 5th ward--Peter was about 20 yrs older than Teres--they had 3 children--I'n told Peter worked until he was really old over 80 was working in a field and was kicked in the head by a horse. I think he may have died about 1932 but havent confirmed it that's him yet--but I do know aft his death Terese moved to New Orleans, where she died before 1950

Upon further research we found that Fanelia was born in 1856. Well after the revolutionary war. This was during the Civil War Her Father Daniel M Fay joined into the Union Army I Co. 27th Inf. Reg. Iowa 18-Aug-1862 at age 35. He re-enlisted 25-Jan-1864 Rank: Private Enlist Age 36 Union Army M Co. 1st Cav. Reg. Ia. This Fanilia would have been 5 or 6 at the time. He did die in this war as we have found a widow war pension. I was kind of hoping this was the same Fanelia as were still trying to determine who the "contest widow" Hattie L Fay is. I'm thinking he got remarried on the way to, or during the war. Scott
All I know is the story as told by my grandmother. The time period was the revolutionary war and the girl in the locket was a child. I wish I had more to go on. It is a very unusual name so there might be some connection. I remember meeting a relative at a family reunion whose name was "Fanelia" but went by "Fanny"

I am currently trying to trace Fanelia Hibbert (married name) who, (according to the 1880 cox creek , clayton, IA census) was 24 at the time making her birth date approx 1856. How old does the girl look in the photo? about what year did the soldier appear? And what state was this in? I've found plenty of Fanny's in the 1860 census but this is the only Fanelia I've heard of in that era. I haven't yet established a link between Fanelia and myself yet, but i believe she was caring for my Ggrandmother Maud Fay (her niece), at the time of the census. Scott

Arthur Narcisse of New Roads, LA 1849-1933

I am in search of the sibings and parents of Arthur Narcisse. He had a farm in Pointe Coupee Parish. He was about 16 years old when the Civil War ended. His wife Amelia Scott Narcisse out lived him. She left New Roads for New Orleans where she died in the late 1930's.

I am not sure that great grandfather Arthur was born in Pointe Coupee or Louisiana for that matter as I suspect he was a slave. He did however have a sizeable farm which he worked until his death.

if you have any idea about his family please post it.

Thanks!

Deborah

Joseph and Josephine Narcisse (Assumption Parish, Louisiana)

I'm in search of the desendant of my maternal G-G-G grandparents, Joseph (abt. 1830) and Josephine Narcisse (abt. 1834) of Assumption Parish in Southern Louisiana. Joseph and Josephine are listed on the 1870 census as having five children: Paul, Victor, Ernestine, Octavie(y), my G-G grandmother, and an unname child.

I was told that Josephine ws a full blood indian, and I believe she's listed on the 1860 census in Assumption Parish in the 9th ward, Bruely St. Vincent house number 618.

Octavie married Barnett Allen and had several children by him, which included my G grandfather Bennie and his brother Augustus Allen (Uncle Gus) and Auntie Rachel.

I believe Octavie's brother Paul married a lady by the name of Malivna, listed of the 1880 census. But, this is all I know of branch of my family tree. If you have any information on the Narcisse of Assumption Parish, I would appreciate it greatly.

I am searching for the parents and siblings of Arthur Narcisse. I believe that the Narcisses of Pointe Coupee Parish are related. The problem is to understand how they are related. At this point, I only have one relative alive who lived there and her memory is fading.

I hope that something I have here can help both of us further along on this riddle.

Sincerely,

Deborah Barabino

Narcisse Family of New Roads- Point Coupee Parish

My family is from New Roads, LA. My grandmother's name was Amanda Narcisse Joseph Landry, she had one brother whose name was Victor. Her sisters that I know were: Ophelia, Josephine, Celestine, Odeal, Virginia, one called Sal whose married name was Freeman who lived in Garyville, and one called Taunt who apparently had a reputation as mean as all get out.

The family was Catholic until the early 1900's where most became baptist and one ( Aunt Jo) founded a Pentacostal church in New Orleans.

The family records were held in a Catholic Church in New Roads until the church burned. Most of the women in gthe family were entrepreneurs and had at least two husbands (maybe that precipitated the move from catholocism to Protestanism? Anyway, after perusing the Narcisse board I realized that my Narcisse clan too were a tight lipped group. THey very rarely spoke of anything regarding New Roads and NONE returned for a visit nor were they remotely interested. I suspect they may have been sharecroppers who slipped away from the farms. They did mention some cotton picking stories.

I do hope some will recognize this group and tell me more than I can glean from the only relative left, my mom who is 89 and tight lipped too. What's up with that?

I would appreciate any help given.
Thanks!

Deborah
