I am looking for information on my great grandmother Louisa Needs. I know that her parents names are James Needs and Mary Baker. I know that her first husband is Alexander John Whittaker. Her second husband is my great grandfather Robert William Pearson.

I am not sure where in England Louisa (also went by Louie) was born. I do know that it was around 1873. We believe it was the Lancashire area.

Go to http://www.gro.gov.uk/ where you may order the b-cert on line. This does not necessarily mean that that Mary is yours.

Regards

Geoff

This is a possibility.
FreeBMD shows a birth of Mary Ann Needs, registered in the June quarter 1838 in St. Faiths, Norfolk.
The 1851 census of St. Faiths, Rackheath, Norfolk shows this family:
James Needs 34, farm labourer
Sarah 36
Mary Ann 12, Edward 11, John 8, Easter Elizabeth 6
James 5, George William 2, Amelia 9 mo.

This family does not appear on the 1861 census except for Edward, 21, who was married by then.
Hope this is of some help. Let me know if you need more info.
Cora Needs-Gene Cress, 1900's, OH/WV ????????

I have a bit of a mystery.

I recently came into possession of several old family photos from my paternal grandmother's family. Most of them are labelled on the back. The handwriting looks very similar to my grandmother's, so it could be hers or, perhaps, one of her sisters.

My grandmother was Freda Irene Needs Schoen (1908-1992). She was born and lived all of her life in Washington County, Ohio. Her parents were James Eldredge and Rena Belle Fleming Needs. James Eldredge (1874-1949) was the son of Thomas E. and Margaret L. King Needs.

The person whom I am trying to place in the family is Cora Needs. I have 5 photos of Cora; some including other people. The photos are the type which were made into post cards. The photos have the following hand-written inscriptions [with additional notes in brackets]:

1) "Cora" [Published by Nicoll's Art Store, Wheeling, W.VA.]

2) "Cora Needs and two of her cousins. Hazel Maloy"

3) "Cora and her pets Ted and Polly." [Ted is a small dog looking very much like a Jack Russel Terrier. Polly is a parrot. Freter Bros. Famous Post Cards. Made at Bridgeport, Ohio.]

4) "Aunt Mary Needs Hess and Cora Needs. House on 17th St., Wheeling, W.Va."

5) "Dad's niece. Cora and Gene Cress." [Wheeling Park. Souvenir of 1908].

I believe that "Dad" is James Eldredge Needs. He had 6 brothers: George W. (b. 1855); Charles W. (b. 1856); William M. (b. 1859); David A. (b. 1861); John S. (b. 1866); and Thomas E. (b. 1869). So far I have not found a daughter named Cora for any of them.

Does anyone know these people?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Rick Schoen
rmschoen@worldnet.att.net
