That's interesting about the i and the e. Did not know that.
I have only one aunt still living of my grandfathers family, hopefull she still remembers her uncles names and whereabouts. That would be a breakthrough.

Narvaiz (with the I) is from the Bsque region in Spain. It seems the Narvaez (with the e) spelling is predominately in Mexico, so maybe the spelling was messed up during immigration to Mexico. Both my in-laws are deceased, and my Grandfather in law was dead before my husband was even born. THat is one of the reasons thefamily know so little. But the tie in to San Luis Potosino is intersting. I have tried to find them in some church records, but no success yet. And of course, in the Spanish name fashion, Narviaz could have been his Mothers name or his Father's, since the use of the mother's maiden name does not translate well in America.

Thanks for your information and posts. Roz was actually Rosa, she was my cousin and has since passed away. I have created a family tree on myheritage.com.
We are still stumped with trying to get past our grandfather and great grandfather.
In those days some families were separated by economic or political reasons and tracing is difficult.
Grandfather was Isidro Narvaiz, born 1897, his father was Reyes Narvaiz.
Of Isidro's family we know little, there was a cousin and a sister that I vaguely remember and we are trying to get a solid lead.
Best bet is going to be catholic church records.
At this time we have to start in Mercedes, Texas and work our way out.
If the trail leads to Mexico it's going to be difficult.
Thanks for sharing your information, I do believe a lot of the Narvaiz's were Narvaez, and are distantly related, as the name is not a common one.
Good luck to all, will post again if find more older leads.
The points of connection will be the brothers, uncles of Isidro, if we can get a break and find them.

I've got much more information that could be definitive on whether we're related or not.

Me- Jorge Arturo Amador Torres Espino Narvaez
My mom - Maria Natividad Liliana (Amador) Torres Narvaez
My grandmother - Aurora (Torres) Narvaez Bautista
Her dad - Juan Narvaez Gomez

So as you can tell the main difference is between the spelling of "Narvaiz" and "Narvaez". Though I don't know much on "Narvaiz" I do know that "Narvaez" comes from the Basque region of Spain. I can also tell you that Juan was born in Rio Verde, San Luis Potosi but relocated to tabasco, cunduacan where she met Etelvina Bautista and had two children named Juan Narvaez Bautista and Aurora Narvaez Bautista. Whilst pregnant with her third she was bitten by a rattle snake and thus was how she died. That's when she left both Juan jr. and Aurora with Juan's sister. Her name was Consuelo Narvaez Gomez.

My grandmother's birthday is on April 16, 1945 and she was born in cunduacan, tabasco but was taken to Rio Verde, San Luis Potosi.

Last of all my grandmother always referred to herself as Narvaez Gomez. I have also confirmed that her biological dad came back to see her when she was 8 and was then when the episode happened. There is great suspicion this man started a new family. Our case could be that the names are probably one in the same but someone probably misspelled "Narvaiz" on a birth certificate.

That is very interesting.

From what I can garner right now my grandmother is about 76 years old and was born on April 16 so your father-in law should be a tad younger. I believe my grandmother told me (she raised me) that she only saw him one last time when she was still a child but did not know it was her father. I think her Mom (really her biological Aunt) preferred that they not address the subject because from what I could understand her dad might have come back to take her back since he had established a new life (don't know where, it might have been Texas but her grandmother stated that she had all she could ever want on the drop of a hat) but her mom stood strong in the fact that a "gift" as they called it was a gift. You see her mom was barren and unable to have children so she had seen her as her only daughter. One can imagine it would have been very hard for her to let go of her daughter. There is only one picture of her mother and from the looks of it she had sharp features, had dark hair and was very short (can not tell her eye color because it was a black and white photo(going off my memory alone)). I believe her name was "Juana" or something of the sort. My grandmother might have even had the same last names "Narvaiz (Gomin or Goni or something to that effect). People in Mexico usually do that if the child's parent is dead, or unknown, or born out of wed-lock.

Her mother (An extremely hard working woman) died of cancer probably around my grandmother's 30-40's since she had around 6 children by the time she died. My grandmother stated that even though her mom had (cancer or diabetes) and had her leg amputated that she remained adamant to keep working. She had received the best medical treatment money could buy but it was still not enough to maintain her alive.

Being from the same town in San Luis Potosi state is a major red flag, and I would probably inquire further from your father in law and grandfather in law (if still alive)because I was told that my grandmothers mom had garnered an insane amount of wealth and would have things coming in from all over Mexico including gifts and Materials from the state and national capitol. See if he had any siblings or if he spent much time in Rio Verde, or Tampico.

You know that right before I almost sent this I remembered that her biological dad mentioned that he would take her to the U.S. but her mom responded to the effect of "why don't you leave her here? Why would you take her to struggle to have a normal life when she can stay here and live as a Queen? She could have all that her heart desires here". Kind of like saying "I know that would be a good opportunity I can give her things you could never give her".

Juana might have even given her some major cash to leave them alone. To give you an idea of the wealth they possessed my grandmother would always tell me that her mom would say "Only because it is a sin my daughter; Otherwise I would dress you in a dress of Gold". She was very serious too, my mother witnessed large pots filled with Gold coins. Apparently people didn't really trust banks back in the day. Even when my mother's dad died my grandmother was able to retrieve one of the many child hood treasure box filled with Mexican coins (who I don't if they where made out of real silver or not) and pay for a very extravagant funeral.

One last hint from what i can tell is that my grandmother always speaks with advanced grammar and diction and speaks in a Castillian form. I've learn that much from her as well.

Funny enough when her mother died her step-dad stole all the wealth and gradually lost it because of many many women.

Estanislobe, my Grandfather in law was born in San Luis Potosino. He eventually made it to Texas. My father in law is named Jose Maria Narvaiz. The family really knows very little. I was told that Estanislobe was 1 generation from Spain, and they always commented that he had blue eyes. He married a Maria Lopez in Texas, but that is really all I know. If you find any connection, I would really be interested, since your family is from the same town in Mexico.

What part of Mexico? My Grandmother was named Aurora Narvaiz but was born in Tampico, Tamaulipas, Mexico. She was given away as an infant because her father became widowed so she was given to his sister who had relocated to Rio Verde, San Luis Potosi. Very little is known about her father's family tree because of the nature of the situation. Nevertheless they accumulated a GREAT fortune in Rio Verde in which they owned many properties and restaurants as well as their very large ice-cream factory.

Legend tells that her father was of Spanish Ancestry, but I don't know since I rarely talk to my Grandmother now a days. Most of her children live in the States and have worked to gain her Residency here and I believe might be in the immigration catalogs of the U.S. along with the rest of the family. Her name is Aurora Torres Narvaiz and some other peculiar name with a weird spelling similar to Gomez but I can't remember now.

Please tell me if this was helpful. My name is Jorge Amador Torres (Espino Narvaiz) since that's how my family in my grandmother's side has kept track of names (Very long I know).

His father was Jose Maria Narvaiz and HIS father was Estanislobe Narvaiz, who was born in Mexico. According to the family, they immigrated from Spain maybe one generation earlier. I have some sibling names for Jose if you think these may be related to you. In America this is a fairly unusual spelling, so maybe you are related!

Hi Theresa,

How are you? I am glad to hear that you did get ahold of Robert.
I would certainly be up for communicating. I don't know very much about that side of family. I have been interested in putting together my family tree and I don't have any information.
How would you like to keep in touch? I am not so sure that posting messages is the best way to keep in contact.
I was also born in New Mexico. I moved about 13 years ago to Colorado.
Keep in touch.
Chrystal

Sostenes Narvaiz & Josef (sp?) Limon
I have reason to believe they are my missing links. I have a paper trail with one crucial document missing that will prove they are my husbands great grandparents. Does anyone have them in thier trees?
