A Relative had a photo of "Grandma Nate," sent to Ira's children. That photo was taken in Lewistown IL, where the Nates lived. This proves the case that Amelia was the daughter of John Nate and Ellen.

Birtdate of John Nate husand of Ellen Prosser

On the RootsWeb WorldConnect site, someone has posted a birthdate and ancestry for the John Nate who married Ellen Prosser and lived (among other places) in Illinois.

http://navigation.helper.realnames.com/framer/1000/default.a...

The birthdate suggested is 22 Jul 1800. This contradicts the 1850 Illinois census, which states he is 45. It gives his father as John NEATE b: 9 May 1776 Bishops Canning, England.

Does anyone know of any data to back this up?
Does anyone have further information on John's birth year?
Does anyone have an alternative ancestry?

The poster was uncertain about the origin of this ancestry.
John's daughter Amelia is my great grandmother.

Amelia Nate

I have been looking for info on Amelia Nate, mother of
my grandfather, Jesse Nate Westbrook, born September 21, 1868.
Jesse's father was Ira Kilbourn Westbrook,
born November 05, 1838, and married July 10, 1866, probably
in Illinois. The Amelia you mention is the
right age. Can you tell me more? Amelia
died in 1870 after having three children.

More on Amelia Nate

The Amelia Nate who married Ira Westbrook is shown in the 1870 census of Washington Island WI to be 28, and born in Illinois.
The 1850 census of Fulton Co. Illinois shows the daughter of John and Ellen Nate is 8. There are no other Amelia Nates in the 1850 Illinois census. Sounds pretty good.

Amelia Nate

I have an Amelia Nate born 1842 in Cass Twp., Fulton Co. Ill. She is in the Fulton Co. 1850 census listed as 8 years old. But not listed after that, Maybe because she had married. I can check the census for
Westbrook for you. Amelia had a brother named Jesse, hence why she named a son for. Jesse is my line. I dont have her actual birth date, just the year, but it would be on record here. Can you tell more info on her. It will probably be easier to e-mail me, than going thru the message board.
