Hi Robyn, I have spoken to my mother and aunt (Thomas Neagle's granddaughters) and my aunt cannot recall any mention of him being involved in mining. I am not sure if my Thomas William Neagle is the same as was jailed during this strike. Did you find out any more information on him? I am sorry this is six months after your enquiry but for some reason I've totally missed your post! Kind regards, Tracey

I am attempting to find an Eloyia (many nicknames) Neagles supposedly born in Ohio about 1830. She married Joseph Winterhalder, born 1827 in Rotenbach Baden Germany. Their son Henry was born in Knox County Ohio December, 1850. They traveled to California and their son Henry was located in the American River area of California in 1872 working we believe with the Railroad. Henry was later an Engineer with the railroad in Needles, California. Joseph and two brothers Charles and Theodore also located in California and we have contact with their descendents but Joseph eludes us.

Joseph Winterhalder married Eloyia Neagle about 1850 in, I believe Knox County Ohio as their son Henry was born there. Eloyia is such an unusual given name but I have not been able to locate in any Census and so forth. Joseph emmigrated from Baden to Ohio and it is reported by the son Henry that his mother was born in Ohio. Any one with information on Joseph and Eloyia would be appreciated.

Thank you, Ruth in Oregon

He painted a picture of Lydia Taylor Jones, his mother's sister, among other relatives.
Pat Peck

Do you know for sure if he came from Ireland? If so, where in Ireland? I descend from Bernard Neagle/Nagle (abt.1833 - 1887), who was from County Sligo, and came to live in Richmond, VA, sometime netween 1850 and 1853, where he married a Georgeanna Dunlevy. I don't have the info., nor have I done the Irish research myself, but I have been told by another researcher that several Neagle brothers came to America around the same time, I can't remember where they arrived, but some ended up in New England, at least two in Richmond (Bernard and Thomas), and I think I was told at least one ende up in NC (Charlotte area).

I am Jessie Neagle, researching my late husband's family.

John Neagle born abt 1825 Oolah, Tipperary, Ireland (from UK Census)
married Jane Walsh abt 1825 (Ireland)
Two children James (b Ireland abt 1853 and Mary Jane b Salford Barracks, England 8 Oct 1854. John Neagle was a private in 51st Foot according to her birth certificate.

The next mention is in the Jersey Channel Is 1861 Census, where Jane Neagle is classified as a widow. I have not been able to trace Jane or Mary Jane further.

James married Mary Jane Cory in 1873 St Helier, Jersey. They had two sons, Ernest James 1873 and William Richard John Neagle 1876. Also a daughter Lilian Maud Mary (1879-1879). Mary Jane died in 1882 and James remarried - Harriet Hine. They had two daughters, Reata Belle b 1884 and Iris. Iris and a son, Reginald were born in Victoria, Australia. James and family emigrated first to Western Australia, then to Victoria. James died in 1930. William Richard John is my late husband's grandfather.

I hope we can help each other with our family trees.

I have copy of a birth certificate for James Neagle, father Michael Neagle, mother Catherine Neagle (nee Driscoll) born ? May 1853 12 Queen Street, Poplar, England. This was sent to my husband Wes in 2001 by David Neagle in the mistaken belief that it related to Wes's ancestor, but we have since found his James Neagle was born in Ireland of different parents. If anyone would like this certificate, I am happy to send it.
Descendants of John Neagle

Greetings from Lara, Victoria, Australia. My late husband (Wesley Richard
Neagle) had Irish ancesters John Neagle, married to Jane Walsh according to son James's death certificate. We do not know their birthplaces in Ireland or their dates. James was born in Ireland in 1853 and married Mary Jane Cory in St Heliers, Jersey, Channel Is in 1872. They had two sons (Ernest and William) and one daughter Lilian (who died in early infancy).
After James's wife's early death at age 35, he remarried and moved to
Australia with his new wife and the two boys. William became my husband's grandfather.

I have not found any brothers or sisters to James, although one would imagine he had some. In the 1881 British Census there appears a group of Irish-born Neagles living in Wales with names that also occur in my husband's family, e.g. John, Richard. Does anyone know this family and is able to throw light on whether they are related to our family?
Hi Jamie
I live in Western Australia and have commenced researching my family tree and came across your message, posted in 2007. I was wondering how you got on in your investigation.
My search has reveilled that my Great Grandfather Thomas Neagle came out from Ireland (not sure of the county) in around 1850 to South Australia, where he is buried. His father was James Neagle (I think). I am finding it very difficult to verify this and go any further in my investigation. I was wondering if this has any connection with your family.
Thanks Mike

I believe she was a widow who came to Australia with three children, Michael, Patrick and Mary. There were other children, but no record of them coming to Australia. May have stayed or died in Ireland. According to BDM in South Australia, when Honorah died her deceased husband was recorded as Richard Neagle. Your GG Grandfather Thomas was already living in South Australia before Honorah came, so could have been her brother ???? I know for a fact that Thomas and Honorah must be related somehow because I remember my mother visiting the Neagles in Mt Barker. Unfortunately I have not researched any further than that.
Regards, Carmel

Carmel
Thanks for your follow up.
I am sure there is a connection here, with your gg mother coming out from County Claire the same county I believe my gg father Thomas arrived from three years earlier. Was Honorah married when she arrived in SA, if so do you have any information on the husband ie what his fathers name was etc. Also where in SA did Honorah live. Most of my family appear to have lived around the Mt Barker area.
Thanks Mike
I want to find my mother's side of the family, but I have VERY little to go on. My mom's maiden name was Ida Jean Littlefield and has five children. First child is unknown as she was taken from my mom at birth, Carl, Bernadette, Travis, and me. I don't even remember my grandma's name. I'll have to get beck with you on that. My grandma never liked my mom.:(
