For Those of you researching the Nay surname there is a great book out called "Genealogy of the Nay Family 1743-1949 by Earnest Omar Nay. You can read the entire book on Ancestry.com. It starts with Johann Jacob Nay from Germany.
Johann Jacob Nay 1732 to 1828
Joseph Nay 1768-1851
Elza Nay 1804-1892
Alexander Nay

This is the line I have been researching from the book. I hope this helps some of you out...

Hey Jamie,

Great to meet you! I'm very sorry about your Grandfather!! It sounds like we are related. Do you know much about the Romine family? Elizabeth's parents were James Latham and Mary Garrett Romine. Her Grandparents were Isaac and Mary (Latham) Romine and John and Jane (Cooper) Garrett. I have lots of information on the Garrett and Romine families. I'm related to both of them.

My email is Lescarp@aol.com if you'd just like to email me there.

I'm curious...do you have any photos of the older Romine family members?

Thanks, and I'll look forward to chatting with you!

Les

My Nay line coincides with the 1949 Nay Genealogy book (Ernest Omar Nay) with Jacob(1)-Samuel(2)-James(3)- Margaret(4)...

Some trees list our first Jacob b.1731, Trubach, N-S, Germany, arriving Philadelphis 1734, married Mary unknown about 1745, died 1828. Son Samuel, etc.

However this book has a photo of his tombstone reading: 1723-1828 and I see that birth date elsewhere.

Can someone clear up this date discrepancy?

NYE-NIGH-NEU Y-DNA Project at FT DNA

The Nigh/Nye Y-DNA Project needs participants. Only males have a Y-chromosome. Best MALE candidate (the older the better) to participate in this Y-DNA project, would have the surname of Nigh, Nye, Neu, or alternate spelling, with an unbroken, father to son, MALE ancestral line.

Other test kits, such as mtDNA (female lines) and the Family Finder kit (males and females) are also available for those wishing to participate in the Nye-Nigh-Neu Project.

Anyone can buy a Y-DNA kit for any male relative who would be willing to supply several inner cheek brushings (NO BLOOD). Donations of any amount are also welcomed to buy kits for those who wish to participate, but whose income is limited.

The 67 Y-DNA marker kit ($238 + nominal shipping) or the 111 Y-DNA marker kit ($339 + nominal shipping) is recommended for this project. These special prices are available when the kit is ordered through the Nye-Nigh Y-DNA Project at Family Tree DNA.

Once there are enough participants, evaluations and results from either the 67 or 111 Y-DNA marker kit should establish and/or confirm descent from German or English lines, and possibly differentiate between the descendants of different ancestral lines detailed in the Nye lineage books published by L. Bert Nye.

Nye-Nigh Y-DNA Project ordering page: http://www.familytreedna.com/group-join.aspx?Group=Nye

I am not at present an Administrator for the Nye/Nigh Project, but do administer another surname project, and will be happy to try to answer any questions. The surname project I administer has been highly successful at confirming research on the project surnames, and in some cases surprising us! DNA is the way to prove or disprove surname lineages established by research alone.

**I can be contacted directly through an e-mail link (near bottom of page) at the AMASON * AMERSON Family Website at http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~amasonamer... S.

I know this is a little late, but better late than never. There are actually nine (9) Nay families that do not appear to have a common link. You have correctly identified the two largest families; the Noeh/Nay family of Virginia and the McNee/Nay family of New Hampshire. The nine families were first identified by Dr. Ernest Omar Nay, in his book "Genealogy of the Nay Family", published in 1949. The nine families are: (1) Jacob Noeh/Nay- Virginia; (2)William Nay- Pennsylvania; (3) Samuel H. Nay- New York; (4)John Nay- New Hampshire; (5) John Nay- London, England; (6) Robert Nay- Chicago, Illinois; (7) Robert McNay- Ontario, Canada; (8) William McNee/Nay- New Hampshire; (9) Eugene V. Soloviez/Nay- Missouri (He changed his name to Nay because it was short.) I do not know if the family of John Nay in London, or the McNay family of Ontario ever migrated to the US.

Nye/Nay DNA Project July Sale and Group Site

For anyone interested in Researching the Nay/Nye Family we have started a combination Research Group and DNA site. You do not need to have taken a DNA test to join the Family Group. We are simply combining our Nay/Nye Family Research with the added Nigh/Nye DNA Group Results. This way we can all participate and learn more about our Nye Family.

The month of July is a good time to consider a DNA test because FTDNA is running a sale on 37 and 67 marker Y-DNA tests. The Sale will run thru the end of July.

If you are interested in Joining the Group or Learning more about our DNA Project Plesae feel free to contact me at:

wendyramirez2608@yahoo.com or nyedna@yahoo.com

Thank You

Wendy (Nye) Ramirez

I am curious if anyone in the Nay line has had a dna test.
I did the Y-Chromosome 46 test but as I understand that test will only tell about the paternal line.
Hello Cousin!

My Name is Harry L. Nay. I have been a Nay Family researcher for about 40 years. I was stumbling around the Internet and found this posting, concerning your Grandmother, Anna Ulrich. A quick check of my database reveals the following:

Charles Elihu Nay was born June 26, 1862, in Marion County, (West) Virginia. He was a son of Alfred Erwin Nay and Mariah Parrish. He married Anna Ulrich about 1887, probably in Marion County. My record shows Charles and Anna had a child, Lela Evelyn. She was born about 1888 in Wheeling, West Virginia. Lela married (-) Hughes at an unknown date and place. She had at least two children, Wallace and Louis. The record also shows Lela married a second time to William Williamson.

I do not have additional information concerning Lela’s children. I have however nailed down our ancestry back to the dawn of time, so to speak.

Please feel free to contact me at naygnlgy@centurytel.net.

Sincerely,

Harry L.
To all who research the Nay Families

The first thing you should know about the surname Nay, is there are two family groups with that surname in the USA. The immigrant from Germany lived in West Virginia. The Nays that you find migrating west from New Hampshire are from Ireland orginally, and their surname was McNee. About three generations from the immigrant in 1711 or soon after, some of the families changed their surname to Nay. Probably because of the surge of Potatoe Famine Irish in Ireland, which caused many English in America to hate the Irish influx. I believe that Harry's book is probably about the WVA German families. The recent book on the McNee/Nay families has been published in 2004, I think, and has many pictures, documents and stories of the families. The McNee/Nay families are still in NH and many joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and moved with the pioneers across the states into MI, MO, and Utah. E-mail me if you are interested in knowing more about the NH/UT families and I will try to connect you with those that have the book to sell. I have a CD but it would take many pages to e-mail and print, as it is about 535 pages long.

Hi,
My husband is kin to the Nay/Noh family that came over from Germany. I would love to help you. You probably know that it is best to start with what you have and work backward. What do you know about Marie Wallace? Was that her maiden name? Do you know what year she was born and what state she lived in? Do you have any information at all on Leila - like about what year she was born or what state she had lived in?
Most of my husband's family came straight from Germany to Neb. Of course, there are lots of other people in the tree and they went to many other states.

Anna Nay from Louisiana

I am researching Anna Nay Wallace, my great-grandmother. She's proving to be quite a puzzle. She came from Germany when she was two. She was born around 1872. Her parents died from some sort of flu epidemic and she was "adopted" by a french couple. She was married five or six times and lied about her age constantly. Supposedly, her real name is Johanna Von Ulrich. She had two daughters. First, Lelia Nay. Then 19 years later, Marie Wallace. Lelia had two sons, Wallace and Louis Hughes. Marie had one daughter, June Rousseau; and one son, Donald Campora. I can't find any documents on Anna Nay. Anyone out there heard of someone like this or looking for someone like this?

I can see that your post is old, so I'm taking a chance that you're still interested. My great-grandmother was Anna Nay (I don't think this is her maiden name). She came from Germany when she was two. She was born about 1872. Her parents passed away while living in Missouri from some sort of flu epidemic. She was adopted, possibly by a french couple. I'm having a hard time tracking down any information on her. She was married five or six times and lied about her age constantly. She had one daughter, Leila Nay and another one 20 years later, Marie Wallace. Marie is my grandmother on my mother's side. Just checking to see if you may have heard or know of anyone like this.
