Looking for my 3rd gr grandpa who settled in Oak Creek, WI in about 1838/39. In the U.S. the name is Norton so I'm not sure if it was Naughton in Ireland but it's worth a try.

His wife was, allegedly, Mary McGhin or McGhins, which was on their daughter's death certificate. Hope someone out there may be a cousin or gg uncle or aunt. Thanks. Gail

Les, Fiona reminded me of this thread when she emailed me, and I've taken a look at it again. I'd have a suspicion that your Delury surname is probably a variant of the name Deloughery/Delohery/Deloquery (I could probably come up with half a dozen other variants), also a surname that is pretty heavily found in that west Clare area that Fiona and Ellen's Naughton family comes from. That area of west Clare was much closer and easier to in the early 1900s than people think, as there was (and still is) a ferry that runs between the town of Kilimer, Co. Clare and Tarbert, Co. Kerry. A lot times people from Limerick and Kerry wound up taking that ferry to Clare, and you get a lot of names crossing the counties that way.

Cindy Wood

Hi Fiona,
I will make a note of your email address..my sister in law Patricia will know something of your history but she has brothers and sisters and cousins who may know more. So I will get as much information as I can for you..it's very interesting isn't it. I have been blown away by the information I have gathered of my side of the family. Keanes, Bradley and naughtons...although I think I am right in saying my grandmother was a naughton and I don't think her family were related to yours but I could be wrong...I will keep in touch.
Take care
Regards
Ellen

Thanks for the information Ellen. My grandfather Michael grew up near Kilkee so I'm guessing David and his wife Katie lived there too. I only visited Co. Clare as a little girl so I can't remember the place so well but there are a lot of Naughtons buried in the graveyard there. If you or Patricia McGuire have anymore information it would be great to hear it, you can always email me at fionairish@eircom.net It seems from all this information that Patricia would be a distant cousin of mine if her great grandfather and my great grandfather were brothers.

Best Wishes,
Fiona

Hello again Les,
I can't say I have a Carroll in with my naughtons but I will make a note. It certainly is a tangled web, and as you say there were hundreds of people with the same name.!!!! In some instances (because they had babies so quickly) they didn't bother registering straight away.
I hope you do find them. I have been very fortunate and found two lots of long lost family. My grandmothers (naughton) brother who emigrated ton the USA. It's great when you find them.
I livi in the north east of England, I still have family and a place in co Clare and now I have folks in Florida, new York and Connecticut. So good luck les.
It's nice to talk.
Best wishes Ellen

Part 2. g'day again Ellen.
i'm not quite willing to let the thread of hope go,so the only extra info i have is that my William's father was John, who married Julia Carroll--don't know any more than that.does that mean anything to you? Changing families do you know the name of Delury -originally from Ireland--don't know where.my gd mothers father was John Delury, who was born in England, but his father Matthew, was born in Ireland--don't know where.it's a tangled web our forefathers wove.how they xpect us to find them is beyond me.
take care,& kind regards
les naughton
I have been researching the Naughton history as it relates to Honor Naughton who was born in Rusheeny in 1856. She married Thomas Kelly (b1836) Her three sisters Mary, Bridget and Barbara emigrated to New Zealand. Mary married James Kennedy at Timaru in the South Island in 1873 on the same day as Bridget married Nicholas Hearn. James and Nicholas were cousins from Co.Waterford. They later moved to the North Island. The sisters later bought out their two nieces from Galaway (Oughterard) one of whom is my husbands grandmother. I am researching the Naughton Kelly family history so if this is of any help to anyone please contact me.

We are searching for my husbands Grandfather, Edward Joseph Naughton. He was born 21 April 1894 in Morristown, NJ. His parents are Michael and Bridget Lonergan Naughton. He registered for the draft in WWII in Hartford, CT. He died 10 March 1962 in Hartford. If you have any Naughton family information, I would love to see it. We have some information on the Naughton family. Michael Naughton's family was from County Tipperary in Ireland. We went there last year so have some information from there.
Thanks,
Judy Naughton

Fiona, were you aware that in both the 1901 and the 1911 census returns, David's mother was listed as Margaret? I am poking around the Naughton name in general in this townland and would like to speak with you further about your family history. I've an acquaintance whose family is from this townland, descending from a Timothy Naughton in the 1850 time period.

Cindy Wood
cwood91262@aol.com

I have him still alive, though, in the 1920 Census in New Haven with the same sons & daughter (Genevieve which is close to Jane). If the same family then we are 2nd cousins.

Mary Holland and siblings John (my GF) and Delia were from Tullig in Co. Clare, Ireland.

Matt

Hello, Saw so many of the same first names used in your posts that I thought I would send what I have on my ancestor along in case you later make any connection to my family. I have not been able to get anywhere in Ireland but this obit is my best clue. He was here in Chicago by time of 1870 census
Both from the Chicago Tribune 12 Aug 1883
NORTON - Dennis Norton, aged 59 years 6
months died on the 11th inst. at his residence, 125 Elk Grove av. Funeral Monday, 13th inst., at 10 o'clock, to Church of the Annunciation, thence by cars to Calvary Cemetery. Booman(I have asked the Montana genealogists if a Booman every existed, they feel sure it had to be Bozeman, just a misprint) (Montana) and Portland (Oregon) papers please copy.
NORTON - Aug., 11, Denis Norton, native of County Clare, Ireland, aged 53 years. Funeral Monday by cars to Calvary Cemetery. Rochelle papers please copy.

His wife was Bridget Roach or Roche, saw it both ways on documents.

Hello,

I have begun researching my family tree. My grandfather was Micheal Naughton, married to Helen Anderson. His father was David Naughton, married to a lady named Katie or Catherine. David Naughtons father was John and his mother was Mary. He had nine brothers - James, John, Patrick, Martin, Michael, Timothy, Peter, William and Denis. They lived in Trusklieve West, Tullig, County Clare. If anyone has any information on this family line I would be very grateful for some enlightenment.

Thank you,

Fiona Naughton

Co. Mayo Naughton / Norton, Westernport, New Bedford, Ohio Jenson / Jensen Arapahoe, Denver, Colorado

Hi, I am trying to trace US descendants of the Naughton family from Portacloy, Co. Mayo, Ireland. Two different branches of the family went to USA
...................
A. Thomas Naughton was working in Westernport,Alleghany and placed an ad in the Boston Pilot on 07-21-1860 looking for his brother Michael who was working at Sc,Tunnel Hill,Pickens Dist...................

B. Michael Naughton & Mary Naughton married and lived in Portacloy, Co.Mayo, Ireland but had resided in the USA at the early part of their marriage. Three of their children went to USA in the 1900's. Bridget Agnes Naughton (b.1884-6)(known in later years as Agnes Norton)arrived in New York 01 June 1913 and immigration papers state she would be staying with her uncle Joseph Jenson, 2840 Wallnut St, Denver.

The Jensen's live at 2840 , Walnut St, Denver and appear to work at a laundry as per Ballenger & Richards City Directory of Denver in 1913. The directory has Joseph Jensen as manager and an O.C Jensen working there as laundryman. I wonder is O.C Jensen, Josephs son or it could also be his father as in 1895 O.C is classified as Domestic Laundry foreman in the city directory, but no address given.
I also found a marriage record for Joseph Jensen and Bridget Naughton who married on 27 Nov 1895 in Arapahoe County, Colorado. Is this the same Joseph Jensen does anyone know?
...................

By 1920 Agnes was living in 52 Locust St., New Bedford, Mass. when her brother Francis Naughton (b.1897) arrived in NY on 24 JUL 1920. By the time the third member of family Nora Naughton (b.1890)arrived on 25 Mar 1921 Frank had moved to 165 Clinton St, New Bedford, Mass. He had moved again by 1923 to 159 Duffy St, New Bedford.
................
I know Nora married a man called Jeremiah Donovan and had 7 sons. They were named Michael, Thomas, John, Richard, Jeremiah, Andrew and Francis. Agnes was living with Nora and Jeremiah according to the 1930 census.

We also think that some of the family ended up in Ohio but have no details.

Hoping someone recognises some of the names. Any help here would be appreciated.

We think he may have been in the Army; possibly the Munster regiment; lived in Kent in England for a time. Well a time long enough for my Dad to appear and him to disappear; trying to fill that space for my Dad as he gets into his final years as its always troubled him. Any help greatly appreciated;

Kind Regards

Sean
