Richard Nash

I'm looking for information regarding my great great grandfather who is said to come from County Clare. He was born around 1842-1844 and immigrated to the USA as a single man about 1855-1860. He lived in Pennsylvania, Chester County area, and had 14 children. We are all stumped as to any history before his coming to the USA. We would love to have a clue as to where he was from. He named his children John Henry, Richard Francis, Ellen, Margaret, Gertrude - if that is any clue or help. Thanks so much.

Nash, Lazarus, Murrell, Ross - Adams Co., Mississippi, Avoyelles Parish, Louisana

Lucretia Lazarus,
born approx 1816, in Adams Co. MS.,
She was daughter of William Lazarus, b.1788,S.C., and Mary Polly (Martin) Boots (1790-1850)....

Lucretia first married, Dec. 24, 1834 to Charles S. Murrell, in Adams Co. MS - they had one child, F. Murrell, b. 1836.

She married second, Sept. 29, 1838 to Jesse Nash, in Avoyelles Parish, Louisiana - they had one child, W. J. Nash, born 1844 (W.J. = William Jesse perhaps).

She married third, Feb. 16, 1848 to John Wesley Ross, in Avoyelles Parish, Louisiana - they had one son, J.W. Ross, born Sept. 1849.

John Wesley Ross, died, Dec. 13, 1849 in Avoyelles Parish, of yellow fever. He was a pilot or capt. of a River boat.

John Wesley Ross, was born in Highland County Ohio, May 20, 1809. He traveled up and down the Mississippi River piloting assorted steamboats.

John was son of St. Clair Ross and Rebecca St. Clair Eakins-Ross, (of Newtown Stewart, Tyrone Ireland.)

Lucretia was Johns third wife, as he was her third husband.

John had only two other children, both by first wife Eliza; Morgan St. Clair Ross (also a river boat captain) and Abbott Quincy Ross, (river boat captain and inventor).
Both were born, raised and lived in or around Highland County/Brown County Ohio.

While John was away piloting his steamship, his youngest son, Abbott Quincey, still too young to be on his own, lived with his grandfather St. Clair Ross, until he became of age and went off own his own and married.

I do know through family history, that the Ross's back in Ohio were aware that John had married Ms. Lucretia Nash of Red River.....but what i do not think any of the Ross's back in Ohio knew, was that John had fathered a third son, J.W. Ross, born 1848, only months before he died.

It is unknown whether John was buried in LA, or if he was taken back to Ohio.

Lucretia, i found on the 1850 Census, living back at home
with her parents, Wm Lazarus, Polly Lazarus.
Her name is listed as S. Ross, S being mistranscription of "L".
Her children are listed as:
F. Maonell (14 yrs old) (mistranscription for Murrell)
J.W. Ross (1 yr old)
W. J. Nash (6 yrs old)

I have not been able to find any other info
on Lucretia, or her Murrell, Nash, or Ross sons.

I fear as young as the boys were in 1850, buy the time the civil war started, they would have all been within enlistment age.

I would like to establish a link for this son J.W. Ross,
back to his Ross family of Ohio....cause Lord knows,
its a huge family.

It hurts my heart to think that he (or if he lived long enough) his descendants have no idea where they came from.

Any leads would be appreciated. Maybe someone can think of something i haven't already tried.

Best regards,
Laurie Ross-Sutton

http://www.livefastdaveyoung.com/genealogy/mjnash.jpg

Looking for anyone that might be able to help me link the women in this picture with my family. My great grandmother was Jessie Maud Nash, and I'm operating under the assumption that Martha Jane was a sister in law based on the age. As near as I can tell, the clipping is from 1938. Full text of the clipping is as follows:

Mrs. Martha Jane Nash, who will celebrate her 84th birthday tomorrow, is shown in the picture above with a daughter, a granddaughter, a great-granddaughter, and a great-great-granddaughter. Left to right, in that order, they are: Mrs. Martha Jane Nash, 84; Mrs. Anna Lakey, 65, of Kansas City, Mrs. Verna Lewis, 41, Mrs. Enid Ezzell , 35, and Patricia Sue Ezzell, three-and-a -half. Patricia Sue is one of Mrs. Nash's four great-great-grandchildren, all Mrs. Lakey's great-grandchildren. The picture was taken last month.

Mrs. Nash divides her time between the homes of her two daughters, Mrs. Lakey of Kansas City, and Mrs. Arzella Vanzandt, 851 Kingshighway. She is staying with Mrs. Vanzandt now, and Mrs. Lakey was to arrive last night for a few days visit and the birthday celebration tomorrow. Until she became ill five weeks ago, Mrs. Nash had been making rugs and quilts without glasses.

Mrs. Nash has four children, two sons and two daughters, all living; nine grandchildren 16 great-grandchildren, and the four grandchildren of the third generation.

Looking for some information on anyone that may be researching Samuel Jasper Nash. Here's his profile on my tree:

http://trees.ancestry.com/tree/38493400/person/19364687223

Much of the information I've gotten came from the obituary I found on findagrave. There are a ton of people that come up on Member Connect, but there's a lack of consistency and sources that makes it hard to narrow down. Many people seem to show his mother, Margaret Dodson, living quite a long time in spite of the fact that Samuel was an orphan.

Anyone have any definitive information they can share?

Hi Liz,

I knew we had quite the history in Texas. My father's side of the family has some really juicy/colorful Texas history as well...the Olive's, Snyder's and Selecman's. It's so much fun to see where/what we came from! In high school history I learned that Print Olive was one of the meanest men in the Texas cattle industry, Dudley Snyder was the first to get cattle to cross large rivers, which he did to help the confederate soldiers in Mississippi! I moved from Dallas to Santa Fe, New Mexico 18 years ago. I miss Texas, but not the weather!! My sisters and nieces still live in Dallas and Austin. I feel such a link to Kaufman, Texas though!! I would so love it if you would email any information you have about the Nash's so I can maybe piece together how we are all related! I "ran into" a person on Facebook who is a Nash who's ancestors began in Kaufman - she's in NYC! Such a small, small world! Plus I've been working on banning horse slaughter and found out that Mary Nash was doing the same thing in Kaufman against Dallas Crown Meat Co.! Must run in the blood!!

You can also email me directly at amieselecman@gmail.com

Unfortunately, I don't have a lot of information on the Nash's. My mother didn't talk much about them and my grandmother (who was married to Jack, Jr.) wouldn't talk about him! I do know that Jack's mother gave my grandmother so she could divorce him!! I think he was the black sheep of the family! One of the few things I know about him is that he blew his inheritance on booze and gambling. My mom would have to go to the saloon and retrieve him often!

Let's keep in touch! My parents are both dead and trying to figure out this family thing isn't so easy!!

Nice to meet another cousin!!

Amie Selecman

Elsa Marie Nash, known as Elsie was born in India in 1887 to her tea planter father. She became a painter in England and married my cousin Dr John Walter Pigeon in 1912. So it is a long shot that she would be the girl in the photo unless your "about 1900" could be stretched a bit. A copy of the photo anyway would be appreciated.

I'm assuming these two people are siblings maybe even twins..as their names appear on a stained glass window in a church built in 1893 and incorporated in 1897 in Henryville, PA..the dedication reads

In Memorium
Ada M Nash ~~ Jay M Nash
From Their Loving Mother

but no dates…I found a lot of Nash families in the area of both Monroe, Co, PA and Luzerne, Co, PA but cannot find any info on Ada and Jay Nash..also checked LDS and Ancestry trees..for births or deaths anywhere..its like they didn't exist which makes me wonder if they died at birth..but I would think that there would still be a record...any ideas??
thanks
George moved to Jefferson County, Alabama, as a pioneer, and in the 1830s on to Missississipi where brother Larkin already resided. George had four sons & five daughters, the latter married into Jefferson County families with numerous descendants. Sorry about that.
Mary's parents were Simeon and Susan Overlock Nash.
GOOD MORNING SUE,

What a nice surprise I had this morning in regards to your return message. You are the first contact I have had in some time. Thank you!!!!!

This is the first time I have had an answer to my searches in couple of years. We are the same line of descent from Wm and Mary. I would love to have any thing you are willing to share. I do have a picture of Abegail who married Aaron Wellman. I have the Wellman Gen. published in 1918 which may help you as well.

These families are so intertwined and in respect to myself as well. I am my own cousin. My husband told me he now knew what was wrong with me.

I have been at this research for more than 25 years and the first info was from my grandmother Goldie Wellman Burns who gave me a yellow sheet of paper in 1960 with names and dates. In 1986 I went to the LDS library and found information and I was off on the hunt.

We just moved to Ohio this past fall after 40 years in San Antonio but we always came back to NE frequently. We came here to OHIO to be close to our youngest daughter and our oldest daughter lives in AZ but decided that Ohio was a better fit.

Oh thank you so much for the reply.

My email is patience1@neo.rr.com.

When you email me I will enter my phone number

From a distant cousin.

Marilyn

My great great grandfather and grandmother were Wm and Mary Nash French. Yes they are indeed buried at the French Cemetary, another one down the road is mistakenly called the French Cemetary. (it is actually the Genthner Cemetary) I used to visit the French Cemetary alot with my parents. I lived nearby. I always wondered who these people were. I have studied them so much, I feel like I know them personally now. Abigail Jane French married Alden William Wellman. Abigail was my great grandfather's sister.(Elmus Anson French) The Wellman family is intertwined with my French family alot. Elmus married Alice May Wellman daughter of James Thwing Wellman. Elmus's brother Charles married Laura Etta Wellman, (sister to Alice) When Wm French died in 1880, his widow Mary, married James Thwing French. Laura and Alice's father. I would love to share notes with you sometime. I actually have a few pictures of some of the stones at the cemetary if you would like to see them.
'
sue

My great, great grandfather was William French. He was born 1829/1830 and died October 8, 1880. He married Mary Nash Aug. 24, 1850. I suspected that there had been a name change as I find nothing of a Wm. French before the 1860 USC of Waldoboro, Maine. The Maine name changes lists William Nash 3rd. changed to Wm. French in 1848.
I have contacted all of my cousins to see what they may have or have heard but no one seems to know. William is buried in the Eugley/French Cem. on Genthner Road on the Waldoboro/Breman line off I believe to be Ledges Road.Their daughter Abegail Jane married Aaron Wellman and their daughter Goldie Evelyn was my grandmother who married John F. Burns.I hope to go to Maine this summer and will visit the Cem.

I have not researched Mary Nash. I have the Nash family back to MA 1650. Guess it would be a good idea to add that line on as well and see where they connect to the other Nash's I have.

I will be waiting to hear from you.

Marilyn Burns Parylak

Re: William Perkins Nash III book "Eighteen Generations of ....etc"

So we are related since Sarah Perkins Nash was my great aunt.
The boys were Henry Wright Perkins, Robert Decker Perkins and George Dallas Perkins (named for his father). George was 2 when the boys were admitted to the orphange. Wright was 6 and Robert was 4.
I have been to the headquarters of the Texas Oddfellows in Corsicana and saw the ledgers where they checked in. Their mother (my great grandmother Rosa Eagle Lewis) was checked in to the Widows Home there. She was the first resident there. The boys did not see their mother often and were not allowed to live together as a family. Eventually Rosa met a David Pope and married and checked herself and boys out of the home.
David Pope worked for the railroad. I understand he was a harsh disciplinarin. Never was anything mentioned about the Perkins family and there were no pictures. The middle son Robert Decker died at 19. Haven't done any research on cause. Henry Wright married and had 4 boys and 1 girl. George Dallas was my grandfather. He married Katie Criswell of Yoakum Tx. They had two children, David Robert and George Henry. David married and had one daughter. George Henry Perkins is my father and he died in 2001.
I would love to know who has pictures of my side of the family. Wonder what happened to the family bible?
From past post I read from William Perkins the author of the book he had all kinds of documentation. I know he died so who got his research papers?
My email addy is judykaytoo@yahoo.com.
I would love to hear more from you on the family.
thanks
Judy

Yes, I am a direct relation to the Nash. Sarah Jane Perkins married Thomas Nash and their son was William Perkins Nash (a newspaper typesetter). William Perkins Nash married Emma Routh and their son was Joseph Francis Nash Sr. Joseph Francis Nash Sr. married Gladys Horton. Gladys is my great grandmother. My mother used to take me to see Gladys when I was a baby. Joseph Francis Nash Sr and Gladys Horton had three childen, Jewel Routh, Joseph Franicis Nash Jr. and William Horton. Joseph Francis Nash Jr. married Clay Virginia Stockton and had Jo Frances Nash in 1944 and John William Nash in 1946. My mother is Jo Frances Nash. Joseph Francis Nash also married Mary Louise Powitzky and had Judy Louise Nash in 1948 who is my aunt. What happened to the 3 small boys?

It is good reference book on the Nash lines. I have the book from an interlibrary book loan. I recently scanned the book into my computer with 162 pages. This is really too many pages to send by email unless by several small emails. However, if you have a library card from a public library, an interlibrary loan from the St. Louis County Library is an option that would allow you to either have a paper copy made or scan into your computer.

Hi Janice. I hope you are still active. Due to multiple divorce and geographic separation, I know very little about my extended family. However, given several birth certificates, available census records and other researchers data, it appears that my line is: Earl Nash, Thomas Lee Nash, Nicholas Nash, William Nash, William Gilliam Nash, Joseph Nash, John William Nash, John Henry Nash, and William Dirgin Nash. There is much confusion regarding Joseph Nash and earlier Nashes. I am looking for any info that will take the uncertaintity out of the equation. I have talked to several Nash researchers and they also would take and evaluate anything that you could provide. Thanks, Daniel T Nash

I'm a relative of yours. My ancestor was Amelia Rannals, sister of your ancestor Archie Rannals. I am desperately trying to find the death certificates for Archie and his sister Josephine, who were in the Grayson County census of 1920, shortly before their deaths. Do you know much about Archie? So far, I've come up empty looking for their death records. The reason I'm looking for death certificates is that they usually show the parent's names. I suspect that Archie's mother was a Hamilton, but want to verify with the death certificate. Let me know if you have any new info or ideas. Thanks!
