Hello Mary
Thanks for the response.
I noted in one of your other posts that you have said:

We would love to learn what townland that our Naughton line comes from. We do know that it starts with "C," but really couldn't make out anyother letters as the print faded.

Sarah Lennon (nee Naughton) is listed in the 1901 census as living at Cloonillan (Clonellan) and other spellings. She may well be perhaps a child of Thomas if not to your James. My guess is that there were other Naughtons at Cloonillan. A John Naughton is certainly listed there at that census aged 50. Cloonillan is near Drum.

I hope this helps. Good luck.

Peter

Peter, thank you for replying to my Naughton query. Since I posted that query, we found out that the "C" was the starting of County Roscommon.

James C. Norton who I directly descend from was born in Athlone, County Roscommon. We found another ob., in which the print was clear. James C. Naughton's parents were James Naughton and Anne Dolan (she was from Ballymullavill.) I do not know where the rest ot the Naughtons were born.

James C. Naughton's grandparents on his side were: Mathew and Mary Elliott .... His great grandparents on his grandfather's side were: John and Rose Naughton.

His great grandparents on his grandmother's side were: William Elliott and Margaret Kelly.

James M. Naughton's brother Thomas was baptized on 7th November 1812.

I know there were a lot of Naughtons living in County Roscommon, it would be great if your Sarah was related.

Mary

Hi Stacey,

I haven't found a John Norton 1837 married to a Catherine Quigley, in my line. I wish, I could help you. I still have a lot of blanks in my Norton line, but I am hoping to fill them eventually.

Have you posted queries and do you belong to the Norton Surname List? Posting queries has been a great aid in finding info on my ancestors and gaining new cousins has been fun.

My g grandfather was also Edward Joseph Lennon born in Drum, near Athlone 2/2/1880. His parents were Patrick and Winifred (McManus) Lennon. Any relation, do you think?

Hello
Thanks for your information. My grandfather was Edward Joseph Lennon, born in Drum 1878, died Australia, Mount Morgan 1955. However his parents were Thomas Lennon and Sarah (Naughton) and not Patrick and Winifred Lennon. Also one of my grandfather's children (he had 11) was named Winifred.
It seems that we have the same Edward Joseph Lennon, but his parents don't match. Surely there were not two Edward Joseph Lennon's born around 1878/80 in Drum? Are you sure of your G Grandfather's parents?
Regardless, I am happy to share more details with you. Perhaps we can work out if something in our information is not right. It is very likely that we are related.
Please email me on lennonpd@bigpond.net.au

Peter Joseph Lennon

My gggrandmother was a Naughton from Drum, which is what we would call a village a few miles from Athlone. I have a book called Drum and its Hinterland by the Drum Heritage Group.

They list names on gravestones which are in alphabetical order. Otherwise there is not an index. They list more ways of spelling Naughton than you do -Naghten, Natthin, Nocton, etc. and O'Naughten, etc.

I would be happy to look up someone for you,but I did not see a Matthew Naughton.

Here is another Naughton in Athlone.

My grandmother was from Athlone, Co. Roscommon. Her parents were James Fahey and Catherine Naughton (or Norton, etc)

Catherine was born about 1857, James about 1855. I dont know where for either of them. They married before 1886.

Only 2 children that I am aware of, Mary Anne (my GM) and Martin. Both emmigrated to San Francisco in the 1910's

James died tragically 1895-1901 and Catherine remarried before 1901.

Hi Mary
Not sure if I may be of any help as I am fairly new to researching.
I have found a James Elliot (a shoemaker) and Catherine nee Elliot. They had a daughter Margaret Elliot who was born in Ireland around 1810.
Maybe related to your Mary. Its been difficult trying to find out which part of Ireland they came from but will let you know if I uncover anything about Mary.
Cheers Kay (Australia)
