Thanks Clare. Truly appreciate you sharing photos and Family Tree. One of these days, it is my hope to get back into my study of the family. As near as I can determine there were very few who were not successful in life...which speaks volumes about our mutual heritage.
My studies concentrated on the Neighbour line almost exclusively. I did make side journeys, especially if there were points of especial interest.
Anyway, Thanks again. I really enjoyed seeing the photographs. Also recognized other names you have posted beyond those I had listed.
Best Regards,
Arthur (Art) Neighbor
Hi,

I'm descended from John Neighbour (b. 1779 d. 1868) through the female line and have the history dating back to Edmund Neighbour b.1646 so I wasn't chasing info.

Its just that through that line I inherited quite a few photos of the Neighbours including John Edward Neighbour, his wife Eliza Hughes and their 5 children and spouses, Martha Ann (John Field), Theophilus (Ellen Banks Morgan), Philip Edward (Sarah Rose Wells), Ruth Eliza (William Keene)and Letitia Eunice plus photos of Gerald and Philip Morgan Neighbour so I wondered if you were interested in seeing them.

They are posted on Ancestry.com. The photos are named 'Photo Family Tree - Staines & Landragin' and the main data is in 'Staines/Landragin Family Tree'.

Kind regards, Clare Staines

Hello Again,

I went through my paperwork stored in 2 Apple boxes and finally found some of my scratch notes regarding Philip Morgan Neighbour.

This is what I have:

Philip Morgan Neighbour b. 1894 Hatherton, d. 1982 London, MD; may have married, might be descendants....pending 1911 Census England

Father: Theophlilus Neighbour b. 1847 Wallingford, d. aft. 1901? pending research and 1911 Census
Mother: Ellen Banks Morgan b. 1851 Wolverley Worchestershire, d. aft 1901? pending research
Siblings: Gerald Morgan Neighbour b. 1877 Hatherton, Maud Neighbour b. 1876 Hatherton, Stratfordshire.....all pending further research

Theophlilus Neighbour, son of John Edward Neighbour b. 1811 Watlington and wife Elizabeth (Eliza) Hughes b. 1814 Wormley - John Edward d. 1878 Wallingford. Eliza d. ?

John Edward Neighbour son of John Neighbour bap. 1779 Lewknor, d. 1868 Headington - married 1805 to Martha Holiday b. abt. 1742, d. 1841 Henley. John and Martha had 6 known children

Father of John Neighbour (1779): James Neighbour b. abt 1742 Buckinghamshire, m. 1770 Kidlington to Elizabeth Boddington b. 1747 London - James lived in London area 1771, moved to Lewknor same year or 1782, moved to South Weston 1780/81, moved to Great Haseley aft. 1793 - Elizabeth d. 1814 buried Great Haseley - James d. 1819 Bledlow, buried Great Haseley.

James and Elizabeth had 8 children between 1770 and 1783.

James II b. 1771/72, m. ?, 2 known children; James III and Edward (gave up trying to locate in 2006). Data obtained from Will of Edward Neighbour b. 1772 Lewknor, obtained from Scotland descendant by present day Neighbour family in Canada of today...shared with me.

William Neighbour 1773 Lewknor...married had children
Edward Neighbour 1774 Lewknor...married, no children
Ann Neighbour 1777 Lewknor...married no known children
John Neighbour 1779 Lewknor...married had children
Elizabeth Neighbour 1780 Lewknor....married, no known children
Robert Neighbour 1781 South Weston.....my GGG Grandfather...married twice
Thomas Neighbour 1783 South Weston...married had children

All 8 children married. I was able to track descendants of William, Edward, John, Robert and Thomas. To my knowledge neither Ann or Elizabeth had children.

The descendants of James II (b. 1771) might still be in England of today. I cannot figure out whom is whom prior to or after 1835. There might be descendants of both James III and his brother Edward, but I simply do not know.

To my knowledge there might be descendants of William (b. 1773 d. aft. 1812, bef. 1835) in England of today, but I need to review latest Census Data when released to find out.

There are no descendants of Edward (b.1774 d. abt. 1819) as he and his wife had no children.

There are descendants of John Neighbour (b. 1779 d. 1868) in England of today, but descended from marriage of a female Neighbour, so far....and the reason I think there are, or might be male descendants bearing the surname "Neighbour" descended from John Edward Neighbour b. 1811 and James William Neighbour b. 1813.....both sons of John and Martha....all pending research of 1911 England Census and possible data already in your possession.

The descendants of Robert Neighbor (b. 1781 d. 1865) are all in the United States, as Robert, his 2nd wife, and 21 other immediate family immigrated to USA in 1854. In the USA there are two spellings used of the same heritage. Neighbour and Neighbor. From 1854 to 1885 (31 years) the surname used was "Neighbor". After 1885 two males returned to "Neighbour" with the 3rd and eldest male (my G Grandfather) continuing with "Neighbor"....There are approximately 1,800 known descendants of Robert Neighbour in the United States since 1854 to the present day. This is my true area of expertise, although I am still missing portions of the family pending release of 1940 Census.

The descendants of Thomas Neighbour (b. 1783 d. 1852) are located in Canada, Scotland and possibly Australia to the best of my knowledge. Immigration to Canada occurred in early 1900's. There are 2 surname spellings used; "Neighbour" and "Neighbours". The descendants in Scotland are a result of marriage by female Neighbour daughters of Thomas. I do not know the connection in Australia as the person wanted data from me, but provided none in return.

Hope the preceding makes sense and is of help. All data was obtained from Parish Registers, BMD Index, Birth Certificates, Marriage Certificates, Death Certificates, Wills, a book of Reminiscences written in 1921 by my G Grandfather, Letters, research of Genealogy sites, Obituaries, Cemetery Records, Census Data, Church archives, Historical Societies, News Articles e-mail communications and the like over a 10 year time frame.

A.B. Neighbor II

Hello.
Although I have not involved myself with Genealogy for a few years now, I would be interested in data regarding Phillip Morgan Neighbour, as we are related. In research of family, I was able to trace and track the Neighbour heritage from 1770 to the present day.
One branch of the family resulted in finding Philip, who seemed to be the only surviving male Neighbour in modern day England. Try as I might, I could not locate a record of marriage, and thus was placed in the position of awaiting the next CENSUS where I suspected he might have married and had offspring???
I know he was a Medical Doctor, knew he had passed in 1982 London, but unable to access obituary to find other clues.
I will dig up my data regarding my research. Philip was descended from one of my GGG Grandfathers (Robert Neighbour bap. 1781 South Weston) elder brothers...(John Neighbour bap. 1779 Lewknor).....as best I recall.
Anyway, let me get back to you within a short time period with accurate dates, names places, I have filed away.
Thanks for the contact. Hopefully there is much we can share.
Thank you So Much for all that information. I remember my Ggrandfather with much love and affection. His son, Ray died when my mother Mary Frances was 16 on Halloween night of a heart attack. My "Uncle Buddy" Oren Johnson Neighbour and grandmother Janie Marie Johnson Neighbour were out that night. I have all their dates at home but are accessable on rootsweb, I believe.

I know Ray worked in my Ggrandfather's machine shop in Spartanburg at the time of his death. He also played basketball for the first Wofford College team. He was a very handsome man as was my great grandfather, who was devoted to his wife Emma Heck Neighbour who had had a stroke after they had an argument one night. He always said to never let the sun go down on your anger. He had a beautiful rose garden and kept roses by her bedside until he died. He died in his chair with his Bible open. I was six or sevan.

He was a son of Robert Edward Neighbor b. 1872......"Neighbour" 1886 until 1945.

Thus, Ralph Webster Neighbour was a 1st cousin to Ray Webster Neighbour b. 1899.

A.B.Neighbor

Hello Dianne,
You are on the right track and the following should help: The father of Ray Webster Neighbour was Ernest Whitman Neighbour born 14 January 1874 with the surname "Neighbor" in Chicago Illinois.
Let me digress a little. The family surname in England from 1742 to 1854 (with one exception) was "Neighbour". In October of 1854 twenty three immediate family members of the Robert and Mary {Webster} Neighbour immigrated to the USA. The ships Manifest has them all listed as "Neighbours", excepting the married daughters of Robert and Mary.
They all settled in Mount Pleasant, Racine Wisconsin excepting one married daughter whose married surname was "Saw" and settled in Dane County, Wisconsin.
Ernest Whitman Neighbor had the following sisters and brothers:

Edith May Neighbor b. 4 March 1870 Chicago Illinois - d. 1955
Robert Edward Neighbor, b. 10 August 1872 Michigan - d. 1945
Ralph Webster Neighbor, b. 21 July 1906 - d. 2000
Helen Ruth Neighbor, b. 17 January 1880 - d. 1978
Walter James Neighbor, b. 6 September 1882 - d. 1883

The surname "Neighbor" was used from 1854 - 1885 by the entire family. However, after the State Census of 1885 in Parsons Kansas the family of William Webster and his wife Julia M. (Whitman) Neighbor reverted to the use of the original surname spelling of "Neighbour"....as did all their living children.
Thus in the present day there are two spellings used in the United States, but all descendants with the same line of blood relations.
This occurred as the first and only son of Robert Neighbour bap. 1781 and his second wife Mary Webster bap. 1794, both of Chinnor...named Edward George Neighbour bap. 1814 Chinnor and his wife Hannah (Wright) Neighbour bap. 1816 Harton Eng. had 9 children. The first 4 children being born in Wisbech (sometimes seen as Wisbeach) Cambridgeshire as follows:

Robert Edward Neighbour bap. 25 July 1842 - d. 1923...my G Grandfather
Mary Emma Neighbour bap. 4 May 1845 - d. 1916
William Webster Neighbour bap. 26 April 1847 - d. 1938
Hannah Ruth Neighbour bap. March 1849

In America there were five more children born with the surname "Neighbor"

Jemima (aka Jasmina) Wright Neighbor b. 1854 - d. 1910
Sarah Ellen Neighbor b. 1856 - d. aft. 1910, bef. 1920
Jane (aka Jenne) Neighbor b. 1858 - d. aft. 1920, bef 1930
George Neighbor b. 1860 - d. 1868
Horatio Ebenezer Neighbor b. 1860 - d. 1926

Edward G. Neighbour d. 1885 in Kansas having used the surname "Neighbor" from 1854 - 1885. However, his Will is under the surname "Neighbour".

After Edward's death his first son (Robert Edward Neighbour b 1842, "Neighbor" from 1854 forward, continued to use the surname "Neighbor" until his demise in 1923.

William Webster Neighbour (b. 1847) used "Neighbor" from 1854 to 1885 and then changed to "Neighbour". However, William alternated every other Census until his death by using both surname spellings from 1900 - 1930.

Horatio E. Neighbor began using the surname "Neighbour" at or around 1886 when he first married. On the 1885 Census and while either living or visiting with his brother William in Kansas, Horatio used the forename of "Charles"...why I do not know.

Put best, One son of Edward and Hannah; Robert Edward b. 1842 used the surname "Neighbor" from 1854 to 1923. William Webster b. 1847 used the surname "Neighbor" 1854 -1885 and then reverted to "Neighbour" but alternated the spellings with each Census every 10 years. Horatio Ebenezer b. 1860 used "Neighbor" 1860 - 1886 and then reverted to "Neighbour".

I do not have detailed data on Ray Webster Neighbour, other than his birth, a marriage (details not known) and possible children (details also not known). His death is recorded, as you state in 1943....cause and circumstances unknown.

There are approximately 750 plus "known" descendants of William Webster Neighbour in the United States as of 2011. Obviously there are more due to your message.

You will find William Neighbor on the 1860 Census in Wisconsin (year of birth is wrong). He married in 1869 Michigan but is on 1870 Census (State and Federal) in Chicago, Illinois as well as 1880 Census. The family moved to Kansas in 1881. They are on the Kansas 1885 State Census. 1900 and 1910 Census William is in Texas (use both surname spellings). 1920 Census William is in Ohio if I recall correctly, and by the 1930 Census he is in Pennsylvania.
William, wife and other family used to visit Ernest and Emma (Heck) Neighbour often in Spartanburg. At one point both he and Ernest were engaged in the building of a local Bridge....William as a foreman and Ernest as an Engineer.

Hope some of the preceding was helpful.

Arthur B. Neighbor II
The first type listed will be “surname,” but only the first letter of the alphabet is listed: the one you want is the letter “N” (the number appended to it is simply the number of projects that begin with that letter); click this and you will be taken to the next page;
5) at this screen, you will find “Nabors/Neighbors;” click this and you will be taken to the next page;
6) at this screen, you will see the button in the lower right corner labeled, JOIN: click this and you are done!

For privacy reasons, FTDNA will not automatically “enroll” you so you must join.

If your written records have left you with a “brick wall” DNA testing can help overcome this. The hope is that you will meet some other person (via e-mail) that will have better records than you do and in this manner you can fill in the blank spots. Your e-mail address is never given out but if you wish, you can be sent an “alert” by FTDNA, that someone has matched your DNA. It is there that you can, if you wish, contact that other person.

As the Nabors/Neighbors Family Project Administator, I hope that you join.

Respectfully,
Dan Flanagan
Austin, Texas

Hello,
Thanks for information regarding Elizabeth Neighbour Boddington. I knew she was born in London 1747 but I only had the year. I'm not sure Elizabeth Neighbour Beazley father; (James Neighbour) was born 1742, my research indicating an approximate time range of 1740 -1747. Also, my research indicates he may have passed in 1793 South Weston.
There is a James Neighbour bap. 1742 Monks Risboro, who married an Ann Hilling in 1797 in Great Haseley. This James Neighbour had never been married previously. He passed in Bledlow 1819, and is buried at Great Haseley.
The South Weston Parish record does not list a James Neighbour as being buried, but do show the birth of Robert in 1781 and Thomas in 1783.
The South Weston Probate record shows a James Neighbour listed as passing 1793 South Weston.
I'm also not clear, that Elizabeth Boddington Neighbour passed in 1814 Great Haseley. I know there was one, but have trouble convincing myself it's the correct Elizabeth Neighbour. If her age was 67 +- I'd be more convinced, but the age is not listed. It's true, one of her sons (Thomas) lived in Great Haseley at the time, but I have difficulty equating the two...especially since Elizabeth's other sons and daughters seemed to have been fairly well off, and therefore having the means to look after Elizabeth better than Thomas.
I would be most appreciative of any concrete data, source material, etc! regarding James Neighbour and Elizabeth Boddington birth locations, father, mother and siblings (marriage in Kidlington I have). Death particulars would also be appreciated,as I've remained flummoxed for years.
Do you have particulars of Joseph and Elizabeth (Neighbour) Beazleys 8 children of Icford, as I had major trouble finding data regarding the Beazleys as well.
One point of interest regarding James Neighbour birth. In 2009 I received a message indicating that James Neighbour was born in Steeple Barton. I responded, but never received a reply. Steeple Barton is south of London and might make sense. By 1770 when he married Elizabeth Boddington in Kidlington, the register indicates James was of "Lewknor".
James and Elizabeth are on the Lewknor Parish records where 5 children were born. However, there was a first child James II born abt. 1781...location unknown, probably London, Kidlington or possibly Steeple Barton...but not Lewknor.
Genuinely appreciate any light you can shed on preceding matters.
Thanks

Hi,
Elizabeth Neighbour born April 1780 Lewknor Oxon. Married Joseph Beazley (Beesley) 19/12/1804 St Peter le Bailey, Oxford. Family settled Ickford Buckinghamshire where many of the Beazleys lived and had 8 children. Joseph died 16/11/1834 Ickford leaving Elizabeth widowed. There are a number of Elizabeth Beazleys (common family name including Joseph's mother Elizabeth). Elizabeth Neighbour Beazley probable death 9 December 1834 Ickford. Brother Edward's will of 1835 leaves 100 pounds to his sister Elizabeth Beazeley of Ickford, widow, but seems likely he may not have known his sister had just died or she may be one of the later Elizabeth Beazley deaths. Parents James Neighbour 1742 - died South Weston 28 December 1819, Elizabeth Boddington born London (Southwark) 4 August 1747 (baptism St. Thomas Presbyterian) died 24 March 1814 Great Haseley Oxon. Marriage Kidlington Oxon 29/10/1770.

Fire away, and I'll help where I can. I have data about Thomas from folks in Canada. I'd prefer you contact directly via e-mail address supplied. But if you prefer this method, I will do so as well.
I have not uploaded a GEDCOM, pending other data. My concentration has focused on Neighbour and Neighbor family only, as I did not want to go to far astray.
My expertise centers on family from 1854 America to today. My other interest, and the point I hit a Brick Wall, is with regard to the family of James Neighbour prior to 1770.....which is my other main interest.
Regards,
Art

Hello Cathie,
Sorry about the late reply. I have not worked on genealogy for quite awhile. You are correct about the 8th child, and the one I was missing; James 2 of 1771. This was discovered via the Will of Edward Neighbour born in Lewknor 1774.
I have had no luck (excepting your message) regarding the family of James 1 who married Elizabeth Boddington 1770 in Kidlington. I did find, that Elizabeth was born in London 1747, but nothing further.
I'm afraid I cannot help regarding John b. 1742, as my brick wall has been James Neighbour prior to his marriage in 1770.
Note: There is one family (descendants of James) of today who claim James was born 1742 Monks Risbourgh, Buckinghamshire. In that case it's a matter of the two of us agreeing to disagree, as my research indicates the particular James they claim is another person entirely.
I can answer nearly everything from 1770 forward. There are descendants of James and Elizabeth in Canada, United States, Scotland and England presently. I'm willing to share and/or help as best I can. My direct e-mail address is abneighbor@comcast.net
PS; Our surname was changed to "Neighbor" in 1854 by Edward b. 1814 Chinnor and wife Hannah in America. It remained "Neighbor" until 1885, when two of Edwards' younger sons (William b. 1847 and Horatio b. 1860) reverted back to "Neighbour" when dward passed, while the eldest brother (my G Grandfather - Robert b. 1842) continued with "Neighbor".
In Canada the surname is "Neighbour" and "Neighbours"...descendants of Thomas Neighbour b. 1783 South Weston.
Regards,
A.B. Neighbor

Hi, just noticed your posts re Robert Neighbour 1781.
You note the mention 0f 8 children in South Weston census. I have an additional child in the family, James Neighbout born 12-1-1771 in Steeple Barton, of James N. and Elizabeth Boddington (m 29-10-1770 in Kidlington. I dont have a primary source for this. It is from a Bucks FHS tree ref BHFS R158 of the Stone Family, but thought it might be of interest to you.
My Neighbour interest is in John Neighbour b 1742 of Willian Neighbour b 1708 and nephew of Edward Neighbour chr 1707 in Saunderton, who is the grandfather of your Robert Neighbour and Thomas Neighbour from South Weston.
I have parchments concerning this Edward Neighbour and my John Neighbour and would be interested to find out more about these parts of the family tree and to share info.
Cathie Steele (Australia)

Thomas married Elizabeth ? and yes, Edward and James are two of their children, with Edward being my husband's gggrandfather.
In Canada the name is Neighbour but we have a slight twist also as some of the family has added and "s" as you will also notice in some of the UK records. My husband and his siblings have stuck with Neighbour.
Can you email me at "l.neighbour@sasktel.net" with regards to further exchange of info.
Looking forward to hearing from you again.

Hello,
I am most gratified to learn that Thomas b.1873 Southweston has living descendants. Thomas has proved most vexing for me to track after 1793.
Yes! I knew that Robert Neighbour b. 1781 Southweston had been married twice. I do not know who the first wife was, other than she was named Elizabeth, died and was buried in Bledlow in 1812 along with a daughter; Elizabeth b. 1812.
Robert's second wife was Mary Webster b. 1794 Chinnor. Both Robert and Mary along with 21 other immediate family immigrated to USA in 1854.
Both Robert and Thomas were born in Southweston, while 5 other children were born in Lewknor 1773-1780. There might be one (1) other child born in Southweston (not in parish register), as a Census of South Weston in 1789 indicates there are eight children....however, it might have been a visiting relative of some sort.
Any data you are willing to share regarding Thomas would be appreciated. The best I was able to accomplish (or suspect), is that Thmas might have married a Charlotte Horwood in 1812, and/or a possible Mary Sheppard (signs Elizabeth) in 1813 with two resulting (possibly more) children; James b. 1816 and Edward b. 1817 Great Haseley.
Regards,
Art Neighbor (surname spelling changed in America 1854...however both spellings survive in USA, as there were three sons; Robert Edward b. 1842, William Webster b. 1847 and Horatio Ebenezer b. 1860. Robert and Edward were born in England with the surname "Neighbour", while Horatio was born in USA under the surname "Neighbor". The entire family used the surname "Neighbor" from 1854 to 1885. In 1887 both William and Horatio returned to the surname of "Neighbour", while Robert retained the surname "Neighbor" until his demise in 1923. Complicated but I've tracked them all.

Re: THOMAS RATTLIDGE

You have posed an interesting question, and having hit a brick wall in mine own research, I happened to read your query, thought about it, and decided to answer with thoughts that had occurred to me.
Perhaps the mother of Thomas was indeed a Mary Wood and his father a John Nieghbour (Neighbour?), but neither accepted responsibility for the child, and he was either adopted by a family surnamed "Rattlidge" (a possible relative of either Mary or John), or assumed the surname for other reasons unknown.
Usually a child born out of wedlock (assuming that's what happened) would assume the surname of the person who took care of and/or raised the child. Since it seems that neither Mary or John reared the child, perhaps he assumed the surname assigned him by the family that did, or by an ophanage or possible other.
Since he is referenced as being born 11 November 1844, in Whitechapel, he should be on the BMD (Birth Marriage Death) Index which starts in 1837...but the nearest person I could find was a "Thomas Edward Rattlidge", born in the January, February, March Quarter of 1844 in Newport Pagnell, Buckinghamshire Northamptonshire.
In addition, one would assume he should appear on the 1851 Census being age 7 (assuming he lived) but he does not appear on any Census 1851-1901.
The above being the case, then perhaps his birth was not registered by either the mother or the father. Or, if it was, then perhaps he was registered under the surname "Wood" or "Nieghbour" (or "Neighbour") in the October, November, December Quarter of 1844.
If he did live and married (under the surname Rattlidge), that too should appear on the BMD Index, and assuming he remained in England, then he should appear on at least one Census record between 1851 and 1901...unless he immigrated elsewhere at a fairly young age, and/or the spelling of the surname (or surname itself) was changed.
Anyway, I hope that a little of the above proves helpful. However, you have posed a real conumdrum, and I wish you well in trying to resolve the problem.

Re: NEIGHBOUR, Robert b. 1781

Hello,
Let us hope that your Robert Neighbour and mine are one in the same person.
Robert was born 12/25/1781 Southweston, Oxfordshire. He married an Elizabeth ____? abt. 1809, had two children; Rebecca 1810 and Elizabeth 1812, both born in Chinnor.
Robert re-married in 1813 to a Mary Webster b. 1894 in Chinnor where they had 7 children...Edward G. 1814,
Maria 1816, Emma 1818, Mary Emma 1822, Ann Wright 1824, Selina 1826, William Webster 1832.
Edward, Maria, Ann W., and Selina all married prior to September of 1854.
As near as I can determine, Emma, Mary Emma, and William Webster Neighbour all passed in Chinnor. Emma 1820, Mary Emma prior to 1837, and William Webster after 1841, before 1851.
Robert (of 1781) passed after the 1860 Census in Mt. Pleasant Racine, Wisconsin (exact date not known). His wife Mary passed after 1854 arrival and before 1860 Census in Wisconsin (exact date not known).
Robert had 4 brothers and 2 sisters (William 1773, Edward 1774, Ann 1777, John 1779, Elizabeth 1780, and Thomas 1783).
The first five children were born in Lewknor, Oxfordshire, with Robert and Thomas born in Southweston, Oxfordshire.
I am still in process of trying to find out what happened to Robert's 4 brothers and sisters....John Neighbour and his descendants being the easiest to track, but I lose the family and descendants after 1901 pending availabilty of 1911 Census presently not available.
I have possibilties regarding the other children I am presently exploring with limited success to date.
Perhaps your Robert Neighbour and mine are one in the same, and a new avenue of research would open.
Hello Donna, I'd like to help, but I have no information regarding an "Ivy Neighbour" in our family Ancestry and Heritage.
Ivy might be a nickname. Have you tried searching for an Elvira or some other possible spelling?
Ivy might also be a middle name.
You did not mention what area, State or Country Ivy was from, nor did you provide approximate dates.
Don't give up. Contact relatives, try the LDS Website, and other resources, such as State Death Index's, Social Security Death Index, Historical Societies, etc!...
