Juan Navarette of JN Ranch is my great grandfather. My mother, Yolanda Purdy Navarette is the daughter of Joseph Silas Navarette who is the son of Juan Navarette, Sr. I would love more info on this branch of the family. My mother tells me that it was recently found that Juan Navarette was not born as Navarette, but was adopted by a step father. His birth surname is believed to be Garland, and they came from Louisiana.

Hello, I am Paul Vasquez the great grandson of Juan Navarette. My mother is the daughter of Thomas and Tommie Navarette. I have never been to the ranch but I have heard stories and seen pictures. My grandfather even had one of the JN and his TE branding irons in a shadow box. Pretty cool! I came across this while doing a search on the JN ranch. I was very surprised to run across this message board. If anyone could send me any old pictures or info I would appreciate it.

I remember when I was about 5 or 6 years old when we visited great grandpa Juan's ranch. It was so beautiful. I remember great grandpa putting me on a horse called, Red Sail, and walking with me around the ranch. I remember being in Texas a lot visiting Grandpa and Grandma Navarette.I am the oldest daughter of Lorine Navarette Guajardo, my name is Yolanda Guajardo Radebaugh.

martin Navarete in PR

Hello everyone. My grandfather's name was Martin Navarete, not sure if there were two "r"s in the name. This is how it was spelled in the death certificate. His son (my father) is Martin Nazario. I have no ideas as to the discrepancy of the names. Martin (senior) was married to Engracia Cruz in Naguabo PR and had many different children by several different women supposedly all within the same community. Some of them are Hilda, Tomas, Elba, Carmen, Olga, Willie, Junior, many of them came to NY and live in Manhattan. Willie, Martin and Tomas and HIlda live in PR. and they are all between 45-70 years old. Any information please would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Navarette Family in El Paso, JN Ranch

I was not getting any real response from several replies to posts in the Navarette Family threads, so I have started my own here instead.

I am the great grandson of Juan Navarette, owner of the JN Ranch in Kent, TX. I am the grandson of his son, Joseph Silas Navarette. I am the son of Yolanda Navarette Purdy.

I have been to the JN Ranch when it was a working ranch several times as a teen. I worked the roundup and participated in cutting heifers a calves for castration and branding. I have eaten off of the original chuck wagon that was used (and I belive belonged to the neighboring X Ranch) I never knew my natural great grandmother because she had passed around the time that I was born (not a confirmed fact). GGD had re-married a much younger woman, Kella. I know nothing about her family.

I have photos of GGD and the ranch itself and even some of the livestock. There is one set of color slides that Kella sent me when I was a kid. I still have those and there is one particular photo that has GGD standing next to a "new" pickup with the JN Ranch logo on the door. THe bunkhouses are in the background. I stayed in these when I visited the ranch.

My Great Grandfather is Juan Navarette and owned the JN Ranch in Kent, TX. He was married at the time to a much younger woman by the name of Kella. His first wife passed. I worked the ranch during my teens during round-up, castration and branding. The ranch is gone now, split up and sold off. My granddad was Joseph Silas and was married to Hope Perry Navarette. My mom, Yolanda Margaret Navarette is their daughter. My late dad was Walter Andrew Purdy, Sr. and passed last year.

What's even more exciting is that I have a bunch of slides that Kella sent me when I was a kid. There is one of great grandaddy standing in front of one of his pickups. THe pickup has a JN Ranch logo on the door. I think the caption was that he had just purchased it.

Let me know if any of this rings a bell.

W. Andrew Purdy, Jr

Looking for family

Hi.

I'm looking for anyone that knows anything about Pedro & Maria Navarrete. They spelled thier last name : Navarrette, Navarrete, or Navarette.

Pedro was born July 18 or 19 of 1894 and passed away May 22 or 26 1978. Pedro worked for the Rail Road. He immigrated to the states in 1914. He arrived in Ellis Island from Cadiz. We belive that he was accompanied by his brothers and sisters or possibly cousins.

His wife was Maria she was born either in 1893 or 1901 and passed away on May 8 1959. Pedro filled out Maria's death certificate and listed both her father and mother as unknown. Either her middle name or madien name started with a G or D. Her maiden name was never mentioned anywhere.

Pedro and Maria passed away and were buried in El Paso Texas. We are unsure of where they may have lived previously. From stories I believe they lived in Rocky Ford Colorado. But all my grandmother told me was she was born in Rocky Ford, no state was ever mentioned.

They had 5 children: Clara, Candelaria, Manuela, Maria Elena, and Raul. Raul passed away when he was young, a teenager I think(possibly early twenties). From what grandma said he broke his neck in a diving accident and he died when he was young.

I heard a story that Maria was a Native American living on or near a reservation with her family when she met Pedro. Her parents were against thier relationship because he was not Native. Maria left her tribe to marry Pedro, and her family was mad. They might have even disowned Maria. Maria may not have been her real name, but one that she chose to use.

I would like any info on either Pedro or Maria. We would love to find more family no matter how distant. We have tried to ask my grandmother but she has been very tight lipped on the whole topic. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

thank you
